  1. Sounds like a wonderful menu. I'll be on my way to Charlotte for my nephew's baptism. I'll wave as I pass Raleigh on I-85.
  2. Where is Charlie's, otello?
  3. Once-A-Month Cooking : A Proven System for Spending Less Time in the Kitchen and Enjoying Delicious, Homemade Meals Everyday Horrible, horrible food made from bad ingredients.
  4. Four, if you count mine earlier, and still nothing to do with the government. Nice butt, Mike.

    Dinner! 2004

Mediterranean Sausage Ragout, from this month's Fine Cooking: sweet Italian sausage, onion, minced garlic & ginger, sliced carrots, paprika, cinnamon, ground coriander, chile flakes, chicken broth, tomato sauce and chick peas. Delicious. Both kids hated it. Served over white corn polenta with EVOO, with steamed broccoli alongside. Ice cream for dessert, unless I can convince Scott to bake some chocolate chip cookies tonight.
  6. That would give you less open floor space in the kitchen though. Isn't the idea to open up the floor plan a little - create some open space? This thread is giving me lots of good ideas, since we'll have just about the opposite of your problems, Dean. Our new kitchen has a 6 ft. galley with a large breakfast area - lots of open space, no storage, and sucky appliances.

    Quick Pasta

After an unpleasant encounter with Prego, I learned to read the labels before purchase. It never occured to me that something labeled pasta sauce would have sugar in it. Any brand that lists sugar or corn syrup goes back on the shelf.
  8. The Rockville Market has no meat vendor at all. It would be great to get one. The market isn't year-round though, it runs June - October.
  9. OK, that bypasses rude and goes right to disgusting. I usually sample, and frequently buy what I've sampled - which is the point of putting them out, right?
  10. Our current fave is sauteed red pepper, crumbled goat cheese, nicoise olives, fresh thyme, and BACON. No sauce.
  11. We have Corian, with an integrated Corian sink. Initially we loved it. It certainly looks great. However, over time we've come to dislike it - no way will we have Corian in our new house. You can't cut on it, you can't put hot pans on it, and the white sink stains terribly. It costs a fortune too.
  12. I finally opened the can of dulce de leche that I bought on a while a few weeks ago, and had some warmed and poured over vanilla ice cream with chopped almonds. It was much less sweet than expected.
  13. That was cool, Joe. Where did you go for subs in Wheaton? Was Marchone's in the Triangle yet? I really need to cook up an errand in Wheaton and get a Marchone's sandwich.
  14. Hey Bob, I mentioned it it back in July... I love the Quarryhouse, and it's still there as far as I know. There was a time when we'd go every Friday night. It was almost all regulars because no one else could even find the place.
  15. Hey, I was there for lunch today too! That sandwich is the special every Friday, and it's delish. The cheesesteak is good too but a little underseasoned.
  16. I'd love to, but I have to warn you that fresco does all my demolition, and he's really expensive. But I'd be happy to undo Heather's kitchen. Thanks guys.
  17. Dave, you're amazing. Can you do my new kitchen too?
  18. From now on I am not going to flatten cutlets with a meat mallet while holding the cutting board with my other hand. Wham! @#$%^&!!!
  19. You poor little thing! I always loved Farrells for ice cream. There was one in Wheaton Plaza, back when it was a plaza and not a mall. Any others in the area? It was a national chain; they had them in California when we lived there in the 70s. If you went on your birthday you got a free sundae. Shakey's. Wow. I hadn't thought about it for years. Pizza and pitchers of rootbeer, and old-timey piano music.
  20. My husband (raised in New Orleans) says poeboy. No pause between the two syllables. You should have seen the look on his face when I described the "poo-boy" pronunciation.
  21. $2500 should get a lot of rangetop. We got a floor model Thermador for $900 - lots less than the reg price. And a floor model Kitchenaid dishwasher for 50% off too.
  22. Is that the place with the burger takeout downstairs and the pub upstairs? I worked at the Kennedy Center for a few years and ate there all the time. Always got the mushroom/A-1 burger - the "Robert."
  23. Dean does you sink amount include a new faucet? Our Grohe (which I love) and soap dispenser tacked $500 onto our budget.
