This is this Sunday's New York Times. Besides Le Comtoir, Gaya, Mon viell Ami, and Benoit. http://travel2.nytimes.com/2006/01/22/travel/22paris.html

I think along the same lines as Lucy. I have had a great meal at a place and than another poster shoots it down , only to find another praising it again. Could be our own reality. Who was cooking? new? Who was serving? Restaurant changed hands? Chefs?

Those comments are so true. A current example , a favorite restaurant I like in the Camargue is La Chassangnette. The new issue of Saveur is their 100 best things. La Chassangnette was one with two photos of the chef and a glimpse of the inside dining area. A friend in Provence emailed me last week to say the chf had left because they are turning it into a bistro. I'd like to know more if any of you have read an update.

http://www.foodandwinhttp://www.foodandwin...o-go-next-paris I hope I'm posting this in the right place. Food and Wine has said this month that events worth noting in Paris include: Fogón, a modern Spanish restaurant, 45 Quai des Grands-Augustins 6th. Restaurant Dominique Bouchet, 111 Rue Treilhard 8th. Senderens. Good but the weak spot was the service. Pierre Gagnaire's new small seafood place at 44 Rue du Bac, 7th. Alain Ducasse has bought Benoit. They call the $45 prix fixe lunch "a stunning bargain." e.com/articles/where-to-go-next-paris

The latest issue of Food & Wine gives Senderens a good review except for the service.

Brooks Bros Blazer and grey pants shouts American. Casual wear is so common now that I laugh when I think of Brooks Bros on Saturdays when almost all the men were wearing Blazers and grey pants(I sold men suits and blazers there) Beachboy, Zegna like Loro Piano have beautiful fabrics.

I don't know my way around but I'll be staying at a hotel on the rue Vielle du temple, Caren du Beaumarchais. Thanks to all the suggestions.

I had to cancel Restaurants. May need the money for cab fares. Going alone at the beginning of February but I recently have been housebound with a bad bout of asteo-arthritis so hopefully it will lighten up by that time. Luckily, I'll be staying in the Marais and there are things to fill my time , lots of museums and shops so that If walking is uncomfortable, it will be not bad. I'll taxi to homes I'll be lunching at.

I find the waitors (in Provence ) very professional and not friendly until you have been there several times, after that I get kisses.

John Talbot, you have impressed me. Will I be able to get in for an early lunch as a woman alone? -
Sorry, I meant to say Petite Bru. It's around the corner of the Café Progres. Chez Bru is the bistro de Eygalieres. Bru is the chef/owner. I have the menu from the Bistro.
-
It is very good but not as serious as their more upscale restaurant around the corner. The Bistro of Eygalieres. We base ourselves in that village.

I had amazing bad luck with maple syrup. My friends know me enough to tell me they thought it too sweet, They were in Provence, Normandy and near Poitier. But they did like the log cabin Vermont tins they came in
-
and be sure to tell them not to put it in while cooking. You sprinkle it on th dish just before serving. It really brings out the flavors.
-
All the restos mentioned ar good but will add my unusual favorites: Dali's, Spanish Tapas in Cambridge Helmond's, Aphganistan, cambridge Oleana, Fusion at its best ".

Diptyque is on Newbury in the Clarendon/Dartmouth block near Fresh.

Years ago I went to a lovely shop, " Bain Marie." I think it is still in Business. I bought several delightful menu cards that were packaged as gifts. Picturing rabbits jumping out of a huge pot, carrots in mouth, fish holding umbrellas wearing hats, a boy chef walking as the lobsters jump out of a steaming lidded container he carries on a tray. They had antique as well as innovative gifts for the kitchen/dining rooms Th least expensive beautifuuly boxed fleur de sel is in the Camargue. I'd like to know if anyone has bought Angelina's hot chocolate mix and, if so, does it taste the same?
