  1. Chef Power, It is always interesting to see the different paths that people follow in their careers. In regards to this who and/or what were your biggest influences over the years? On a slightly lighter note, a few of us eGers have a strange obsession with deviled eggs. What would your take be on this dish? Thanks and welcome to eGullet!
  2. I have made "Orangecello" before, although from an old family recipe and not Katie's, and you will be pleased with the results.

    got date

Bubbly better than chocolate?! I am not to sure about that...
  4. The cafe at Palena, where you can get the chicken, etc. does not take reservations, that is just for the normal restaurant. I have never had a problem getting a table. Anyway you can get the upscale food at the cafe if you like.
  5. Nope, but I think you just did!
  6. First off many thanks to Chef, Robin, and the staff for a wonderful evening! The details on the food has already been posted, but I will add that those were the best damn biscuits I have ever eaten. Chef, how do you make them? As you can see from the posts and pictures it was another great eGDC outing. Of course how could it not be, good food, wine, and people! Thank you Hillvalley and Babka for organizing!
  7. I stopped by yesterday and the shop was bustling with activity. Once I got to the front of the line I ended up getting some morbier and 4-star cheddar, both very good. She does take her time with each customer, which I think is great even if it means you have to wait a bit. I wish her well and will be back. Babka -- She had some Mt. Tam from Cowgirl Creamery that was selling like hotcakes.
  8. Nice to see the upgrade went well and quicker than expected! Anyway I am looking to see if anyone wants to coordinate wines to bring so that we can share and try different ones. PM me or post here.

    Palena

Seems like Monday nights are eGDC nights based on past posts.
  10. It opens tomorrow 9/2.
  11. Welcome to eGullet! I am looking forward to the opening of Jaelo in Crystal City. What is the exact date of the opening as I plan on having lunch there to welcome you to the neighborhood.
  12. While I do not follow her chats, but have read them sometimes, I think the risotto idea is not bad at all. I cannot imagine trying to come up with dishes off the top of my head during an hour online chat. Its different, which is what the poster wanted. Maybe its because I grew up in an Italian kitchen, but risotto is not a difficult dish to make at all so I do not see how this would be a logistical nightmare. As I mentioned I have read some of her chats and do not recall many glaring errors. I guess I will read more carefully the next time. On a positive note I have viewed some of her videos and find them to be informative and some are interesting. I think they fit well with her audience.
  13. Do you have a standing reservation? I am going to be at Palena tonight.
  14. <soapbox> If you do not have a PayPal account, Just sign up for a one now (its free). This will reduce the craziness for everyone. </soapbox> My $.02...
  15. I made my first trip there today and had the wonderful pork shoulder sandwich and cannoli. If the line was not so long when I was leaving I would have picked up some of those great looking ribs for later. This has to be one of the best lunch deals in the city.
  16. Could you find out if the grilling will continue next week, please? You can see the dates in this here , just scroll up.
  17. I will be heading to Galileo for lunch today. Mmmmmm, pork.
  18. I think the date for Jaleo in CC is Sept. 13th. I work right down the street so I plan on being there opening day.
  19. Too bad I had to leave early. Although its not like I will not be dropping by again.
  20. See you then... I am going to try and make it there too.
  21. This could be a great addition to the area. I am keeping my fingers crossed. I for one cannot wait to check it out.
  22. I am thinking of heading into DC on Thursday or Friday at lunch to sample the delights from Roberto's grill. Anyone want to join me?

    Firefly

A friend and I had brunch at Firefly today and got to sample John W.'s take on deviled eggs. They were done with chili and lime and topped with a perfectly fried oyster. Thanks John for taking time to chat and whip up the eggs!

    Pho

It must have been me, I am there every once in a while for lunch. There is another good Pho place in the Eden Center, which is not that far from Pho Tay Ho, but I cannot remember the name of the place.
  25. If you have the schedule on when he is grilling, post it. I signed up for the email list, but have not seen anything yet. I will have to make the trip over the bridge from Crystal City for lunch. I am sure it would be well worth it!
