I've been to BO once and will go again when we visit LV in Oct. I know what you mean about sticker shock! When I went last time I decided I might as well spend my blackjack winnings on the full-blown tasting menu as ordering a lacarte was not going to be much of a bargain... Glad you had a good time...!

OK, here's the deal.... A friend from L.A....very high-end/high-maintenance is coming for a visit next month. We'll pick her up from the airport on a Friday and stop in Seattle for lunch. I need a place that's NICE...maybe tablecloths...the whole schmeer...and GOOD FOOD. Some place that is not hard to find (we've not really learned our way around Seattle yet) and has easy parking available....(like near Pacific Place?) Saturday night dinner is easy....we'll take the ferry and walk to CASCADIA ! Friday night I'm cooking...(-: Thanks so much for any suggestions...!!!!

We'd be interested in 6PM (don't know if that's too early for others) as we're old and live a ferry ride away...LOL -

Hey, Chow Girl ! You have a collection of (albeit useless) opening menus...I have a collection of weight gained from visiting such restaurants ! Though it may be sounding like I work for Cascadia or something...(no, I don't) I have to say that I think it's probably the best restaurant I've been to since moving to this area...And, yes, the $25 3-course dinner makes it affordable for most anyone.... -

I've only been in the area for 2 years and from what I've read Cascadia initially was very expensive with no options for a more modestly-priced menu. We've been twice....once having two of the tasting menus, the usual cocktails and wine. The second visit we wanted to try the $25 menu and were not the least bit disappointed. Now, on to their July 5th Anniversary menu...can't wait ! -

tsquare...Thanks for reminding me about their anniversary dinner ! We're going for sure !!! -
I've not been to Cascadia for Happy Hour so I can't comment...only to say the dinner menu is a far cry from mini-burgers and frites. I think it's very refined cooking. I did try one of their Mojitos with sorbet (probably similar to the Alpine martini) and it was yummy...but more like a dessert than a cocktail. Their regular drinks (Cosmos, Mojitos) are great on their own.

Hello Mario ! What are your thoughts on the (possibly) simplistic feeling that Northern Italian cuisine is light and delicate whereas a dish in Sicily is sure to come with more heavy red sauce than pasta? I always thought I'd prefer the food of Northern Italy...but, after three trips ranging from Lake Como to Taormina I'm not sure I agree....anxious to hear your thoughts. Babbo is a fantastic restaurant with lunch at Salumi another favorite ! Char

reesek....I agree with you. I was very disappointed as well. Though I've only gone to Cascadia twice I can't wait to go again in the next few weeks. Everything from the ambience of the room...the presentation of each plate...everything is first-rate and also first-class in my book. I don't know why it's not full every single night.... -

While not exactly 'two for one' the $50.00 gift certificates for $28.50 is quite a good deal I think. So far we've been to Ristorante Pellini (GREAT) and are next headed for Brasserie Margaux and El Gaucho next.

"While Cascadia is outside my price range" Is a 3-course dinner for $25 out of your price range? If not...I strongly suggest you give it a try. -
Hello Mario ! I have never been able to make a bolognase sauce that I consider equal to those I've had in Italy. I've tried numerous recipes...I've tried improvising...it simply never meets my expectations. While it seems such a simple sauce...I'm never satisfied with my results. What's the secret? P.S. I consider myself extremely fortunate to have dined at Babbo and lunched (with fellow eGulleteers) at Salumi...truely the best coast-to-coast ! Foodie-Girl

1/2 priced restaurant gift certificates
Foodie-Girl replied to a topic in Pacific Northwest & Alaska: Dining
So far, so very, very good ! Ristorante Pellini, 28th floor of the Seattle Renaissance Hotel. The view would be enough to bring me back again...but the food was sublime. We shared the following: Carpaccio, Haricot Vert Salad, Agnolotti Piemontesi, Fresh, Wild Salmon and Gelato. Every dish was perfectly perpared and the service flawless. To be honest I'd never heard or read anything about this restaurant and I was more than pleasantly surprised. These 1/2 price gift certificates are (I believe) a great way to try some new places for a very resonable cost. We'll be back ! -

Tighe, I just called El Gaucho and they said no problem using more than one gift certificate. We'll try them out on Thursday !
