2006 Chicagoland favorites

I'm cheating because I'm not sure I was technically there in 2006, but we love the Warsaw Inn in Lynnwood Illinois for authentic Polish food smorgasbord. Nostalgic favorite. While I was looking to see if they were indeed still there, I discovered that there's also one in McHenry Illinois.

I love these reviews. It's true nobody makes pierogi like Mom but this is the place to go if you are jonesing for some melt in your mouth Polish sausage or all the pierogi, blintzes, or klotchky you can eat. The rolls, soups and pastries are great. But don't leave anything on your plate, they will charge you for wasting their food. How many times we've sat there sipping 7Up so we could burp, make a little room and avoid the extra charge! :raz:

All the big chains selling Chicago-style pizza have downtown locations (and they're all delicious). These include the two most popular styles, the ones that made Chicago famous: stuffed pizza, with its double crust, and deep-dish pan pizza, with a thicker, single crust on the bottom.

Edwardo's, known for their stuffed pizza, has a second location in the South Loop, at 521 S. Dearborn, in addition to the one that Ron mentioned. Other chains with locations downtown include:

I have been a sloth and only made it to Chicago twice in 2006. That being said, both were whirlwind tours packed with great eating. I can now add two restaurants to my "favorites" repertoire in Chicago:

Scylla - where I had a memorable cut of sea trout with truffles.

scwa - those damned quail egg raviolis had me drooling the rest of the year!! I'll go back just for them puppies.

Of course, both of my visits to The Avenues reinforced my unfailing love for Elliot Bowles. (See here and here.)

My other meal in Chicago in 2006 included a return to Alinea.

I look forward to many more in this new year!
