  1. If you are in Mendocino then Cafe Beujolais is your best bet. If you are anywhere else in the county, pickings are limited. We had an excellent lunch at Libby's Mexican in Philo and a decent lunch at Lemons Market in Boonville
  2. Perkins Cove will also work with kids and they will enjoy the view
  3. My wife claims the KA, for me it was upgrading to a commercial blender
  4. This is the 6th review of Gotham, the first was by Marian Burros on 6/1/84 gave it a fair rating, the next 5 were all 3-stars Bryan Miller on 10/4/85 and 9/29/89, Molly O'Neil on 8/27/93, Ruth Reichel on 2/23/96 and now Sifton
  5. A quick scan of my database shows that over the years many restaurants have received 4 or more reviews with at leat 3-stars. Several have received 4 star ratings 3 or more times. This was actually the 5th 3-star reveiw of gotham
  6. we went to Coi last year and were blown away, service, food and ambience. Not something you can find in most places
  7. our favorite is Bayley Hazen blue its a local
  8. A friend who lived in Marseille for years recommended L'Epuisette and they also subscribe to the charter. We ate there this past October and were overwhelmed by the bouillabaisse. Besides the view from the restaurant alone is worth it
  9. I too have the Champion and do not find it hard to clean but then I am comparing it to my 20 year old Braun (which luckily died), now that was a pain to clean. The Champion does a much better job, extracts more juice, juices leafy veggies and in my untested opinion yields a better juice
  10. Obika is the mozza bar found in several locations in Italy and has opened a branch in NYC, LA, London, Istanbul and Tokyo
  11. We had a great meal at La Merenda,4 rue Raoul Bosio this past October. If bistros are what you want then this is fine the only down side is that it is cash only
  12. Its not the product placement I object to as much it is the sleep deprivation challenges. This is the second time they've had unannounced all night cooking challenges and it shows in the dishes that have been created. I think it was the lack of sleep that made Carla wander about wasting time looking for tablecloths when she should have been cooking and may have "fatigued" Angelo's tongue. Unfortunately the inconsistency of the judging and the sometimes lame challenges have lost the show to me. It has turned from a cooking show to reality tv.
  13. We frequently cook shrimp on them, works great and is a great conversation starter. We have also done steaks too.
  14. i would add Corton 11 Madison Park Lincoln Osteria Morini Aldea
  15. Salt by Mark Kurlansky and Oyster and Cod
  16. Just had dinner there on Tuesday. We could order whatevefr we wanted off the menu. You will not be underwhelmed. We had so many amuses while we were studying the menu that we were almost full before we ordered. I would actuallyu worry about too much food. Have fun
  17. we haad a great dinner at L’OSTU DIJ BALOSS right in Saluzzo
  18. Having eaten at Del Posto and Alto I prefer my experience at Del Posto - but they were a year apart. This is probably not the most 4-stars at one time in NYC. Fat Guy was right, back in the 70's I believe there were more but I can't tell when restaurants closed so I can't confirm the total. On one review Canady gave 5 restaurants 4-stars in 1975.
  19. For the record 106 cookbooks 96 in the system (90%) 55 were indexed (52%) But those not in the system and the vast majority of those not indexed (except about 5) I rarely use
  20. We have the french door freezer bottom. I prefer the bottom freezer since we don't access the freezer as much as I would the refrigerator and something has to be on the bottom. We have no problem finding stuff in freezer, maybe that's because we have gotten anal about labeling things. So far I have had three french door units and I think the manufacturers have sucked. In our first, the freezer kept icing up - it was frost free. Under warranty and 8 repairs it was finally replaced. The second one did the same thing and they wanted to repair all the same items that didn't fix the problem the first time. We nixed that idea and got a different one from the same store. That model's design was chincy with the latches on the door constantly breaking. So I like the design, smaller swinging french doors and botton wide freezer. Just help me find a good manufacturer.
  21. I picked up a copy of Chez Panisse fruit for $10 because of a damaged cover. We have found it to be very good but have no experience with any others
  22. so what was your secret to securing the resy?
  23. Well I did email them as soon as it was open, did plan my trip around El Bulli and mentioned that it was our 20th anniversary. Unfortunately it was not meant to be. So on to Barcelona instead.
  24. Well we can start the guessing now. In addition to EMP and Corton I would add Convivio and Marea, Le Cirque, and maybe at last Aquavit and Chantarelle. Also maybe they can overcome their asian bias (now that Tokyo and Hong Kong have books) and add Sushi Yasuda, Matsugen and Tabla. Well we are half way there any others? Did Babbo and Craft re-earn their stars?
  25. King Arthur flour has an assortment of "scoops" in different sizes. http://search.kingarthurflour.com/?N=0&rt=p&Ntt=cookie+scoops"
