  1. I'm not quite sure what to make of that. I actually knida like their burritos but its not as if this is some little place that is struggling for support.
  2. And of course chains make some suburbanites want to beat their heads against the wall.
  3. As I said above - I really like the shape of the handle of the Shun - it looks like that will be a big difference between the two.
  4. But wouldn't he call it Gabbagool? You can bet that there is none of this foolishness at Satriale's.
  5. They better get it on soon or Martha might end up using some homemade shank made out of a toothbrush.
  6. That's not saying much.
  7. And in a similar vein from today's Washington Post - Chefs Repackage Takeout Chicken See "The Results" on the right of that page for their presentations.
  8. I recieved two Kershaw Shun knives from my wife for Christmas (Spurred on by the knife-a-holic thread - thanks guys). 10 inch (or about that) chefs and a paring knife. My wife has smallish hands and wanted a knife that she feels comfortable using (she is not the cook around our house, but wants to learn knife skils) so she bought herself the santouko. I have never liked santouko style knives myself, but this has become the knife I grab out of the rack as opposed to the 10 inch. It is really sharp and I love the handles on all three.
  9. Heather - Johnny Rockets is a good one. Isn't the one at Pentagon City a little closer than that for you? Also there is a Roy's in Leesburg, but that IS far for you.
  10. Oh - and Fatburger. I can't remember what I used to get there when I worked across the street from one, but I did really like that burger.
  11. My favorite of the biggies is the Big Bacon Classic from Wendy's. And the Sausage Biscuits from McDs. And I too miss my hungover Sundays with a McDLT, large fries and a Large Coke. The combination of the sandwich and salt and the thick straws and the sugar and caffeine from the Coke were better than four Tylenol the morning after. On the smaller chain level, I would go with a double cheeseburger from Steak and Shake or a regular roast beef sandwich from Lion's Choice with Horseradish and BBQ sauce. Its nice to see a thread on here that isn't slamming fast food. Sometimes I get the sense that I am the only one around here who actually occasionally enjoys salt and grease with lots of Ketchup.
  12. Welcome back.
  13. That reminds me of the scene in the John Cusack movie Better off Dead where his mother serves the French Exchange Student foods from home: Frahnch Fries, Frahnch Toast and Franch Dressing.
  14. My two recs were going to be Addies and Lebanese Taverna, but I wasn't fast enough on the draw. Aren't there some good dim sum places up there - A & J.
  15. Not that I'm aware of - but the did say he would review the preparation of the possible dishes to try to avoid it again.
  16. Isn't there some sort of eGullet policy on that? Something having to do with libel or liability or some such thing?
  17. More than likley you may have just suffered from what many of us who have posted previously have experienced. You went into it expecting to see the Holy Grail, to have an earth moving, mind expanding experience. Instead you had what we all should have expected - a great meal, nothing more, nothing less.
  18. Edit - Never mind. I must not be awake this morning.
  19. Of course. You're the same person. Right - but he doesn't always agree with himself.
  20. I did hear back from the chef - he was very apologetic, said he looked at the preparation of all the dishes to avoid any problems and wanted contact info for everyone affected so he could personally apologize. The exact right response - IMO.
  21. That was the initial reaction of two people (drinks - not food) - until they got the other reports.
  22. Actually - I'm sure I will go back. We have had several very good meals there in the past and I figure this would be a one time issue. In fact the meal in question was great - aside from this slight problem and some slightly undercooked risotto (not the culprit - not everyone ordered the risotto). Thanks to everyone for the advice - I did just send the chef an e-mail detailing the issues.
  23. We all got sick about 7 hours after the meal started. I know there are other factors involved and I am not looking to "get anything" out of it. I guess I was curious if a chef and or restaurant finds this helpful or not.
  24. I was at a recent dinner at a very nice restaurant that I have been to a number of times with a dozen people and at least five of us suffered various forms and levels of intestinal distress in the next few hours after. The culprit is likely to have been one of three things that everyone at the table shared. My question is - should I let the chef (who I have gotten to know through my visits there) know what happened? I don't want to come off as being accusatory - I understand that these things happen sometimes. The food was, for the most part, very good. My interest is more in letting them know about it so any other problems could be avoided.
  25. Thanks for the input. Its a place I have always been meaning to go, but there are just too many places to try. Why is that all you'll say? Tell us more. That's why we're here.
