Port Melbourne dining

Recommended Posts

We've just moved down to Port Melbourne from Albert Park. Looks like plenty of good places to sample (and keep me out of the kitchen occasionally). Anyone have any particular recommendations/"don't go there!" places?

Rather be in Albert Park to my liking but if you must then Bay Street is ok and so it is Beach Street. It used to be a poor man suburbs until not long ago when the affluent people moved in especially in Beach Street.

Most places lack originality since they are franchised so it is little innovation round there until you hit Dundas Street.

Port Melbourne Pier is where most of the trendy restaurants are but have not tried any as they are close to home so meal is at home most days.

my recommendations come from living in port melbourne 2 years ago, so apologies if these places still aren't open

The Palace on the corner of bay street and pickles street had some good food and dishes, as well as an interesting interior

The Railway club hotel (not 100% about the name) is just off bay street next to the 109 tram's tramline, and do great grills. You'll know it if you wander past, it screams steak and red wine.

Can't think of much else. You're sorted for fish&chips tho!

You're right, Jane. Went there with a friend for a cooking demo and have bought a lot of duck. Only thing I don't like is the Peking Duck pack. Mine was pretty average, one pancake short and lacked the flavour sachet. But the fresh duck is great, as is the jar of duck fat which I use for roasting potatoes. :raz:
