    Ginger Altoids

Yeah--if you can believe it, it was at the little bitty store on the NW corner of 104th and Broadway! I also saw the ginger altoids at the Duane Reade a couple of blocks down from there. K

    Ginger Altoids

Yes. Between the Ginger Altoids and the Tangerine Sours (SOUR! ), I've found my stocking stuffers for the nieces and nephews this year...that is, if I don't eat them all myself. K
  3. It's really hard to say what the all over BEST dish at our table was, but the revelation of the evening for me was my very first oyster. Oh. Oh my. Oh...MY. (yes, Sam, you told me so). and it had cucumber granita on it. Sexy. K
  4. *double take* Pumpkin praline cheesecake? Could you be convinced to PM me the recipe? K

    Cranberry sauce

A friend gave me a recipe for cranberry sauce with port wine and figs that is so incredibly delicious I had ZERO leftovers last year (made it for Xmas with the family in AZ. I won't be making it for Thanksgiving, because slkinsey would bitch). But I CAN'T FIND THE FREAKING RECIPE! K
  6. I don't cook, but I do clean, and I get obsessive about the kitchen (and very moody if it stays messy or dirty for any length of time) Slkinsey cooks like a god, but also can do unbelievable amounts of damage to a perfectly clean kitchen in about three seconds flat. I try to clean up the night OF a party, but if I'm too tired (read: trashed), I just organize everything, put the food away (we don't have a dishwasher. Well, we do, but its name is ME) and collapse and do them in the morning. The unfortunate thing about being the kitchen fanatic, I find, is that the roomies come to EXPECT that you will do the dishes if they just leave them long enough. I have had to threaten to leave them on respective pillows before, and sometimes even that doesn't work. K
  7. I get 'em for about 2-3 days the week before (which, since it's next week, means, er, today and tomorrow are the evil scary craving days. Anyone want to split a quarter pounder?). Then they go away for a week. Then the day before (which will be a week from tomorrow), I have a desperate need for something - it varies, last month it was Twinkies, once before it was Taco bell, but it's always something horridly bad, usually fast food that I don't even LIKE that much the rest of the month. Right now I'm salivating over the bread pudding Slkinsey is making for Thursday. I should perhaps warn him that making it too far in advance would be disastrous. K

    Lunch! (2003-2012)

A barbacoa burrito at Chipotle, with pinto beans (NO RICE, makes the burrito too filling!), sour cream, cheese, lettuce and two kinds of salsa. And a diet coke. K
  9. Whew! So, of course, after blithely volunteering to keep the list updated, I haven't even had time to read egullet for days, DAYS, I tell you. Do you know what it's like to try to catch up on the new posts? Unfortunately, due to new constraints on my time (I just took a volunteer position as head of fundraising/special events for New York City for Dean, because who needs sleep, anyway?), I'm going to have to withdraw from Burger Club. In the last week, I have been home for approximately five minutes, and it just isn't enough time to catch up with email and phone calls, read all the posts to egullet that i want to read, keep my apartment decent, play with the ferrets, sleep a little, practice, AND plan in advance to eat burgers, even with lots of cool and fun people. And I only got to go to one meeting. I'll check in occasionally and maybe when things calm down I can come back. If you do want to have lunch or something (it needn't be burgers, for fear of being labeled an illegal side group! ) shoot me a PM! Yours in beef, K

    Starbucks

I don't like Starbucks for regular coffee (the little coffee cart on the corner of 41st and Park has better, IMHO), but I will admit, with shame, that I am absolutely addicted to the gingerbread latte that shows up at holiday time. With whipped cream, of course. K
  11. They look like baby chickies to me. NOW do you understand why I won't let Sam feed them to the ferrets????? K
  12. Yes, indeed, and in fact sopa alentejana has made it to the very top of my "favorite soup" list, as a result of EM's making it for us. WOW. 2. Potato leek soup 3. Chicken soup - either grandma Rose's chicken soup with kreplach or slkinsey's fab chicken soup with all kinds of stuff. 4. White bean soup, at least the way slkinsey makes it. 5. I absolutely adore Spade's Noodles-n-more's won ton soup with udon noodles and roast pork. K
  13. adding the new ones to the list. Reminder: folks, if you have new suggestions for the location list, please PM me with 'em so that I'll remember to add 'em! Thanks! Ok, slkinsey and I definitely cannot do either this Saturday OR the Friday after Thanksgiving (we have a brunch that Friday). Tuesday night before might be ok, though. K
  14. dude, if I go to Burger Club, there is no way I'd only be able to stay for an hour, eat a burger and leave. It's way too much fun. Not to mention our plans include dinner...for which I'd actually need to be hungry. K
  15. I thought this might be of interest. Riverbend, the young woman in Baghdad whose blog is entitled Baghdad Burning, has begun posting recipes on another blog entitled Is Something Burning? The lentil soup looks delicious. K
  16. Oh, crap. I too was under the impression it was earlier in the afternoon...slkinsey and I have plans Saturday evening. POO. K

    Lunch! (2003-2012)

I had a slice of pepperoni and mushroom pizza and then slkinsey shared 1/2 of his spinach, broccoli and ricotta slice with me. ...and a diet coke. K
  18. Oh...THIS thread is why Sam suddenly jumped up from the computer and made drinks! I was wondering. Not that I mind. GOD, I love gin. K, sipping.
  19. What hours are you at the show? Is Sunday bad?
  20. Aw...don't be disgusted. I'm just going to write off this weekend as hopeless, start fresh on Monday. K
  21. As of this very minute, I am, yes, planning to attend the next outing. Mmm. Hamburgers. and whoops--I TOTALLY spaced and forgot I had offered to keep the list of location suggestions updated. So, with the approval of our Fearless Beef Leader, I'll put the list on my computer. If you want to add to it, email me, and I'll post the updates once a week. K? K
  22. I indulged a major PMS craving today. I spent the entire day eating cheese. I kid you not, the. Entire. Day. Epoisses, Edel de Cléron, Morbier and Saga blue on sourdough and hazelnut sourdough. I am now pleasantly full of cheese and my fat/salt craving has been satisfied for the time being. And my hormones are calm and ready to allow me a good night's sleep, assuming the ferrets don't start fighting at 3 am again. Oh and slkinsey made spicy hot chocolates...that just put the proverbial icing on the cake. K

    Lunch! (2003-2012)

Actually, I had a hair appointment for lunch today, fortunately I had had a nice cranberry muffin for breakfast. My colorist has gone to Paul Labrecque...I was sitting between some soap opera star (no idea who) and a journalist who is working on a big "dangers of botox" story. Fortunately this color tends to last several months. Labrecque = not cheap. K
  24. Well...as the Hertz commercial says...not exactly. The TRUTH is this: I smoked 1/2 of a cigar during a cast party at which I had imbibed not wisely but all too well (so was already feeling a tad topsy-turvy, if you will). No one had bothered to inform me that one doesn't inhale the smoke from a cigar. That is how the cookie tossing came about...the combination of smoke in the lungs and a large amount of several different kinds of alcohol over several hours overcame my gag reflex. Slkinsey also neglected to mention that I have since taken great pleasure in the occasional 1/4-1/3 of a cigar without any appearance of cookies, digested or not. K

    Lunch! (2003-2012)

Had a slice of "lasagna" pizza, which seemed to be 'za with ricotta, mozzarella and ground beef, from the place across the street from where I work. It was ok. Crust was nice & crunchy. Oh and a diet coke. K
