  1. Is it Pizza Pazza? I think they have a location across from El Oasis just off 5th maybe on Calle 12? They might have 1 or 2 other locations. From what I have heard Playa Del carmen is up and running. 95% of the town is operating in the tourist area's. PDC is a good food choice for a tourist area IMO. Cheap local eats to very good upper end dining. Thanks for the cheese info. The pizza joint is several steps from our rental condo so we decided to try it out just for the heck of the it. At first, we (the Mrs. and I) were quite skeptical with the slices. The square shape slices look very much like the Silician or Ellio's except they are Neapolitan thin (crispy with a nice springiness). The first one we ordered was the gorgonzola slice-Awesome!!!! The second slice was the "shroom"...Fughetaboutit!!! And we finished off with stuffed pizza of ham and cheese...Fughetaboutit 2!!! By the way, were pretty hardcore with the pizza since I am originally from Brooklyn and the wife is from Queens. Forget about Chicago's deep dish, California Pizza Kitchen or Wolfgang Pucks you see in the airport coz...True pizza is to be eaten with hand and not utensils! I forgot the name of that joint but we definitely vouch that place! Yes, we also tried many street foods such as taco al pastor, gorditas, tamales and etc. My friends and I actually joked about driving up to Merida for iguanas and armadillos. AzianBrewer ←
  2. the Bronco is a big fat mess, but its tasty.
  3. I'll be in a celebrating mood in the next couple weeks, are you thinking a late november openeing?
  4. Instead of thos two places for a burger fix you need to either go to Tookies or if in Houston you need to go to either Christians Tailgat (one on Bagby and W Gray and one on Wash at I10) or hit Langkords at 88 Denis in the Midtown area. Shoulda made everyone order something different in the interests of reporting to the world . I drive by Tookie's fairly often, and I've heard they have good burgers, but I haven't made it inside yet . Every time I crave a burger (about 4 times a year) I get one at Barnaby's or Hobbit Cafe. How do they compare to theirs? I'd been hearing about the wonderful burgers of Fudrucker's for the longest time, so finally I got one when everyone at work was ordering take out from there. To put it mildly, I was not impressed. Tiny greasy patty on a cottony squishy bun (my apologies to any Fudrucker's fans out there ). ←
  5. I asked about a suggestion for a bunch of leftover tamales I had from this awesome tamale place in Houston on the Houston board I think and I believe it was Fifi who suggested I stuff them in chicken and roast. Well, it looks like I am going to get some tamales and mix with butter and stuf under the skind of the bird. However, I do worry about that stuffing sitting under the skin for the amount of time it takes to cook a turkey. Anyone think it might be a problem. Anyway about 30 minutes before the turkey is done I will place a bunch of tamales in the pan so they can fry in turkey fat. Oh my!

