  1. So...? Is Rosie going to change the title of this thread to Fairway doesn't come to Paramus?
  2. Good call, Msk...you're right--Millburn Deli DOES make great Sloppys!!! As does Town Hall Deli in South Orange for that matter...and J&M in Madison. Frightening that I know this, but I do.
  3. Rutt's Hutt in Clifton is certainly close enough to the NJTpk to warrant a stop...those are supposed to be some SERIOUS hot dogs!! According to John (aka John the hot dog guy), they are "Probably the most well known hot dog place in Jersey. Great tasting deep fried dogs with their unique and tasty relish." There's a whole thread about Rutt's Hut HERE. I've never been , but the place is legendary in northern NJ!
  4. That's what I wanted to know--thanks RP! I started going to this show with my mom back when I was in high school (longer ago than I'd like to admit), but I haven't been in at least 5 years, so I remembered the same thing--hot dogs and pretzels! I'm probably going to check it out. Curlz
  5. 7 minutes later... I was about to write almost the same thing! I'm sitting her laughing out loud at that poste, Busboy!!
  6. Lou, First of all, it IS Vikings. Just not Minnesota!! According to the site, "for information regarding the Kiwanis Club of Randolph, please contact this year's Chairperson, Mrs. Ann Walters, (973) 895-4142." I don't have anything to do with the craft show, so unless you think it's better for her to get a call from a customer of yours, maybe you should just call her directly--then you can tell her what you're willing to do. Just know that they get thousands of people going through there each year, so be prepared for big quantities! I'm still curious to know if the "Food Fest" is anything interesting, or if it's going to be that same booth I see at every craft show with the herb dips...anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
  7. While I have no clue of how good or bad the Food Fest part of this craft show is, the crafts have always been excellent. The event is this coming weekend (Oct 22-24) and according to what I read, they'll have "An extraordinary array of gourmet Fancy Foods, from sparkling cider to zesty jams and chutneys, outstanding herb preserves, specialty nuts, luscious cakes, enticing breads, spicy salsas, sensational shortbreads, distinctive coffees and teas, and more. $8 admission and free parking. More info at Morristown Craft Show web site. Has anyone been to this in recent years? Is the Food Fest portion of it anything to get excited about?
  8. Iirc, they do have some Japanese dishes as well as sushi--but I didn't know that sushi was part of Korean food culture...very interesting. Thanks for sharing, oh wise Tommy! The place may even say Korean and Japanese on the signage, for that matter.
  9. I think it's called Daruma (the Korean place, that is)...it's Korean and Japanese, but the main idea is that it's Korean BBQ. Been there twice, but it's been years. I second Tommy's comment re: the service, but iirc, it also seemed pricy for what it was. It's not ridiculously expensive--just for what it was. And it's also a little bit further out from the center of town than where he is. The other places mentioned (Village Gourmet, Paisanos, Mignon, Spring Grill, Cafe Matisse) are all in the 'center' of town.

    Shake Shack

I had a great reason to get in to NYC today...to meet a friend who works at 28th and 5th. And even on this blustery day, you know what that means...lunch from the Shake Shack!! We got there around 1:20, ordered two double Shack Burgers (5.95 ea), an order of fries (1.95), and one each of the Pumpkin Pie and Shakes-PEAR In the Park concretes (6.75 ea). To go. $27.75 total. There were a few brave souls sitting at the tables, but we stood near the Shack and didn't wait more than 5 minutes for our order. When I was handed the bag, I asked where the concretes were. "In the bag." I must have looked at her like she had three heads. "With the hot food?" Um, yeah. Chalk up one error in packing judgement, crew! She was already calling the next order, so we just took them out of the bag and carried them separately. Sadly, b/c of the outside temps and lack of cover over them in the bag, the top layer of fries were cold by the time we walked the 5 (short) blocks back to Jim's office. Luckily, the fries were on top of the burgers, keeping them warm. That was a GREAT burger. An AWESOME burger, in fact! And for $5.95!!! Wow. Jim, who just isn't into food, was marvelling at the beautiful tomatoes and the romaine lettuce on his burger, and announced that the fries were really, REALLY good. And I'll have to swim upstream in this thread to find out what's in the sauce. YUM!! The concretes were less than concrete by the time we got to them. More like soupy. But the Pumpkin one was full of spice, and the Pear is VERY interesting...their 'official' version is with poached pears, chocolate sauce, almond paste and chocolate custard. I'm really not a chocolate kind of gal, so I had them make it with vanilla; it's VERY almondy. But very tasty! It's also in my freezer, so I'll try more of it later when it's a little more um, concrete. Get there before they close for the season, folks!!
  11. Yes, let's revisit the topic of Applegate Farms...I just (urp) finished what they call a small cup of ice cream. Graham Central Station ice cream. DELECTABLE!!! Dare I say...SCRUMCHULESCENT!! Run, don't walk...it's graham cracker ice cream, alright...with that graham crackery-almost maple-SO autumnal flavor AND flecks of chocolate flakes. I say flakes b/c they're not quite chips, and I loved the fact that they just melted in my mouth along with the ice cream. Not need to bite in to them, 'tho you certainly could. The (equally not) small cup of pumpkin is safely in my freezer.
  12. Ditto on all of the previous suggestions, and I'll add Kings... This time of year, you shouldn't have any problem finding them!
  13. The stuff you know.
  14. Thanks for that clarification!
  15. Yeesh, but you're tough to please. Tick Tock? White Castle? TGIFriday's? Hehe
  16. The pierogi place in Clifton that I didn't know about that was mentioned on another thread today?
  17. Terrazza's?
  18. Knowing where you went last night and/or what you had for lunch today would help...
  19. So...? Where did you end up last night, Tommy?
  20. Um, and DUH...Nasto's makes some great fruit sorbets, in particular the pear. They're in the Ironbound, but lots of restaurants serve their stuff. I find it ironic that I've only come up with ice creamsuggestions, as it's not one of the top items on my list--but when I'm in the mood for it, I do go out of my way for the right stuff!! I'll also add India on the Hudson for bhel puri and their chicken pasanda badami.
  21. Denville Dairy and Applegate Farms both do ice cream REALLY well!! DD is an old family favorite, though...
  22. Definitely interested! Curlz
  23. She's going to tell Sophie Glickstein or Stella Esposito where to go with their septegenarian girlfriends for pre-theatre 5PM prix fixe! Credit: Jason.

    Shake Shack

"Shake Shack will also unveil three new seasonal concrete flavors including Shakes-Pear in the Park, Carmel Apple with Toasted Pecans, and Pumpkin Pie." I'm at a total loss. Pear and Pumpkin. Pumpkin and Pear. I read that about six times because I was sure I was mis-reading it. YUUUUUUUUUUUUM!! Thanks for those details, Jason!! I'm there.
  25. Yeah, there are lots of places that I hear are good but haven't been to yet, and that's one of them! Enjoy. And do let us know where you ended up!! PS, I'm with you on the idea that ________ people eat ___________ food 3x a day! When my friends with kids say "Oh, that's too spicy for my kid, I say that the kids from (Thailand, Mexico, India, etc.) eat that kind of food from the beginning..." Great minds!
