What to do with a massive amount of leftover roast pork?
Make some sauerkraut and chop up some cooked pork roast and stir it in to heat it up. Serve with dumplings* and some potato pancakes.
Along with the sauerkraut theme, you could make a knock-off Reuben sandwich with the roasted pork and call it a "Duvel".
*Not Asian pot sticker dumplings but more along the lines of "Chicken and Dumplings".

A co-worker brought in to work a package of the new Pop Tart Bites (click).
I tried a few and have to say they aren't very good. The crust-to-fruit filling ratio is off...too much crust. They are frosted, too, but that didn't help much.
Pass them by...

"Costco alerts customers to recall of Kool-Aid mix that may contain metal or glass"
QuoteCostco is warning customers who purchased a certain Kool-Aid mix that batches of the product are being recalled over concerns that they might contain small fragments of metal or glass...
The retailer issued an alert from Kraft Heinz – the company that makes Kool-Aid – explaining that the manufacturer and the FDA have issued recalls of 82.5oz Kool-Aid Tropical Punch Mix with "Best When Used By" dates of Aug. 31 and Sept. 1 "due to the potential presence of foreign material, specifically very small pieces of metal or glass," -
Limited edition Gingerbread Oreo's:
Actually, not too bad. The ginger flavor isn't that over-powering.
I could have done without the sugar crystals in the creme filling, but the flavor of the cookie is okay.
Now it makes me wonder why they didn't do a half dark chocolate Oreo/half Gingerbread Oreo. Or would that be too weird?

Euro Foods, a Freeland, Penn. establishment, is recalling approximately 119,091 pounds of salame stick products that may be contaminated with Salmonella the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today. FSIS issued a public health alert for the salame stick products on October 29, 2021, believing that the product was no longer in commerce. However, following this alert, FSIS observed product available at one retail location and two Citterio salame stick samples previously collected by the California Department of Public Health have tested positive for Salmonella.
Thought this was pertinent 'cause tis the season for a variety of meat sticks (for Xmas stocking stuffers).

"Worst to come: pasta makers fret over durum wheat supply crunch"
QuoteItalian pasta makers are fearful of a substantial supply squeeze in the coming months after this summer's durum wheat price shock, as the market runs out of ways to offset a dire harvest in top exporter Canada.
It's always something these days, ain't it?

I bought some Almond Roca® Buttercrunch Popcorn this past weekend.
The Werther's Caramel Popcorn I snacked on a while ago tasted much better than this.
This Almond Roca Buttercrunch popcorn doesn't taste like Almond Roca to me. Just sweetness.

The Lunchables still remain stuck somewhere in the supply chain. They could be sitting on a dock somewhere, unrefrigerated, and Walmart will still sell them to their customers (allegedly
).
Here's a pic of the empty shelves dedicated to Lunchables at the Walmart Grocery store up the street from me:
And now the Ritz crackers are stocked but the Keebler Club crackers (some dark green boxes left on the center shelf) have mostly gone missing. Damn those elves!
And the missing Gladware, etc., previously pictured in my older post, all still remain missing.

Just amazing...
"Doug the ugly New Zealand potato could be world's biggest"
Quote...“We couldn't believe it," Donna said. “It was just huge.”
And not exactly pretty. Donna describes its appearance as more of an ugly, mutant look.
But it's quite possibly the largest potato on record. When the couple lugged it into their garage and put it on their old set of scales, it weighed in at a remarkable 7.9 kilograms (17.4 pounds). That's equal to a couple of sacks of regular potatoes, or one small dog.

I'm assuming it's the supply chain, again.
This past Saturday the Walmart Neighborhood grocery store was completely out of...wait for it...Lunchables!
And sadly, their Pepperidge Farm cookies were wiped out, as well. No Milanos for you!
The disposable "Gladware"-type of containers were also mostly gone:
Perhaps buyers were getting ready for their Thanksgiving leftovers.
Saturday's date was October 30th and Walmart was busy stocking Christmas candy:
Halloween was the next day and they had one carton of Reese's Halloween=themed Peanut Butter cups and that was it.
I guess "ya snooze, ya lose"!

