    Chicken Breasts

I have boneless chicken breasts that I was going to grill tonight for dinner. Since it is cold and raining I want to cook inside. I would appreciate any ideas as I am tired of making the same old thing. Thanks.
  2. I think I remember reading about an Italian Gourmet Deli/Grocery in Upper Montclair. Does anyone know exactly where this is?
  3. Since we live so close we tried Dim Sum a few times to give it a chance. I found the food VERY salty. I would not go back.
  4. I think this place is great. The food is delicious and not loaded with garlic. A lot of the dishes are made with roasted garlic so the raw garlic taste is not pervasive. The service is good and staff is friendly. We were at the Stinking Rose in San Francisco last summer and we had a great time. We ate dungeness crabs in garlic which were terrific. I think Garlic Rose is worth a try. I wouldn't sit in traffic but on a nice day I would go to Morristown, shop at Century 21 - no tax- and eat at Garlic Rose. Be sure to make a reservation. Enjoy!
  5. While on the road from Sedona, Arizona to Scottsdale my husband needed to stop. He pulled of the road and went into the public bathroom on the side of the highway. He came running out 3 seconds later and said when he read the sign that said "Poisonous snakes and insects inhabit this area, use at your own risk" he decided he could wait until we got back to our hotel. A few months ago we were in Anaheim for a business convention and went to the movie theater in Disneyland. I have never seen such a great theater or a cleaner bathroom; fresh flower arrangemen and everything!
  6. I called early this morning and was shocked to have gotten a reservation for the day and time I wanted. Can't wait to go because I was such a big fan of Lespinasse.

    City Hall

We were a large group and were beautifully accommodated. Dinner was good, wine list good unfortunately my husband and I shared a seafood appetizer and the clams did us in. Can't say it was the restaurant's fault but we won't be going back. We went there because it is close to my husband's office. How did you pick this place?
  8. We just came home from a lovely dinner at the Church Street Cafe. After seeing a 6:45 movie across the street we got to the restaurant at 9 and were seated right away. There was a terrific band playing outside and the music was audible inside and was great. I have a little mixed feelings about this restaurant. Not to say we won't go back because we loved our food but we were made to feel like outsiders. We were originally offered a small table in the back corner and seeing how there were two booths open we asked for one. The hostess ( I think owner) said sure she would clean one for us and immediately gave the couple that came in after us the one that was already set. They seemed to know each other. Our waiter was terrific and apologized up front for being harried as he said all of his tables had been seated within minutes of each other. We decided to share a delicious caesar salad that the menu said was served with marinated tomatoes and garlic croutons. There were no croutons but a small dish of them was brought to us as soon as we asked. On the waiter's recommendation I ordered the spiced seared tuna that was on corn and tomatoes and I really enjoyed it. My husband ordered the steak frites that he devoured. The hostess (owner) looked like she was making rounds at all of the tables and totally walked right by us. She did look at us and then walked awau. An out and out snub if I ever saw one. We didn't let it bother us and finished with coffee, no dessert. We will go back because the food was so good and I hope the hostess (owner) takes a lesson in interpersonal communication.

