  1. Interesting post Moopheus. For me I am most annoyed by her tone and manner of speaking to the audience. I am annoyed by her failure to use ANYTHING that is not prepackaged. And I am annoyed by her presentation of the final product. If my neighbor served me a pie like Sandra made I wouldn't care but the fact that this woman is on television and has made millions with her books, etc. and gets away with such substandard results is infuriating. There are more people worthy of that TV time slot than she will ever be.
  2. Oh, I'm going to be good and ready for some bashing. Her show is on in 45 minutes! Stay tuned.
  3. Mine is popcorn. I always have it in the pantry, it's quick, easy and not too fattening. Now of course I wouldn't feed my kids popcorn for dinner so for them it's tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches.
  4. Maybe you could order a glass of wine, don't drink it and then when your dining companion is finished with his/her drink do a little switcheroo and they can have another glass of wine! I've been in this situation before several times. I usually order grapefruit or cranberry juice so at least I can get some vitamins
  5. Unfortunately she's not going away. The article in Gourmet/Sept. 2003 (which I would post a link to if I knew how!) states that she is all set to introduce kitchen products, home decorating produts, etc. a la Martha very soon. Apparently she made over $20M on QVC with lord knows what. She is going to be around for a while.
  6. Actually you could make them the day before, layer them on a sheet with parchment paper between the layers, and reheat in the oven. I did this and they were just fine!
  7. I think most of us cannot or will not make everything from scratch, or buy the best of the best. If we all did that Martha Stewart would not have had a career. But it is interesting to read the posts from people who do make their own stocks weekly, for example. Do I want to do that? No, but I learn from reading about it. I don't believe anyone on these forums mean to offend or belittle any one else's tastes and culinary talents.
  8. I once made some gingerbread pancakes. Make them small and serve some real whipped cream on the side. They taste good at room temperature too.

    Potluck envy

Interesting topic because I cannot eat at a potluck. I always wonder how long something has been sitting out, if the ingredients used were spoiled in any way, is that person's kitchen clean, etc. I know I need psychological help but I had food poisoning a couple times and I cannot go through that again. But if I were to eat at a potluck I would eat from the cheese tray.
  10. I just watched the show for the first time. Did you know that she INVENTED Beer Margaritas? Yes, it's true. She said it 3 times. I guess the fact that I have had beer margaritas for years was all in my imagination. And what's with her shoving whatever she has just made into her mouth and then talking to the camera? That's just obnoxious.
  11. I have always loved blue cheese but strangely enough I could not get near Swiss cheese. The smell and taste were so strong to me. Gag inducing really. Now, I eat Swiss and just about every kind of cheese out there. Except Head Cheese .
  12. Franzia is the brand in the boxes also right? I am by no means a wine snob but I had the misfortune to drink Two Buck Chuck at a party and to me it was really, really awful. I took a few sips of the wine and then headed over to the bar area to find out what was in my glass so that's the first time I knew it was Charles Shaw. I was actually disappointed when I saw that this Charles Shaw was so undrinkable because the press in Portland had given it a lot of coverage and some of my friends were so excited about only paying $2.99 for a "good" bottle of wine. This fraud stuff makes it even worse!
  13. It's about their dad who eats anything, no matter how old or expired it is. It starts out with the dad finding a "brown thing" in an old suitcase and he put it in his mouth and started chewing...without a clue as to what it was. He thought maybe it was a cookie...but he hadn't packed any cookies. And so on and so on.
  14. I have this one too! On my coffee table Looks like I need to read it again.
  15. Thank you Slkinsey. And for the record I am a vodka drinker and I can tell the difference during the drinking and the morning after if I have had the good stuff or not. It's not a crock of *&^ for everyone.
  16. Have you seen "The Cook, The Theif, His Wife and Her Lover"?
  17. Mine is by Messermeister. I purchased it last year at Sur La Table. I LOVE IT!!!
  18. I have a George Foreman Grill (only used twice!).
  19. I posted this several months ago on a similar thread but it bears repeating. My parents both cooked and we had a weekly schedule of dinners which consisted of: -Swiss Style Steak (block of meat seared in a electric frying pan and then boiled with a can of tomatoes). I actually lost a tooth on this once. - Hamburger Thing (hamburger meat and Birds Eye frozen vegetables boiled together and ever so slightly drained before serving) -Cheez Whiz sandwiches -Baked Chicken with Cream of Mushroom soup and croutons poured on top..chicken was never cooked thoroughly. -Fatty porkchops fried in bacon grease that sat on the counter for years. Lather, Rinse, Repeat.
  20. Hey JPW: Try a night of drinking the cheap stuff and then a night of drinking the top shelf. After which night do you feel better the next day? The purer, high quality liquours tend to not leave quite the hangovers the cheap stuff does.
  21. For me, the most useless gift given me was The George Forman Grill...and the large version at that. To appease my husband (whose mother gave it to me) I tried two times to make something edible on it. Hamburgers and Chicken breast. The Sahara has more moisture than they did.
  22. How interesting! Thanks for sharing.
  23. First try York Street. It's a small, small place so you may be shut out already. Then try Abacus.
  24. The way I see it is if all my friends and family cooked from a can or box and then they come to my house and eat real homemade food...they're going to think I am a SUPERSTAR in the kitchen! I like that!
