Has anyone heard that MPW is changing the Criterion into a Frankie's Bar & Grill or is it just idle talk?

Yes, Criterion closing on 23rd January opening as a Frankie's on 26th.

Marco Pierre White - arguably the most talented and influencial British cook of the second half of the 20th Century - has teamed up with Frankie Dettori - arguably an Italian jockey - to open a chain of Trattorias called "Frankie's". Dettori also has a range of frozen pizzas on sale in UK supermarkets. Who says London isn't the most exciting restaurant city in the world?

Personally, I believe that MPW personifies the fiction of Mervyn Peake. He started out as Steerpike and, having successfully usurped the establishment, is now turning into Lord Groan.

That's nearly as bad as when they turned the lovely bar at the Cafe Royal into 'Cheers'.

Just over 6 months and I hear Criterion has returned to as it was before.
