    Honolulu

The next annual APA s being held in Hawaii - Imagine 20,000+ (maybe it will be 100,000+) headshrinks decending on HNL - Every table might be taken - Should I be thinking of reserving tables now ? and If so which restaurants would you recommend ?
  3. Bhasin: It ain't too late, it's thanksgiving week, it should be a slow week of business in US. Plus the airlines have huge sale going on. So let's do family style ordering. It's normally 14 day advance booking - I'll be game if it is after 1st Jan (I've made all my mileage runs and achieved my targets for '03 miles ) Anyway you'll should bookmark this link and visit it often to get great info air travel
  4. Herbal Toothpaste Jaal Jeera powder Amrithdhara I have never checked bags in past two decades so it has to fit my carry-on(s).
  5. Yo !! while you say this from one side of your mouth; on another thread you said which is from the other side of your mouth - What is it ? mate ?? Cognitive dissonance or poor grades in introduction-to-clue-101 Or you can take the 5th and say -- "what ever your lawyer says you say "
  6. The 9th Ave. GSI was the other way around. There was hardly a round-eye at dinner time. Since it's in our 'nabe we passed by the place as it was being done-up. A colleague of mine for whom the Chelsea one was round-the-corner; mentioned the link between the two. So during the first month "no round-eyes in 9th Ave. " and then hell-broke loose and as they say -- "there goes the 'nabe'
  7. OfCourse that's what Professors are there for ... Maybe next APA I'll get to visit HNL

Only in the dining-car of the trains; or the realy big omellete at the Railway's F/Class Waiting Room service .... oh those old memories.....
  10. I think prasad you should post this in the UK list, just in case the resident bongs like Majumdar Brothers are still around

    Ramzaan

Episure: It is not a metal tandoor - It is just a Tava I think.
  12. Excellent report. Few observations - Beyalou and Itsikal Caddessi are always mobbed with the youth of IST. jam packed with Clubs, bads and eateries of all kinds and price range. Tugra, in Hotel Kampinski is an expensive restaurant - We did not try the tasting menu - The Hotel has an outdoor bar during summer with great vodka and a decent caviar selection.
  13. Breakfast is not a big thing down there - I'll give you my experiences. Brazil is a big country - I doubt Cariocas care too much about b/fast - However meat pies, fried shrimp with coffee. In Copacabana beach during summer (i.e January,Feb) Coconuts milk (drink) with a concoction of scrambled egg, shrimps and sausage. The stalls by the beaches will sell you anything at anytime - so If you feel like Frango-de-Passariano (sp?) - Go for it :) Argentina - Buenos Aires: It is very similar to any modern european city - Coffee, toast with jam, small crossant and cookies/biscuits. Chile: Santiago: Eggs with seafood (Omlets with shrimp ) ? bread (toast), small empanadas (general purpose all time snack) Peru, Lima: My friends eat sandwich with coffee for mid-breakfasr; I found all hotels served elarorate continental buffet breakfast so therewas no opportunity to explore. BTW: In every hotel I stayed in SA, they serve fresh fruits+ continental buffet breakfast which we tourist types supposedly fill up on and then go out the whole day sight-seeing
  14. I agree - Go ahead and post about Lima - It always helps.
  15. Due to vacation shortage I have to postpone my SIN/KUL trip for '04 Thanks for the offer.
  16. I agree this is quite a good list - A few comments: Mahesh has opened one in Juhu - next door to JW Marriott. With exception of Dum-pukht, the other restaurants in Grand Maratha were iff-iffy. (while Vikram might have a positive bias towards Sheraton - I had a terrible experience with ITCGM. They overcharged me, and I had to come back to US and sort it out with Starwood & Amex) For Punjabi - I'd add Pritam in Dadar. I'd highly recommend Gajalee in Vile Parle -
  17. I was being polite about icered. Afterall I'm not 20something Since many of my expats have dispersed from HKG (some back home) I have no insider insight to what's happening - Any suggestions
  18. A typical North Indian (Punj) wedding is about three day affair Rarely is the main wedding inn the AM - Mostly it is at night after the dinner reception.
  19. I agree with what you say - Folks from HGK are wane :) That is the only way you can rationalize a Gucci store in every bldg by the waterfront in the Island, Kings Rd., you name it... even though they are all interconnected by a walkway [Walking or commuting is too far off ] I from time to time get to observe the kids ( 20+ something) on icered Read my comments about the Felix's toilets in old egullet archives.... Rumor has it that a top Parisian Chef and a big alcoholic Beverage Co. from France lost out to Movenpic ? (Sp?) for the Victoria Peak restarant space many years ago and were not to happy about it -- They blamed the Brits for the outcome
  20. After lookink at their dinner menu, I was about to hit a reply on this thread --- [ bitching...]; then I went back to look at the other stuff - the snacks -- It was about ghugni ...... lo and behold it was there in the snack list. I loved ghugni -- yum yum BTW Lou Chingri ??? Never heard of this ! [ I hate lou anyway ] With sooo many Silhet/Chittagong cab drivers in NYC you'd hope one bangal place would open up! Nah ! Maybe there is a takeout in the bowels of Queens that I don't know about !!! Oh Well !!! mongo_jones: Good work ferreting this new nugget.
  21. In most of the hotels in HKG, there is atleast one upscale restaurant. Old Regents has two now One has to keep in mind that old Regent claimed to have six star rating Felix is more a hangout thing place -- To be fair, it is called the Felix Bar no ?

    Ramzaan

I strongly second that - Let us vicariously enjoy it :)
  23. I wonder were is Simon dada ? "Tini nischoi aye sob jinish ta jaan ben " [Hey' how's that for a non-bong ]
  24. I would say "Keralite" is about right - I know that many folks who live and were born there do not speak Malayalam, hence Malayali would be incorrect no ? You know your post reminds me of a list of characterstics of various linguistics groups sent to me by a desi - Quite amusing, some of it I got it and some went over my head - A sample If folks in this sub-group are not offended I might post rest of stuff ........ Only if you'll say so
