  1. Welcome bbonz. I look forward to hearing about your experiences. Which restaurant do you own?
  2. Does Amernick sell their donughts all day or just at certain times? What about the donught place on the Hill?
  3. About two years ago I got a nonstick Caphalon knock off for about $50. This is the most beautiful pot/pan that I own. I use it for everything. Soups, stews, braising, pasta for one, boiling eggs and as a wok. Cleaning is a snap. Will it last forever? No, but I know that and use the hell out of it. I do not worry if I burn it or scratch it. For now I am just mastering my craft and my pots are paying the price. Besides, someday someone may buy one for you

    Beef cubes

What a perfect meal for yesterday's snow! They were fantastic. I didn't use wine or anchovie paste (couldn't find any) but it worked beautifully. I am going to have the leftover all week for lunch. Jenny, I solved the I can't wait three whole hours problem. Two hours in, make yourself a small bowl full of everything. It was enough to tide me over for another hour and well worth the wait.
  5. Check out the ice cream section of your local asian market. Both of mine sell a few varieties of green tea ice cream and other flavors.
  6. More or less. Gasp! I am turning basil green with envy! Bloviatrix, I can be at JFK in three hours. Want to go to S. Africa to east some basil with me?
  7. My class is spending the next few weeks studying Egypt and the desert so it's time to start planning my next food lesson. The only problem is that I know nothing about Egyptian food. I have no idea of what to try with this one. Does anyone know anything about Egyptian Cuisine? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Specifically I am looking for basic foods, ideas of what kids eat and any special dining rituals. Easy recpies would also be great. Help me keep my reputation as the teacher that brings in funky food! Thanks
  8. I was just thinking the same exact thing. Fresh basil is a vague memory to the tastebuds right now. I'm literally dreaming of it
  9. Basil! I would kill for some real, fresh basil. Are you able to grow it all year round? What fruits and veggies are in season now?
  10. I had 10 roommates in 4 years and blocked out most of the food memories I put up with. I did have one roommate who had very long hair and it would end up in all over the kitchen and in the fridge. Another roommate used to number her Tupperware and if we used it we would get a note asking us to use the unnumbered containers.
  11. I guess you didn't hear about the new KK in Rocville
  12. This is a great pattern Jenny. You post about what's in your fridge and I get ideas for dinner
  13. Cut a slit sideways into the breast so you can stuff it. If it weren't too cold to go back out I would tell you to go get some proscuitto and mozzerrella. Spread dijon mustard in the slit. Roll up together, stuff inside the chicken and cook. (I always do it on my George, but there is no reason why you can't do it on the stove.) Top with tomato sauce.
  14. Here is Tom's review Lavandou
  15. Zilla, how did the BM go?
  16. I guess I am in the minority. I love summer for food. Not for cooking, but for food. Berries, tomatos, corn, melon. I miss these terribly during the winter.
  17. My coworker's son works at the Enchalada station. He just graduated from the CIA, I wonder if this is a good career move? She says the place is packed every time she has gone
  18. As someone who is allergic to dogs I find France very frustrating. Sneezing loudly while trying to spend a few hours relaxing in a cafe is very hard. That being said, I doubt I would go to a Starbucks in France. I can understand why they would succeed, but when I am traveling I want to experience the culture of the country I am visiting, not an import from home. I wonder if Starbucks will continue their USA tradition of having a Starbucks on every other block.
  19. Al, you'll be coming home to snow!!!!!!!!!!! 5-8 inches, which in DC means that the whole world could stop!!!!!! Quick, get your tp, milk and bread. It might be a whole day before you can get out again I'm off to braise some short ribs Al_Dente style.......
  20. Where is Ambrosia? I don't know much about it.
  21. Beautiful work. Both the creations and the photos. Congratulations on your success

    Enjoy New!

Five dollars for a big mac????? How much are the fries? What sort of prizes do you get with a happy meal? Some of the sandwhches sound great, but I can only imagine what they taste like since it is McD's.
  23. Aji Nippon. Small Japanese restaurant on Arlington across from Bruce's Variety stip mall. You have to search a little, but it is well worth it!
  24. We can't and we don't want to:smile: DC in the winter is a riot. No one can handle the cold. We freak out at the threat of snow. They literally close school with an inch of snow on the ground. The government is better about staying open, but not much. There are a few Senators and Congressmen who are popular among the locals because they have their own snow plows. Otherwise it is days before they clear the streets. I wouldn't have it any other way! By the way, it's 30 here
