  1. I think I am probably the lone desenter here, but I am glad they are doing an Adult Happy Meal. As part of my job we take the students out to lunch about once a month. It is a great opportunity to practice a ton of skills, not to mention it gets us out of the classroom. That being said, there is only so much a foodie can eat at McD's without gagging. Eating french fries for lunch doesn't set a great example. This Adult Happy Meal offers me, and all the other adults who go because their kids love McD's, a different choice. Would I go there on my own to order one? No Would I order one when I go with my students? Why not? I'll report back when they show up in the DC burbs
  2. No kidding. It's the only thing I miss about my last house. I don't understand having a backyard and not a grill. I'd grill right now during our heat wave. Hahaha
  3. That sucks! How great that you had all the ingredients though. If I knew anything about curry I'd try to help you out but I am afraid that I'm not a curry kind of woman By the way, in the summer the stuffed chicken breast are great on the grill
  4. I hope to someday inherit a liquor cabinet that is built inside a grandfather clock. Untill then the top of my cabinets and freezer will have to do. Great pics col. Wish I could come have a drink

  8. It is going to be impossible to go for a while
  9. If only we could travel there. Actually, if only I could travel there. My kids would never appreciate it. I will definately bring up that they eat pigeon. What a great way to freak my students Are the desserts similar to what you would find in the rest of that region? I have no idea where to find Egyptian candy and don't have the budget to order any.
  10. Excellent suggestion. I'll beat JU to it...... Recipe please
  11. Next question: What should be JU's inaugural dish be in her new dutch oven?
  12. not all of us eat crap
  13. Lunch is the bane of my existence. It is now and has always been my least favorite meal. Lunch is usually leftovers or microwave rice and furikake or some sort of instant soup. Blech. I eat better at dinner to make up for it. Someday I want a job with expense account lunches.
  14. This isn't the first time the thought has crossed my mind
  15. I was sick for the month of December and feel your pain. A few survival suggestions: Chamomile and peppermint tea. When you can't think of eating any more chicken soup, try doctoring it up. Ginger, garlic, extra dill etc. to keep things interesting. Wonton soup is a great change as well. Make sure you take care of yourself. Hang in there. It is awful and sucks but eventually it does go away.
  16. Butterfly, it is great to see you over here! KK is coming to Dupont. Do you know when? I wonder if it will be open as late as the one in VA.
  17. Pomegranite Shirley Temples! What a great idea. I love ST's and make a grown up version with vanilla vodka. If only I could introduce my class to that.
  18. Potato chips and yellow mustard on challah Sugar and butter on rye
  19. Zora-welcome and thank you for your great post! Thank you for all the great info and links. I am on my third snow day have had a great time researching all the info you provided. Last week we made falafel and hummus while studying Israel so I think we will try the fava bean dish next. For some reason I keep thinking that pomegranites are bigin Egypt. I am totally off base here?

Suzanne you are my hero. Somebody wrote it all down!!! One question, why oil instead of butter?
  21. It's so good he said it twice
  22. Last spring I took the cruise from hell. The only good thing to eat on this cruise was the cheese, especially the blue cheese. Every night I ordered a plate of cheese, with extra blue cheese. It kept me alive for a week. I love blue cheese.
  23. You can add 18 more to the count! My favorites are a cookbook from my grandmother's synagogue that is at least 40-50 years old and a book my mother put together of my grandmother's specialties. I haven't read the whole thread so forgive me if this has come up before. Do cooking magazines count?

  25. Jenny, there is a shopping strip on Rockville Pike that has a TJ maxx and a Marshalls for the next time you head out there. I think it's called Federal Plaza. There is a Trader Joes and Pearl Arts Supply in the same strip.