    Super soup

Raymond's on Church Street in Montclair has excellent soup.
  10. We have a wedding at the Renaissance Hotel at the Inner Harbor late in October. We will be arriving in Baltimore mid morning on Saturday and because of scheduling only have time to eat as many crabs as we can for lunch on Saturday. Any suggestions where we can eat in the area? Thanks.
  11. So - it's Wednesday - where did you go on Tuesday?
  12. I am sorry to hear everyone's complaints about service. When TF first opened my husband and I were there, most often with friends, almost every week. At first, the service was slow but seemed to have gotten better. We haven't been there since the middle of July because of the horrendous service we had. I don't know who is watching but someone should!
  13. While packing for a recent trip to Mexico, my husband, a coffee importer and taster, told me to pack some coffee. I ignored him and boy was I sorry. We got to our hotel that advertised in room coffee makers only to find that they were charging 350 pesos for a small bag, enough to make two cups of coffee. I wasn't interested in making coffee in the room but when I ordered it after dinner I was shocked at the poor quality of the coffee. My husband said that because coffee is such a money making export countries ship the best quality out and keep what is left for consumption in the country. I did order coffee at every different restaurant we went to but it was basically all the same. It was an experience for me to go 10 days coffee free. The first thing I did when we got home was brew and drink an entire pot. Learn from my mistake, bring your own!
  14. How about Samdan in Cresskill? Great Middle Eastern food.
  15. I can't believe it. I go away for 10 days and come back to find my beloved Arthur off the air. I was just trying to get used to listening at 11am.
  16. I passed by Colors yesterday. I was going to stop to look at a menu but I didn't see any in the window and the shades were drawn. Has anyone tried this yet?
  17. We don't particularly like Due Amici although a friend is a regular. We had dinner there twice last year and were not impressed both times. We did have dinner at An American Fare in Maplewood on Friday night and just adored it. The food, service - everything was just terrific.
  18. We have never been to Ridgewood. A friend is a vegetarian and usually just orders plain fish. Is this the place for us? Where else in Ridgewood would you suggest?
  19. I am getting it at a small farm stand on Northfield Avenue in West Orange. She brings it in fresh each day from a farm in Warren. I am steaming it - a lot of it. What we don't eat off the cob we eat in salad the next day.
  20. We wound up eating Portugese food at Tony daCaneca. It was terrific as usual. I was surprised that the restaurant was only about 1/3 full at 8pm on a Saturday night.
  21. Thanks for the ideas Rosie - we are going to Primavera next week and I will report back. I loved it when it was small and I hope they are able to keep the quality as good. There are always a lot of cars in the lot - they seem very popular. I am going to call Corso 98 to see if they will have a table for us.
  22. we just made last minute plans with friends - looking for an italian restaurant, in the west orange area where we will be able to get into tonight. any suggestions?
  23. How about Garlic Rose in Madison? Food is good, prices reasonable and they do not rush you out.

    Landmarc

We went to Landmarc last night and I LOVED it! We spent a long, very hot and extremely humid day shopping in Soho and got to Landmarc at just about 7. When I called to make a reservation that I learned they don't take, the person was nice enough to tell me to get there by 7 and we would get a table right away. A very nice waiter explained their wine list to us and we ordered a half bottle of a beautiful champagne that we really enjoyed. My husband didn't know whether to order the goat cheese profiteroles or the chilled corn soup with rock shrimp so he had both! They were terrific. I had the endive salad with blue cheese that I loved. For our mains he had the rib steak and I had the tuna. Although I enjoyed everything I felt there was a little too much salt on my fish. We had the dessert sampler. The lemon tart was our favorite. With coffee and cappucino our bill came to $125 without a tip which we thought reasonable for what we had. We will definitely return.
  25. I met friends for dinner last night in a restaurant I had resisted going to for years because of perception. I viewed this place like I did the old Don's in Livingston where the cars is the parking lot were only the most expensive but the food was awful. This restaurant is not far from where Don's was and the cars are just as expensive so I was never tempted to even try it. I walked in to a dark bar where smoking is allowed and was met by a very nice hostess who showed me to my table of friends. The dining room is very pretty as the entire restaurant was recently re-done. It is very loud though. The menu was extensive and choosing was difficult. They do offer a whole wheat pasta dish for those who are doing South Beach. As an appetizer I picked a Romaine Salad which was a big plate of lettuce with blue cheese, pignolis, artichoke hearts (canned) and sun dried tomatoes in a light dressing. I thought this was very good. For my main dish I settled on Tuna Provencale which was two nice size pieces of tuna that I ordered rare - but came more medium. This was accompanied by 1/2 a roasted potato and a few sauteed vegetables. I thought that the tuna was good even though it was cooked more than I liked it. It also came with a side of pasta with red sauce. The pasta was gummy and the sauce was okay. My friend had grilled salmon on a bed of spinach that she really enjoyed as did my friend who had a HUGE plate of eggplant parmagiana. None of us had dessert so I didn't see what they had to offer. They have a liquor license and a pretty big wine list but none of us were drinking. With a glass each of ice tea and coffee our bill came to $155 for five people plus tip. I will definitely give this place another try and insist on rarer fish. I was surprised that on a Tuesday night the place was crowded.