I sometimes get a pastry at epicure on W Gray. Rustika on SW Fwy has great stuf, especially the empenadas and the migas for breakfast. Andres can still do some good pastries.
  7. What about Andiamo? I heard that place is pretty good.
  8. Sorry, County Line belongs nowhere in this discussion.
  9. In Houston its either Petes Fine Meats for great high end beef, good jerky and pre order exotics. I also like Guys Meat market for the short ribs and hot links.
  10. I think what I am going to try and do is come up with a few dishes that I can prepare ahead of time and freeze as Alinka says she does. I'll just come up with some fairly easy tasty dishes for those days that you need them then wait for a rainy weekend and start preparing. I can make and freeze chili blanco. Make a chicken stock for soups/stews/sauces. Pork tenderloin dish. maybe with an asian theme so that I can then back it up with fried rice dish the next day. A good casserole dish that you can put together raw and freeze? Can you do that with king ranch? I figure i can come up with something else.
  11. Beef stew turned out to be pretty bad. I think one of the problems with this kind of concept is you can't build flavors like you can with a from scratch meal. Had a pork tenderloin dish that might have been the easiest of all the dishes to make if you did so from scratch so it is kind of a waste to pay someone else for an avg recipe. That being said it wazs the best of any of the dishes to date. We had chicken cordon bleu also and it wasn't bad.
  12. I have to start off by blasting Salt Lick, its pretty avg/bad compared to many of the great ones around. Here's my list: 1. City Market, Luling 2. Louie Muellers, Taylor 3. Williams Smokehouse, Houston 4. tie Kruetz and Smitty's, Lockhart 5. Thelma's, Houston 6. Coopers, Llano 7. Littles, Dickinson 8. Gonzalez Meat Market, Gonzalez
  13. I remmber cafe eccel being pretty good when i visited BCS. At least I was pleasantly surprised.
  14. Miyako as the best Sushi is laughable. Its like saying the best mexican food is taco Bell. Teppay and Ginza are the best IMO.
  15. Last week we cooked up the Thai Pork stew. It was a massamam type curry with decent enough flavor. It was missing something though but I can't figure it out. It was very easy to prepare, stuck it in a crock for 5 hours and made some rice. Although it was basically a decent dish and better than the first dish it was still not real exciting to me. Sunday we backed up a lasagna. I wasn't expecting much because the other dished didn't blow my socks off and rarely does a lasagne blow my socks off anyway. But the lasagna was as good as I expected and its a huge pan. Dishes like lasagna or king ranch come in casserole size and are 10 people servings instead of the usual 4 people servings you get from regular dishes. Right now its looking like the use of Village Table will not be acceptable for me as a normal dining schedule. I still have a few more dishes to go but I am already trying to put a gameplan together so that I can get back into the kitchen. Beef Stew is are next dish.
  16. Last night we had are first dish from Village Table and.....it wasn't horrible. It was a dish called chicken superb. Its chicken breat atop artichokes with a sauce on it. Bake it for 40-50 minutes. The sauce was a little runny and fairly salty. The chicken stayed nice and moist. although it wasn't bad I probably wouln't do this dish again. Next dish is Thai Pork Stew. I'll have that tomorrow.
  17. With a 2 year old and my wife and I both working and my wife pregnant with are second, time to cook has been tough to come by. I heard about Village Table a year or so ago and have been reluctant to join. I know I can cook better than these people, I just need to prepare better, is what I kept telling myself. Well I haven't been preparing very well, so my wife and I decided to give Village Table a try. I went onto the website and registered and picked the meals i wanted to try. I picked the 8 meal plan for $150. Its basically an entree for 4 adults which is about 32 servings for $150, not bad. You arrive at the site and get ready by washing hands, apron and plastic gloves then look for stations that have dishes you picked. Everything is prechopped for you. You follow some simple intructions, measure here and there then package your meal. Tonight will be are first shot at this with a dish called chicken superb. Its a baked chicken dish with artichokes and cheese. It looks decent enough, I'll let you know how it tastes and keep a running account of the other dishes. I'll serve it with a veg that I make.

I love Simposio. I haven't been in two years though. What I remember is a great calamari appetizer and the best risotto in town. Hope you are doing well. If you are still in Houston and want Italian try Simposio's on Richmond. ←
  20. He'll have to forgive me for incinuating that he needs me for guidance. Kerr, when you moving over here to this board full time? Its much better than the others.
  21. I don't know about best restaurant but I have been blown away when I dine there. And I love the hot Laarb. http://www.houstonpress.com/Issues/2005-09...ining/cafe.html
  22. Sorry. Yes I was referring to the Marakesh site. Its going to be a pizza joint from Marco Wiles (isn't that his name, the De Marco guy?). It said in paper he is having the wood burning oven being built in Italy to be shipped soon hopefully.
  23. Unfortunately Harrel Ranch closed due to a highway running through the middle of their property causing them to lose the organic designation. I hope they get started again soon because that beef was by far the best beef being sold, hands down. The dry aged prime was nearly as good as the Wagyu they were selling.
  24. Its a Neopolitan Pizza joint! Nice!

You are form Hawai right? Don't go to the gulf unless you are going to Topwater Grill or you HAVE to. The gulf area is opressively hot and nasty this time of year IMO.
