I think using a dark sheet pan helps too although I'm not sure why. Made it in a glass pan this weekend and it wasn't as good.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to try to make it tonight as Varmit suggested with just some EVOO and grated parmesan. I'll let you know how it comes out.

Tried it, loved it and I hate all the other "flavored" coke or pepsi.

Excellent pictures. It looks like everyone had a great time. Question for Random Alias- how did toasting the penne effect it's texture/flavor? Thanks.

David Sedaris is one of my favorite writers. I'm telling you, I have laughed myself out of a depression by reading his books. Yup, he's invited for dinner but I'll have to think about the other three.

Yes, I'm not looking forward to this chore tomorrow. My oven was self-cleaning until 6 months ago when it got stuck in "cleaning mode" and remained locked after the cycle was completed. I was having a little party that night and needed the oven so I pried it open with a screwdriver. Now, big suprise, the locking thingy is broken and the self-cleaning thing won't work. A real shame because I didn't add enough cornmeal to the pizza peal and instead of sliding nicely onto the stone, it got stuck and fell onto the bottom of the oven.

Lots of kids here tonight so I made macaroni and cheese with a side of broccoli. One of the kids told me that he thought mac & cheese only came in a box! For desert I made chocolate pudding- first time I ever tried it but so easy and good. Would have had whipped cream but the cream had gone bad.

Oh, yes, my friend, there is such an animal and it lives in a big-ass tray in my refrigerator.

I have tried Pam in desperation but it gives the sandwich a greasy taste IMO. My grilled cheese of the day was on 7 grain bread with velveeta and sprouts. God I feel healthy!

It was the best lasagna I ever made. Everyone loved it and loved me for bringing it. Life was good. Now, I can't seem to recreate the lasagna. As usual, I didn't write down the exact measurements. I know what all the ingredients were but for some reason it just doesn't taste as good as the first time I made it. Has this ever happened to anyone else?

I'm also a collecter of vintage cookbooks. The most recent one I picked up is "Dr. Chase's recipes or information for Everyone" copyright 1900. This book has everything in it from recipes, to medical advice-including tests to use to make sure someone is really dead!, to shoe making. It is a huge, old, smelly book that I found underneath a bunch of newspapers at a yard sale on my way to ME. this summer. Here are a couple of interesting hints from the book: To keep milk sweet- A spoonful of grated horseradish in the pan will keep it for several days. -To aid digestion salt must always be eaten with nuts. A recipe for Beef Tea- Cut a pound of fleshy beef in thin slices: simmer with a quart of water twenty minutes, after it has once boiled, and been skimmed. Season, if approved.

Cheap white bread, velveeta cheese, butter, and a small pan. Melt the butter and throw that sandwich in there. Flip it over right away and mash it down with a spatula until the bottom is brown- flip it over again and brown the other side. Serve with tomato soup and Ritz crackers. Mix up a big glass of orange Tang and life is good!

Yup, this sums up how I feel about the whole thing.

Poor unloved tofu- sob.........

In my house it's always a success if no one gets sick. I made black bean chili from the "Green's" cookbook. I cheated by using already ground ingredients instead of roasting my own but this chili was awesome- if I do say so myself. With this we had rice and an avacado and tomato salad. Btw, watched the whole half-time show and never noticed anything "out of place". You guys have good eyes!

Any type of seaweed cheap beer margarine

Has anyone mentioned suger and butter sandwiches made with wonderbread? A specialty of the house when I was growing up! Served with Tang. No wonder we were such hyper brats.
-
Steak- um's are some ultra-thin frozen meat product. My sisters used to eat it on wonder bread with mustard.
-
I would just dump some more of what ever is in there already, beans, veggies, whatever, just to be on the safe side because it may not mellow out. I frequently make things too hot. My husbands favorite (and it's getting old honey) joke is: "would any one like lip salve with their meal?".

McSorley's Ale- "brewed with Irish spirit" and quite reasonably priced!
-
Could this be made with vegetable stock and still be good? French onion soup used to be one of my favorites.
-
Our local place makes General Tso's tofu and it is very, very, yummy! I guess one of his relatives was a vegetarian.

I actually have fresh basil in my fridge and I still might hope on a plane to get over there! Btw: what breeds of dogs do you have? It's hard to see in the picture. Do you ever cook for them?

I got my sister a salt mill for Christmas and she loves it. I only wish I had bought one for myself too.
