The Best General Beer Book

What would people recommend as the best general, basic book on beers. Something readable for someone who wants to take his beer drinking a little more seriously while still a comprehensive reference.

I'd prefer suggestions for books in print, because that would be easier to order.

I've got his whiskey book, which is great.

I think Garrett Oliver's Brewmaster's table is precisely what you're looking for. There is a lot of general information on beer in there- how it is made, style breakdowns, some history, a reference section- and it is layed out in an easy to follow manner. You can even look at the central 'theme' of the book- pairing beer with food- as a bonus, if you like.

Randy Mosher's Tasting Beer is just out - it's the best general book and also such a fun to read.
