  1. Have not been to Everest in awhile. The three times I went awhile ago were always pleasing. Some stellar dishes some so-so for the $ and my expectations. On a side note, a way to make Everest more cost friendly is to wait until LET (lettuce entertain you) restaurants sells their gift certs in late Nov and Dec. When you buy $100 worth of certs, you get a $25 cert free. The free cert is not good at Everest or Ambria (I think some others as well) but we used the free certs for drinks and raw bar items at Shaw's. LET website: http://www.leye.com/welcome.html
  2. No, the sandwich pork tenderloin. They can be fried or grilled. Here is a pic of a fried pork tenderloin: http://www.roadfood.com/Reviews/Overview.a....aspx?RefID=652
  3. then you crave pork tenderloins like I do? I haven't found them in Chicagoland.
  4. Does the math work for you? Do you think that you are saving money or do you freeze for convenience sake? How much does a 1' of the bag cost? I used to buy in bulk, now I buy what is on sale. Between the few markets I visit, I can always find what I'm looking for on sale. Maybe not the rock bottom price that I see sometimes, but close enough. This approach has also forced me to try new items, preparations.
  5. Lots of good sandwiches listed, some of my faves even. A recent addition to my personal sandwich menu is a grilled salami BBQ sandwich. Grill thin slices of salami, place on kaiser, french or roll of you choice, with the BBQ sauce of your choice. WOW
  6. they're like freakin' candy. AGREED!!!!! I had not had an oyster I didn't like until this past December in Normandy. There were oysters everywhere and I tried 6 different times to enjoy the local raw oysters and 6 times I did not like them. They were very metallic tasting IMO.
  7. Incredible, a buddy of mine who lives in Coralville has some 'splaining to do. As he and I would dine on tenderloins all over east central Iowa, he said he knew all the good places. I went to Cornell College and never heard of the place in Solon you mentioned. Solon beef days is another matter though
  8. Is there a community-type forum on e-gullet? By community I mean threads listing when/where fellow e-gulleters are getting together.

  10. guajolote, this evening I made the green tomatillo sauce (from what I can remember) that you had made for the Chilequiles and served it poured over the grilled chicken thighs. WAY good, the wife loved it. (she was also glad to see the tomatillos that I did not know what to do with off the kitchen counter). What was the brand tequila you had at your place?
  11. THANK YOU I had checked Sam's long ago when I first had El Conquistador and they did not stock it. Quite frankly I had given up my search. Let's see, about tomorrow and the cooking class. I leave my house, go to Sam's, pick up a bottle, be at your place by 2, It can work! Not promising, but I hope to pick up a bottle before I show. Well I did make the trip to Sam's before guajolote's Mexican cooking class and they did have El Conquistador tequila. It was as smooth as I remember, incredible stuff. guajolote's sangritas elevated the enjoyment another notch.
  12. No I've been to more than a few Korean places, great stuff. There are plenty of Korean places on the north side like Hai Woon Dae. The largest variance has been the level of service and quality of the myriad of dishes served w/the BBQ, not really in the BBQ itself.
  13. Whoa, not much of a purpose IMO and I hope one that is not shared by many others.
  14. What a great time. Thank you for your hospitality and showing me how easy it is to prepare some really authentic cooking. It was a pleasure to meet Aurora also. Look forward to more!

    Smoothies

I actually like the bee pollen grain texture/taste. My wife has been smoothie person this whole summer, never any dairy, frozen fruits, ice, maybe some water if the mixture is too thick.

    French Beer

    I've enjoyed Fischer as well.
  20. Bell's Also my brother loves these trappist "monk" beers. I almost puked
  21. XXXX Bitter from Australia, tops on my list, VERY tough to find in the US, if anyone does please email me, I'm tired of paying $30+ for a case of beer shipped from Oz. When traveling, any bitter, keep them coming. Guiness I like, most other heavy stouts I don't. Hoping to go to Ireland soon and try it "fresh". Hot muggy summer days when I'm drinking many beers, I like mondelo especial, bohemian.
  22. YES. I have to say one of the finest tequilas I've ever had was El Conquistador. If anyone in the Chicagoland area comes across it, please email me. I have not found anyone yet who carries it.
  23. Look for a higher quality sake. A nice primer on sake is located here: http://www.sakeone.com/education/index.htm I have only enjoyed sake at a restaurant and it was served warm, this tutorial was an eye opener for me. I bought my first bottle a few days ago, I have yet to try it but I'm looking forward to it. It was the Momakawa brand.
