Figured it out!
-
Seems like you're right. Which would explain why the current issue is summer!

Only if you compare a hunter-gatherer living in a tropical paradise with a 21st century migrant laborer or sweatshop worker. T I don't think you're right. But again, we'd better not get sidetracked onto this, which means, please, let's drop this off-topic tangent now. I don't agree with your viewpoint, Fifi, in the sense that BSE is seemingly the result of feeding cow parts to cows, which I see as senseless, whereas eating raw milk cheese is the result of a process that does not seem senseless to me. Of course, that is a very subjective way of looking at things, but I'm suspicious of anyone who would claim to be truly objective.

Are you in Cobb County?
-
Seperti budak makan pisang (like a child eating a banana). That Malay expression is equivalent to "wet behind the ears." The best explanation I've gotten for why the child is eating a banana is that bananas are often the first food given to weaned kids.

Well, using the same logic, you could say there is certainly an overpopulation of dogs, and they even might be delicious (I wouldn't know.) Who cares if they're cute? You think geese are cute? Have you ever had a big cob hiss at you? As for an overpopulation of wild or stray dogs, I won't prejudge what I'd want done unless I experienced it. I suspect that if wild dog shit were on every square 2 inches of grass in every park, many people would want to do something about it.

I don't get many drunk schmucks buzzing me, only occasionally.

I don't think a chain is nearly good enough. A chain doesn't protect you against a gun, for example. My folks' apartment had a chain while I was growing up, and I never used it. I always looked through the peep hole and opened the door only if I knew who was outside. Unfortunately, I don't have a functioning peep hole in my apartment.

Comfort Me, I take it your son enjoys the food in those high end places. Seems like an unusual 6-year-old, and yes, clearly he belongs in those restaurants.
-
Naomi, you should post the name of the restaurant in the appropriate board if you haven't already done so. That way, some people could be spared the experience your brother and dad had. (Though if and when you do post the name of the restaurant, make sure to follow the practice of admitting up-front that you don't have proof their food poisoned you, since that could be actionable as "defamation.")

You got it, Tryska. When I'm expecting a delivery of food, I buzz the guy in but since I'm on the 2nd floor, I get to see who's coming with enough time to slam the door and lock it if it should end up being someone other than the delivery person.

R, I think we'd better not get sidetracked into talking about things like the percentage of leisure time hunter-gatherers have (and presumably had prior to the Agricultural Revolution) vs. us "civilized" post-modern people. As for life expectancy, a lot of that has to do with better nutrition in the last 100 years or so, which is on-topic for this site, but perhaps not really on-topic for this thread.

Eggs? Because of salmonella?

Yes, the rest of our cows are just surly Seriously, yes, we had one instance of mad cow here a while back which resulted in the US banning all Canadian beef. Note we did not do the same to the US during your recent mad cow experience, which of course, they are now claiming came from Canada Amazing. And yes, I did note that. Canada is way underappreciated in the U.S., but that's all I'll say in this thread, since there's the other one to talk about news.

Thanks, Craig.

Mabelline: Seriously, I would email the company. They may not do what you want, but you're likely to get a courteous reply from them, and possibly even a coupon or something.

Thanks for the interesting description of the area you live in, Helen. Which Muslim countries seem to be most represented among the illegal aliens? (I'm guessing Bangladesh and perhaps Indonesia?) Are there some local halal butchers, or what other kinds of shops are serving the Muslim residents of the area? -
I was treated very nicely in Canada. Then again, I also find that most New Yorkers are fine, and I've lived here most of my life. There are few places where I didn't find that most people were polite, and I didn't hang out very long in the exceptions!

Here's another: I'm so hungry, I could eat a horse!

Meaning? Some of you have to translate your regional expressions for us Northeasterners. And Sconz, I've never heard "Lettuce alone without dressing," but I figure I know what it means - maybe sort of like the "One Meatball" in the song of the same name (with no potatoes, no tomatoes, and no bread).

Good God, 250 cups of coffee! That puts it into perspective!

I second that, Gabe. A very good place to start.
