I can see where the problems can arise from Varmint, i was just pissed, cos the posts seem to be aimed at my exact situation...Slacker is literally working on my new list , which starts Monday.Egullet has a large readership, and i just wanted to point out that blanket statments about using local wine merchants may carry at lot of weight here.
-
As the exception to the rule (slacker is my wine guy) may i add that using a local guy who has a fantastic knowledge of wines, who you have known for 8 years, who knows your customers, and my lack of knowledge..does make sense to me.Blanket comments don't really help do they?

Rick was on a show on UK TV called "Grumpy Old Men" tonight. One of his moans was automated phone systems ie "press one for sales, etc etc"....try calling the Seafood Restaurant and see what answers...a fucking automated system. -
Well i know for a fact that not all reviews are based on actual visits by inspectors.I have had reviews in the past that were not!I don't mind sharing that with the rest of the class
-
Thats a little harsh, he obviuosly has a site, just not working at the moment. My site in the past was off as much as it was on, but i still told the GFG that i had one.
-
Why are people having a go at Rick??? Because hes taking it up the ass from a corporation which is diametrically opposed to the "values" that this guy has promoted. We all have to make a living, but to say he is the same chef is wrong. He sold out.
-
I think we have been here before, but do you not think that the waiter/bandit had some obligation to mention the price????? If it was close in price to the original choice then fair enough but 5 times the amount???? Fuck my dog!!!!! I mean how hard is it to say," well we do have a very nice 1966 Chateux Blah De Blah at £800 sir"

WHT, is the date of birth in your profile correct?
-
Maybe that was the plan all the time.Sales are going up, because egullet types can't believe hes promoting this product so they have to try it..Suckers!!!!
-
The tip might be better, but we have to pay per Credit Card Transaction, so me as an owner loose out.

Maybe Mr Blackwell thinks hes famous, but actually isn't Anyhoo, not all restaurants are the same....sure, some keep tables back for VIPs, but not all. Some places would have bumped a booked table, to accomadate a former President.Me, i would have politely turned him away, when we are full we are full.No way can you bump a booked table..thats just not right.Say you get great PR out of the Presidents visit, but the people you bumped then went to the press with there side????
-
Rick Bayless? Oh yeah! He's that Burger King Chef. I'm in the UK, so thats all i know about this guys reputation...he sells burgers.
-
OOOOhh Good subject! I don't know the chef in question from a hole in the wall, but can i assume he is running a sucessfull restaurant/s?So hes making a reasonable living. Heres the rub...he either loves the new product he is hired to promote,no problemo or he's saying he likes it for a shed load of cash, which is a little dishonest. I can honestly say that i would turn down big chunks of cash to promote a crap product.I want to be able to look back on my life, and my daughter in the eye, and know i only lied when it was absolutely neccesary.

Well we turned away Keith Blackwell this week.Who he you ask? I have no idea, but we were full for the night he wanted, but i said that if i could take a name and number, i would call back if a table became free. When he said Keith Blackwell, for some reason it rang a bell, so i asked him was he famous(or more likely had the same name as someone famous)..and he didn't answer straight away and seemed a bit embarressed.Anyhoo, he didn't get a table PS if anyone knows who Keith Blackwell is i'd be obliged
