  1. M.F.K. Fisher's "The Art of Eating." gooooood stuff.
  2. "canadian coffee:" canadian whiskey, coffee, and maple syrup. i like freshly whipped cream on top. it "helps" me study quite often these days....
  3. i love these. the anise flavor is awesome. the idea of putting sprinkles on bread is so nice to me.
  4. There is nothing in my kitchen. Seriously, I have five beers, one yellow onion, and a little bit of Tilamook sharp cheddar cheese. That's pretty embarrassing.
  5. Sis, sis, sis o' mine, you are the bomb diggety.... The shizzle.... I can vouch for this massive consumption of food and liquor; I was there to partake in the majority. Nero, we await the report on the wedding.
  6. The other night after lotsa drinking we went to Denny's. My friend kept asking the waitress for more rum in her coke. Thankfully, she doesn't remember this. P.S. Bologna Bowls. Word.
  7. Where? I would guess it's not illegal, but there are some restaurants in this area (West Michigan) that won't serve rare beef. Two weeks ago, while visiting Saugatuk, the restaurant we were at wouldn't serve hamburger any less cooked than medium. I assume that's a managerial decision as opposed to law.
  8. I wonder how much it is for 3 watermelons????
  9. Great pictures! I LOVE the watermelon sign-- it made me laugh out loud.
  10. Does anyone else think the best costume winner looks sort of like Tim Curry? Am I totally crazy?
  11. Bagels and cream cheese. Ice cream. My mom's pork chops and scalloped potatoes.
  12. Yeah, but I took a good-sized bite. And it certainly wasn't any lack of quality on the bean burrito's part that caused me to stop eating-- my stomach was still full of sausage pizza.

    Salads

When I was in Rennes, France, the guy that I lived with used to make a cold rice salad all the time, and it was pretty tasty. When your rice is nice and cold, mix it with some good-quality canned tuna, diced tomatoes, corn, chopped red pepper, lotsa s & p, oil and vinegar. I guess this salad is pretty common in Brittany in the summertime, I also saw it served with peeled and diced cucumbers and even avocado; it's obviously pretty versatile. I liked it.... but then again, I'm nothing but a tourist.
  14. Toasted sesame seed bagel with extra crunchy peanut butter and black raspberry jam. Coffee. I think I'll have a glass of milk, for a change.

    Summer beer

Bells Oberon. Brewed in good ole Kalamazoo, MI.
  17. Egg salad with fresh tarragon on sourdough baguette. Tomato slices. Water. I never used to eat egg salad when I was little cause' I thought the other kids would make fun of me for eating "smelly" food. I thought that about tuna salad too. Now I love both, and I don't care if I'm stinky.
  18. After reading this thread earlier on this afternoon, I was struck by the need for a Blizzard. Ten minutes before the nearest DQ closed, I finally convinced my mom to go with me to get one-- she got Heath bar, I got Snickers. It was awesome.
  19. A bowl of fresh blueberries, pineapple, and green grapes. In a couple minutes I'm going to eat some chocolate chips. It's the only choc. in the house. And I'm too lazy to make cookies.
  20. I don't have anything of intelligence to add to Nero's post, but I want to say that I thoroughly (!!) enjoyed this meal. We had two servers for our small party, which I thought was nice. One took care of drinks (suggesting cocktails, wines) and refilling water glasses, the other focused a bit more on food-- explaining the menu, taking food orders... I didn't find the decor over the top, like Nero did. I thought it worked well with the food they serve. Our table was quite close to the chef and cooks. Sis and I enjoyed seeing the action, but I'm sure a private room would've been a nice (albeit different) experience as well. So yes... going back would be great. Has anyone been to Gioco, across the street? Same owner.... **Fritz
