  1. Same!
  2. I had a dental cleaning yesterday. My Chinese American dentist is busy and not dealing with paranoid, racist idiots affecting her business. That said? We ordered from the local diner. We do live in Northern Nj and diner food was easy on my poor mouth.
  3. Thanks. The Anova app is saying one hour at 150 for medium well. Why less cooking time with the app?
  4. Ok I’m going to give this a go. I just got a 1.28lb whole irl tenderloin from Wegmans that has seasoning on it. how do I figure out the time and temp? I have an Anova. I prefer my pork medium well and want to sear it in a hot pan after taking it out of the SV bath then serve. Does that seem like a reasonable plan? (running off to actually take the Anova out of its box!)
  5. @suzilightning I did get a gift certificate for Scaleni Fedeli. Haven’t been before so I’m excited. I actually haven’t been to Jockey Hollow yet either.
  6. I do have two kits worth on Instapot inserts so I hope I’m good there. I however loathe hard boiled eggs. And most eggs other than scrambled. I know! 🙈 At least I don’t put ketchup on them!
  7. I’m going to go grocery shopping tomorrow and will also order items to be delivered. Think stupidly simple.
  8. Ok I’m really out of my element with these gifts so if anyone can recommend which unit to start with and what to do with it, it’s much appreciated:
  9. I’ll be in Montreal in a week. I suspect my hunger could be motivated by the legality of a certain plant. The TimeOut food hall has some interesting items. Given the temperatures up there, I will need to be majorly motivated to travel more than a quarter of a mile from the hotel.
  10. We got the Jelly Belly box too @caroled I love it. I sneak a couple every day. I am at a loss between the IP, the Anova and the air fryer. Our fridge is dead and not being (hopefully) repaired until next week. So for now I’m keeping leftovers and delivery food in our much smaller fridge downstairs.
  11. I can get See’s at a good price when I got to SF, which I do between 2-8 times a year. Just let me know. I got a 6 qt Instapot with two accessory packages, an air fryer, a comfort mat for standing at the sink to do dishes, and probably a few things I don’t remember.
  12. It’s a really stupidly easy concept but for some reason, people go nuts for them, pun intended. I take a half pound of pecan halves, about 1/4 cup of butter melted. I mix the melted butter with lawrys seasoning salt and Worcester sauce, which I eye. I roast (?) the nuts mixed with the melted butter mixture in an oven at 250 for about 1.5-2 hours. I do it in a disposable lasagna aluminum tin pan. Last year in less than a week of being here, my inlaws ate 3lbs alone. My parents probably 2 and my husband at least one. I also have brought them to collegiate tail gates with great success. Strange but true.
  13. @Jacksoup thanks for asking. It was embarrassingly lazy. After Cal best Stanford the night before we stopped in a very crowded downtown Pall Alto to get onigiri from Onigilly as road food. They were really good! Wine and Roses was gorgeous. Beautiful grounds with the Lodi visitors center on site so we were able to sample and by wines. They had three birds who spoke which was neat too. Then I slept for 4 hours straight, woke up and had KFC delivered and went back to bed! 🙈 we didn’t even visit a winery. We went to a nice pub for dinner the second night but really used the time to recharge and relax and enjoy being alone and with a tv!
  14. I slept through breakfast and have no regrets. We were delayed by less than 2 hours so we had breakfast at the SF Giants bar and a couple of drinks and I slept 90% of the way home. We were lucky not be delayed longer. That said they didn’t offer the “wraps” on either flights. Kinda of annoying. Those business class transcontinental flights aren’t cheap and they let economy plus use the bathrooms which meant lines and people bumping into me and waking me up.
  15. I refuse to eat fish on airplanes.
  16. This meal was surprisingly decent. We had the short ribs.
  17. I’m flying tomorrow on United from EWR to SFO, business or first class (this flight has no distinction between the two). I called United via our mileage plus card to see if they could tell me what the meal would be. That said I will be pissed if they serve the usual “cold duck” appetizer, the basic salad (which I will eat) and the choice of fish or chicken. And our course the usual ice cream sundae. Having had laser gum reduction surgery On Monday I can’t eat a lot of things. Otherwise I’d get a nice fat burger from the airport to go. I probably should have asked for a kosher meal.
  18. Yesterday’s surgery has me in a considerable amount of pain but I do have prescription painkillers. So far I was able to eat some eggplant parm (in vodka sauce to cut the acidity) and Italian ice and rice. Hopefully each day brings considerable recovery because I’m traveling across the country Friday. @Shelby I hope you’re on the mend too!
  19. There are trains. I wouldn’t do it. NJ transit is unreliable at its best and down right awful in general.
  20. Reviving this thread. all I want is Advil. And broth. I’ve found better than boullion (can’t spell it’s late) to taste pretty poorly. I’ve mixed a cup of boiling water and tbsp of their powder version. It’s almost fishy.
  21. So I refused to have gum surgery with actual surgery. So it will be done with lasers on Monday. Part one of two. I don’t anticipate it being horrific and I’m more concerned about the atheistic since we leave to go to my inlaws on Friday. I’ve been eating everything I know I won’t be able to like bagels and burgers. After Monday I’ll need to eat mush.
  22. They had the Beechers cheese samples last year. I never opened it. Do you think it’s still ok? I used to work around the corner from the NYC flagship store and eat samples for lunch about 11 years ago. Earning 50k in Manhattan isn’t a livable wage.
  23. I have no experience in hotel as I live about 15 miles away. Newark is likely the best airport to live by and be able to live 25 miles from Manhattan and be in the suburbs. That said everyone raves about this place: https://www.valencarestaurantnj.com/
  24. I can not recommend Manhatta for the views alone enough. I know they have a brunch. Even just getting drinks at the bar will really show the city off.
  25. exactly. You won’t be missing out on anything great (although I’d personally be tempted to go to downtown Newark for Rodizio however with that security lines around American Thanksgiving I’d stay in the airport. I’ll be there on Friday. Wanderlust has good burgers. Just be prepared that cash (besides tipping curbside if that’s what you prefer, I always do that despite having Preferred Status) doesn’t exists in terminal C. Everything is on Ipads or self service and it’s all credit only.
