  1. More tongue for you then. It's a pretty arbitrary line, but I don't cross it. Other than that I am willing to let Bob make some suggestions.
  2. ← What's the deal? If it's child care - no way. Even eating tongue is better than dealing with my 3-year-old these days.
  3. I'd prefer to order a la carte. Tongue is not high on my list of favorite things.
  4. Do you mean Pomfret? ← That would make much more sense. I believe the menu does say "pamphlet" though.
  5. I eat with my fingers whenever possible at home. I have to watch myself when dining at friend's houses so I don't forget and absentmindedly pick things up with my hands. Ice cream with a teaspoon, cereal with a soup spoon. Not sure why.
  6. Oh, piss off. I'm usually a gin gal, but emotional emergencies call for something sweet, like bourbon. And something caloric without a lot of prep, because I tend to cut myself when my attention isn't fully on task. Steak, cheeseburgers, ice cream, loaded baked potatoes... Edited to add chocolate, and pie.
  7. Foreigner is never appropriate. Can anyone tell me what "Sweet & Sour Pamphlet" might be? I am envisioning something like Thomas Paine's Common Sense, in sauce.
  8. If it's something routine like a weekday meal, I try to be as fast as possible. If it's an complicated project or I'm cooking with friends, I'm singing along to music, drinking and chatting. Things don't get done nearly as quickly.
  9. Thanks for the tip. I have to drive to G'burg tomorrow and fork over some bucks for new shoes for the kids. Some good chicken might ease the sting.
  10. I don't think Jack was trying to be snotty, merely discussing a perceived cultural difference. He also came out resolutely against frou-frou 20 course tasting menus, after all.
  11. Why, this is exactly what's for dinner at my house tonight, but without the chips or fries. Mom and Dad are going out, and it's a meal that the sitter can easily prepare, and the kids will eat with no fuss. A life without hot dogs would be tolerable as long as I never attended another baseball game for the rest of my life. The association is too strong. And the aforementioned fish and chips. And what of Asian street food? Almost every Thai cookbook I have has a seperate section for street food.
  12. It's always available at the Thai Market on Thayer in Silver Spring, and I see it occasionally at Whole Foods.
  13. Nice to see you, Ivan. I'm sure they would manage - or just order pasta.
  14. I'd pick Mario Batali and Michael Stipe, but only if they hold hands through the meal.
  15. Thanks for organizing this, Pontormo! Here is my first post about Bob's Noodle 66.
  16. Count me as one who doesn't much care, but at every cheese tasting I've attended white or fortified wines and beer are always recommended over red. Fortified wine is a good choice. Most people serve whites before reds during dinner. If cheese is served after dinner port is a more natural follow up to a big red than switching back to white wine.
  17. Oh my God that is hilarious. I once stopped dating a guy because he never ate vegetables. He was so irritating to cook for that I knew the relationship would never go anywhere.
  18. Just made this with vanilla sugar. Delicious! Edit to say I also used a little ground cloves, and it's really good on plain yogurt.
  19. Yes, that's the one. I usually use crescent rolls. Thanks - what a great idea. I will use this at camp in the spring. Heather Shorter - Brownie Leader.
  20. We will be in London for a week in July and St John is first on our list of places to try. How far in advance do we need to book?
  21. Chicken's on sale this week, so: Poulet en Cocotte Bon Femme Fricassee de Poulet A L'Ancienne both from Mastering the Art I've also made Gratin de Poireaux, Meatloaf, Navy Bean soup, and macaroni & cheese. I've got to get all of this out of my system before winter's over.
  22. Pigs in blankets. Hot dogs in appetizer form. Do Boy Scouts eat s'mores or is that a Girl Scout thing? PS: Big congratulations to your son.
  23. I've added Cooking of Southwest France, Charcuterie, and Tapas (by Jose Andres).
  24. Can't believe I missed this thread the first time around. Food For Thought was without a doubt the worst food in DC, with the exception of the pizza they served at the old 9:30 club. That pizza was so bad that I have never once been tempted to try the expanded menu at the new club.
