I've been to Syria a couple of times, and would love to go back and take some kind of cooking classes. Does anyone know of anything? I speak half-decent (Egyptian) Arabic, so I could muddle through in that language if necessary (my food vocabulary is disproportionately large, so that's a start). I could also handle French if necessary.

In fact, I'm already scheduled on the trip! Unfortunately, I haven't found anything else yet. (Though I have bought the Aromas of Aleppo book...)

That's great! I was thinking of going myself but syria is a tricky country for me. I am interested in Kurdish cooking so thought of going to her Turkish trip next fall. I have been to Turkey twice but only to the West. Do you have any experience with Annisa? I am interested not only in the recipes but the origins (some of the history behind them) and need to ask if this will be provided.

I feel like I'm wading into a swamp, talking about the difference between Syrian and Lebanese food. Not sure how to pinpoint it, but I definitely feel like I've eaten differently in each place. Maybe figuring out how to articulate that is my goal for this trip!

I feel like I'm wading into a swamp, talking about the difference between Syrian and Lebanese food. Not sure how to pinpoint it, but I definitely feel like I've eaten differently in each place. Maybe figuring out how to articulate that is my goal for this trip!

that's funny, its a small world.

both cuisines are very similar, this much is true but I would think there are differences (perhaps in seasoning or special dishes). Do the Lebanese make the kubba hamda, I wonder? I would love to hear about your trip, I'll be waiting for your post!

I would do a normal web search as well as a google blog search. Blogs especially- found information even on much lesser known cuisines (Kurdish, Azerbaizan, Uzbeki etc). There is nothing like Oh mighty google :biggrin:
