  1. Another non sweet tooth here. I do occasionally eat dessert, but I regularly pass up cookies and cakes and candy. I'd usually much rather eat something savory or fruit on it's own. This drives my husband, who still loves Kool-Aid and Pop-Tarts, mildly insane
  2. I have that reaction to fish in general
  3. Thanks for the invite, Tad! I especially loved the noodle soup (good suggestion, Theresa) and the twice cooked pork. Very enjoyable meal, and great company
  4. Perhaps it's 2226 NE Broadway (thinking a slip of the keyboard on Kimo's part)? The Blue Nile is at 2225 NE Broadway, and Noodlehead is directly across the street on Broadway, so that might make sense. It's right off NE 24th Ave.
  5. I think that was it! My heavens, was it ever good.
  6. It's directly across the street from the Blue Nile, so it should be easy to find
  7. Last weekend, I traveled to Portland with my husband. Armed with a list of likely places to find good food, we ended up driving down Broadway in search of the Blue Nile for some Ethiopian. Alas, as it was Sunday, the restaurant was closed Both of us were quite hungry at this point, and weren't relishing the thought of trying to navigate yet another set of one way or otherwise unmarked streets (what is up with that?). Then I looked across the street, and saw Noodlehead. Hmmm.....Vietnamese and Thai food? Noodles? Score! Oh, my. The pad thai my husband ordered was divine - just spicy enough, with tender meat and noodles with just the right amount of bite. I had egg roll noodle salad, a perfect contrast of crispy, pork and noodle filled egg rolls on top of fine noodles, lettuce, cucumber, cilantro, and a sweet fish sauce. Add in some Thai iced tea, and we were in heaven. I'm torn between being glad we found such an incredible place to eat and the horrible realization that it is now TWO STATES AWAY
  8. The can of Spam, sitting in the very back of the pantry where no one could accidentally find it. My husband is of the opinion that every home needs a can of Spam - not to eat, but just on principle But then, he also owns a lava lamp, so what can I say.
  9. In the past, I've gone for pure comfort food - macaroni and cheese, chicken noodle soup, mashed potatoes, and of course liberal doses of chocolate. That, and all the things the ex didn't enjoy eating that I did - I reveled at not having to go to Sizzler ever again, ate all the sushi I could stand, ate piles of cucumbers without having to endure averting of the eyes. I also found the Heartbreak Handbook helped a lot. That and time.

    Urgent Help Needed!

I was just going to add that she should be careful wiping. Ask me how I know
  11. Mmmmm....I love onions in all forms as well. I couldn't cook without them (well, I could, but I wouldn't want to).
  12. Mmmmmm.....chicken skin......
  13. My husband and I might be in - just depends on the date. When were you thinking about going?
  14. My mother was a pretty poor cook, though she did have some basics down. She taught me to make a white sauce (we ate creamed eggs on toast often), and she did try to make up complicated dishes from time to time. I think her main problem was she didn't understand when substitution in a recipe will work and when it won't, and didn't ever use good ingredients. Oddly enough, when you start with ground beef that has freezer burn, spices that are 5 years old, and cheese that just had some mold cut off of it, the result isn't too appetizing regardless of the chef. By the age of twelve I started making most family dinners - it was the only way to make sure the meal was edible, most often. Oh, and her tacos were about the same. I managed over the years to come up with a nicely spiced taco filling, out of despiration
  15. YES! I've always wanted to learn how to do this. Even cooler than breaking an egg with one hand (which is so easy and quick, but looks impressive). I stumbled on this thread and decided to give it a go. I needed to toast some hazelnuts, and figured they would work as well as dried beans. Rock, rock....FLIP! Haven't quite got the proper nonchalance to go with it, but that'll come in time
  16. Have you ever considered wearing a shirt to dinner? I knew I was forgetting something.....
  17. The one that gets me most is kechup on scrambled eggs. Why, oh why ruin perfectly cooked scrambled eggs with sticky sweet, red goo? Can someone explain this to me?
  18. I've only had it in one dish - my dad's pot roast, which contains almost every seasoning in his cupboard (the gravy does, at least). Haute cuisine, no, but incredibly good. So count me in on the thumbs up side.
  19. I tend to cook some up, then snarf it all down. What's the problem here?
  20. Oh, I agree. Complete rip off. But that won't stop me from getting a free scoop
  21. Same here. Now, when I go out to eat I make sure to wear something with lots of color and a pattern, or something black. Preferably washable. Nothing like having dots of whatever you were eating center stage across your chest
  22. Wavy Gravy, hands down. My cousin is opening up a franchise in September, and we're invited to the opening. Going to travel up the coast with my kids for free ice cream and because we get to meet Ben & Jerry
  23. I've had many a spill into the cleavage area as well. Let's just say having a napkin in my lap doesn't help much
  24. I eat them as a snack, too - waiting to hear other ideas.
