  1. Flash! Mice aren't human. Do you avoid unchlorinated water due to ethical concerns over killing billions of bacteria?
  2. Will do my best. I have to admit I'm a beginner here...
  3. Phone is 732-747-2787 Address is pretty irrelevant as Sea Bright is a 1 road town. Headed south on Rt 36 it is on the left after the firehouse.
  4. Was buying a couple dirty water dogs from Mrs. Rooney's Sabrette stand last weekend when I noticed a new place across the street called The Shack. Figured I'd try it today for lunch and was pleasantly surprised. Given the kitchy So-Cal colorful surf style interior, and the fact that there were no other patrons inside, I admit my expectations were not exactly high. The first surprise was the obligatory basket of chips and salsa. Instead of the standard cooked salsa that could have come in a jar that most places tend to, I was treated to an entirely fresh Pico de Gallo style salsa, that if mixed with lime juice & seafood would have made a killer Ceviche (Something the owner conceded he did as a special on occasion). For $3 a side of Guacamole was also right on the mark, none of the over creamed commercial type stuff, but chunky with diced chiles and onion. The entree I had was Enchiladas Del Mar ($8.95), Corn tortillas filled with shrimp and scallops, topped with a tasty version of ranchero sauce, cojita cheese (a hard Mexican cheese similar to Parmesan, but not as salty) and sour cream. It was a nice size portion served with rice and a choice of Black or Refried beans. Lunch portions generally have 2 items, dinner 3. Talking to the owner I mentioned I was surprised given the pacific connection that they did not offer fish tacos. He proceeded to point out the appetizer Baja Tacos ($7.75)... Douh!! Battered, lightly fried fish fillets on soft corn tortillas with shredded cabbage, a special white sauce, cheese, pico de gallo and a lime wedge. This will be my next sampling! For dinner, no appetizers are over $8. Only 2 dinner entrees exceed $15. Will post the menu on my site soon.
  5. This may sound complicated, but I would suggest buying a wooden cutting board that is 15 by 20 inches, and 1 1/2 inches thick.
  6. One of the filthiest places on the planet is the human mouth. If you want to keep your foods as germ free as possible, do everything you can to avoid letting them get anywhere near a human mouth.

    Grilled Cheese

I like to use a pie iron to make my grilled cheese sandwich. It is essentially a clamshell type of device with long handles, sort of a smooth bore waffle iron. You butter bread and place it in either side of the iron, then place whatever filling you want in it, clamp it shut and place in fireplace or over stove. Here is a pic of my bro constructing a sandwich in the pie iron, in this case filling it with sliced smoked bratwurst, saurkraut, sharp cheddar and a schmear of hearty mustard: This morning I made a sandwich consisting of pan cooked Taylor Pork Roll and Chipotle Cheddar: The finished product:
  8. I never understood the concept of an Italian Hotdog having potatoes on it. Wouldn't that be an Irish hotdog? An Italian Hotdog should have marinara and mozzarella, and maybe pasta...
  9. Taylor Pork Roll.
  10. What beans said...
  11. I've been to the relocated Rivers Edge and they are still very good. For some reason though they are having a slow start for dinners, wheras lunch often entails a wait to be seated.
  12. Rosie, you gotta read my posts more thoroughly! We were there for lunch, and the bill for 2 including appetizers, 1 cup of soup (Actually more like a small bowl) and entrees was $32 before tip. Portion sizes are large. Dinner entrees apear to be the standard $16 to $20. This looks to be a nice ethnic addition to Monmouth County. Definately beats having yet another Italian or Chinese.
  13. I'm getting out of the "2 space" rule as a result of coding in HTML. Browsers ignore more than one consecutive space.

    veal spareribs

That's no problem for folks like me who follow Porco Vegetarian regimes...
  15. Went there for lunch today and everything was great. I mean everything, down to the iced tea! Started with an pierogi with mushrooms. An oversized cup of borsch served with lots of beets, cabbage veal and beef. I made the mistake of wearing light pants and a white Weebl & Bob tee shirt, which is now speckled with red spots... Entree was Golubsty, sort of a Russian stuffed cabbage filled with seasoned ground beef & rice topped with dill and sour cream, served atop a roasted tomato and sour cream sauce. Home made pastries looked excellent but we did not have time to try them.
  16. Interesting when you consider most Europeans drink wine in 6 oz. tumblers worth less than a buck. If the glasses make such a difference how do you account for the fact that everyones mouth is shaped differently?
  17. Then there was the time we were eating at a small luncheonette when a couple of 20 something guys walk in with a troupe of 5 kids ranging from like 18 months to 6 years. They seat them at a table and order them drinks. The guys then proceed to the other side of the dining room by the counter where they light up a couple smokes and watch a football game on TV, leaving the little tykes, armed with their drinks, all to themselves. Within 3 minutes all the tables within hurling distance of the unattended crumb crushers had bolted for the parking lot...
  18. Yes, it looks to be BYO. It also features a coffee/Espresso and pastry bar, with European style pastries made from scratch daily.
  19. Cafe Everest recently opened on Broad St. in Red Bank. Have not been yet, but coworkers and I have been drooling over the menu. Expect to sample it soon.
  20. Christophers in Colts neck (Across from Delicious Orchards on Rt. 34) is an excellent American BYO (Great duck). Bella Luna in Belmar is also very good.
  21. Yes, read the first sentence of the first post in this thread...
  22. Buona Sera, Rivers Edge, Sogno, Restaurant Nicholas, Gaetanos, Rays Seafood (Little Silver), Navesink Fishery (Atlantic Highlands), Il Picolo Forno (Long Branch)...

    Fried Turkey

Go for aluminum, stainless steel is not a very good conductor of heat.
