I'm shocked. I didn't know him, but I was, of course, well-aware of his knowledgable and warm presence on eGullet. My deepest condolences to those of you who knew and loved him.

His posts were always entertaining. Count me among the many who were shocked by how young he was. It is a shame that he had to leave so soon. It was comforting to hear that he lived like a rock star. Good for you Matthew Xavier Hassett! You will be missed.
