I will have 2 hours to kill at lunchtime in Weymouth on a weekday early in the New Year.

A search of the town on here yields no hits.

Its a sizeable place next the sea so surely must have somewhere of repute.

Does anyone have suggestions for a decent pub or light restaurant lunch?

I'm not aware of any places in Wemouth of any great repute. However there are some quite nice old pubs around - the Boot for example

It is very old and apparently the beer is good (as a non beer drinker I can only go on hearsay) and I think they do sandwiches.

Weymouth also has a fish restaurant called The Sea Cow which used to be excellent but hasn't been talked about a great deal of late

Maybe you could book a table at the Sea Cow and have a pint or two at the Boot first.

Good luck!

Thanks a lot for these suggestions.

My own research has unearthed the Crab House Cafe as another possibility. H F-W had it as one of his top 5 seafood eateries earlier in the year :

Jay Rayner recommended it in the OFM in July '05 (no review though) and it's one of the Independent's restaurants of the year (John Walsh's choice) in today's paper

Has anyone knowledge of it?

It seems idyllically situated on the water's edge near the causeway to Portland.

I asked a friend, a Weymouth resident, if he had any suggestions, and this is what he wrote:-

" Lunch time can be a bit sparse on good eateries in the winter but both Perry's on the harbour side and The Crows Nest in Hope Square serve good food. I think Perry's has a special offer lunch menu on at the moment! The ISO Bar (near Perry's) serves good casual bar food but has changed hands recently so don't know if this still applies."

Hope this is helpful.
