I just found out we are having dinner tomorrow night at Tabla, a place I have never been to before. Any suggestions as to what to eat? Thanks

The thing I hate most is getting a bad cup of coffee after a great dinner. We had a beautiful meal last summer and the coffee was terrible. We have yet to go back to the restaurant. What I don't understand is pricey restaurants using cheap coffee.

The Park West Diner in West Paterson has the most delicious salads and they are HUGE!
-
Call before you go. When we visited SF last summer we were all excited to visit R&G. We got to the restaurant only to find it closed for a private party - boy were we disappointed!

I had an unbelievable chickpea and porcini mushroom soup at Raymonds in Montclair. I hope they don't lose their touch when they move into 28's space.
-
We had dinner recently at the River Cafe in Brooklyn. A quiet table by the window was wonderful as was the food.

I would like to work my way through Montclair. There are so many new (and old) restaurants that we have not tried.
-
Where exactly in Montclair is this place? Has anyone tried the "new" Mulberry Street? I can't remember the new name.

I agree with jordyny that Ess-a-Bagel is the best. There is a store on 1st and 21st as well.

Had dinner here last night. I don't know what I would do without the tips I get here on egullet. My husband and I thought the food was terrific. I had salmon in black bean sauce that was delicious as was everything else we tried. The owner, Alex spent some time with us and he was a very nice man. He is not a restauranteur by trade, it is his wife who was in the Chinese take out business and when this place became available they decided to take a shot at it. We will definitely be back as well as doing take out. There aren't many local choices for good chinese food.

How come no one has mentioned those mall restaurants that hand you a pager to tell you when your table is ready and which stores you can not go past?

ate at Garlic Rose in Cranford last night. even though the menu and decor is the same i much prefer the madison location.

we had a wonderful dinner this summer at Tim Shaefer's. it was very pricey but worth it.

definitely dinner home tonight - we have reservations at Blue Hill for tomorrow. waiting for a month to go - hope we don't have to cancel. we live on top of a hill that gets really slippery!

Erez - my husband and I are dining there next week. can you be more specific on what you ate?

Over the summer we went to Top Notch - which was lovely. The food was good, the service very friendly and they were in the entertainment book!

I second the tuna loin. The lamb chops were great as are the sides of vegetables, spinach, broccoli rabe. Enjoy!

There is a product called Spray Nine. Wine stains disappear before your eyes when you spray it on. It is great for cleaning too. You buy it in the automotive section or in a paint store.

It is Crystal Plaza and they serve non-kosher food as well as kosher. It is a beautiful place but very expensive.

We had dinner there last summer and loved it. My husband ate the garlic dungeness crab and I ate the cioppino. They were so accomodating as my 11 year old only likes "plain". they served him a grilled chicken breast they he loved.

okay - i'm back and boy was it terrific. the restaurant is so pretty - the flowers were magnificent. we were seated promptly at a beautiful window table. it is a price fixe menu - $70. first they brought us a wild mushroom soup to taste - it was rich and creamy. then the next sample was pan fried oyster wrapped in smoked salmon on a bed of chopped eggs/shallots topped off with osetra caviar - yum! my appetizer was three jumbo shrimp in a delicious sauce with pineapple/jalapeno - it was great. my main was rack of lamb that was soft and tender with sliced potatoes and creamy spinach. before dinner we were given either scallop ceviche or fois gras. i tasted both and they were really super. desserts were the best. i had a "brooklyn bridge" that was CHOCOLATE. it came with hazelnut and vanilla ice cream. a delicious cup of coffee ended a wonderful meal. there were 4 of us - we are not big drinkers at all - we each had a glass of wine. their wine list looked great and not outrageously priced - we didn't order a bottle because 2 drank red - 2 drank white and we didn't really want a lot. with tax and tip the bill came to $420 which we didn't think was expensive based on what we had eaten. we will definitely go back again.

thanks - i'll be sure to report back.

going to the river cafe tomorrow night for the first time. any comments/thoughts on food and what to order?

If you use Empire Kosher turkeys you do not have to brine them. They have already been soaked and salted.
