I'd like to ask this question again, for my own benefit. Especially interested in the best places to get seafood, traditional Southern cooking and possibly barbecue. Anyone got a suggestion?

We're willing to drive off the island to Morehead City, Beaufort, Cedar Point...you understand.

Skip Emerald Isle - its a culinary wasteland from what I can tell - head to Morehead City or Beaufort.

Regarding the more local stuff, I don't think you can get good BBQ in the NC coast so I wouldn't even try. However, grab a shrimpburger at the Big Oak in Salter Path.