Norm, can you point us toward your recipe? Your plate is beautiful. This sounds like a lovely cold fall day soup.
Margaret, I'm not Norm but do know he usually posts his recipes on his blog...see the link in his signature at the bottom of his post: http://normmatthews.blogspot.com/
edited to add:
@Norm Matthews, technically, Velveeta, which originally did contain real cheese, can no longer be called "cheese". The US Government classifies it as a "cheese product".
Having grown up eating Velveeta (my mom's go-to "cheese" when making cheese sauce because of its ease of melting) I don't find any shame in using it, as long as you know what it is.
I agree with @Margaret Pilgrim, it does look like cold-weather comfort food. Thanks for posting it.

Currently snacking on Ruffles Sour Cream & Onion flavored potato chips and thinking of @Anna N(who I believe likes the sour cream & onion flavor on snacks).
But stay away from Snyder of Hanover's Sour Cream & Onion flavored Pretzel sticks. Why? Snyder is known for their buttery flavored pretzels and, unfortunately, the very assertive fake-tasting butter flavored pretzels with the sour cream & onion flavoring added on top just don't taste very good. It's not a good combo.-

"Salmonella Outbreak Linked to Onions"
I had heard about the multi-state outbreak and the trouble they were having to pinpoint the source.
Glad they've seemed to have found it.
Sad, too, because I am tossing the most recent onions I purchased just to be safe.
The onion recall has been expanded...now including meal kits:
QuoteThe FDA is now urging people to throw out onions from several different sources, including some included in popular meal kits.
This article has new listings of product codes (you may have to magnify the article to see the codes).

The local grocery stores have all but abandoned Halloween and are completely focused on Thanksgiving now. The Walmart Neighborhood store had a gazillion bottles of turkey marinade for injecting lining the freezers around their frozen food section. Didn't get a look at the brand but they seemed to have bought quite a lot of it. Makes me wonder if they own stock in the company.
Plus they had hams for sale, too. We always get a ham along with the turkey for Thanksgiving since a lot of people don't like turkey.
The thing about Walmart is they don't put stuff on sale after the holiday is over and done. They still expect you to pay the full price for it. Holiday candy included. No thanks.
The local VONS/Albertsons had a full baking supply section on display, from ingredients like flour, sugar, etc., to baking pans and cookie sheets. Too soon for me to even think about it...

Noticed while grocery shopping this weekend that the Walmart Neighborhood grocery store was having supply chain issues with some products.
Of the empty shelves I saw the only one I can recall was in the cracker aisle where they were missing quite a lot of Ritz crackers. Normally there would be 6 shelves vertically holding the different kinds of Ritz crackers but about 4 shelves were empty.
It's not easy to figure out what was in an empty space unless you consult the shelf product price labels (which I have a hard time reading anyway!).

I think I know the answer to this but would like to her your opinions...
I like the Country Style Ribs that our local grocery stores sell (not sure if that cut is national or just from California). They tend to be on sale quite often.
The issue I have been having is that they tend to be tough to chew. My mom used to parboil country ribs in a pot of water with lemons, then finish them off on a grill slathered with BBQ sauce. I don't own a grill so that option is out.
I bake them in the oven in a foil lined 13 x 9 pan at 350°F. I put a rub on them and cover the pan with foil for about 30 minutes, then remove the foil cover and put BBQ sauce on them and return them to the oven for another 30 to 45 minutes depending on the thickness of the ribs.
But, like I said, they're quit chewy. I'd like to see if I can get them to be more tender.
I think the answer is to cook them low and slow...perhaps a 250°F oven for 2 to 3 hours. Would that do the trick to make them more tender? Or is there a better method? A pressure cooker is not an option since I don't own one. Thanks in advance for any suggestions...
Reviving this ancient post of mine to say thanks to everyone, again, for the feedback and suggestions.
I made country ribs for dinner last night, roasting them low and slow. They were so tender I had to use tongs to plate them (they fell apart when I originally tried using a fork). Which made me think if I used different spices and herbs I could have had carnitas instead.
Maybe next time...
