    Dinner 2022

Such a great title for the next best selling cookbook.
  2. Thanks. I guess I should’ve spent a little more time thinking about this. I would have concluded that of course they had to be bled. But my mind went elsewhere. So then I googled how much blood in an average duck. Not so easy to find. But I extrapolated to about 200 to 250 mL. Close?

Such an amazing photograph. I know, I know I should be admiring thesoup, but I can’t get past the photograph. .

    Baked Potatoes

Having given it a fair shake, I have to say I will return to my normal baking method. This time I oiled the skin and rubbed it with salt and baked for 2 1/2 hours @ 400 degrees Fahrenheit in the Breville oven. The skin was at once crispy and tough. Not at all pleasant to eat. The potato might have picked up a little more flavor, but not enough to warrant the energy needed (mine and that of the oven). I was open to an epiphany, but I never got it. Perhaps I should have been on the road to Damascus but in 2022 that sounds a bit risky. Oh well.

    Breakfast 2022

They may not count as breakfast, but they are probably adequate to meet the need of taking medication with food. Check with your doctor or pharmacist but when I have asked, I’ve been told a few crackers, a cookie or two, or even a glass of milk is usually enough.

That was easy for him – – he got them as a gift. What did you expect him to say to a gift?😂😂😂😂

That is likely from amazon.com. amazon.ca is over $10. Even $5.41 USF/$7.43 CDN seems outrageous for a bowl of instant noodles.
  8. Good? Most of us would settle for edible. But why shouldn’t hospital food be good? There was a time when it certainly was at least in my experience. Not everyone has the means to ensure an adequate intake of food when hospitalized, perhaps far from home or when they are elderly and have a little or no family left. 2 to 3 days in the hospital most of us can tolerate but when it becomes weeks and perhaps months… As someone else has noted, food in the hospital serves much more than just nutritional needs. In a long often boring day punctuated only by unpleasant procedures, meal time is something of an oasis. There is no reason it couldn’t be made much better than it is in most hospitals now.

    So simple. So good.

But I could get it tomorrow! There’s that. 😂

My bank account would allow it, but I’m not sure my conscience would go along with +$10 for a bowl of instant noodles.
  12. So did I initially, but it didn’t take long for it to become a depressant. I had no desire to read the book or to watch the movie. Nevertheless, I can recognize it as an amazing feat.
  13. I considered it years ago, but in a similar vein to @blue_dolphin there were always recipes using ingredients that I would never allow in my house. I have nothing but admiration for @liamsauntcooking her way through a year of Fine Cooking. That only one recipe survived from this exercise startles me.

    Baked Potatoes

An interesting approach. I shall be following closely. My second potato is still pricking my conscience as it sits on the counter. I am dithering as to what I should try. I am thinking oiled and baked for three hours at 400° in the Breville.

One of my all-time favourites. Was never successful making them at home, but had a number at a restaurant in Toronto. It’s quite terrible that you keep that family of yours on the brink of starvation.
  16. @liuzhou Thanks. Intriguing. Most of the time when I used to cook duck I would find a liver included. It quickly became the cook’s treat. Sautéed in a bit of butter, seasoned and scarfed right at the stove.

    Breakfast 2022

Sometimes you are driven by guilt to eat your mistakes for breakfast! Shopping online for groceries remains more of an adventure than I would wish. From scallions so skinny they might have been planted yesterday to baking potatoes so ginormous that each would serve four with leftovers, nary a grocery shopping goes by without a glitch. I ordered what I thought were frozen broccoli florettes. They would sit in the freezer until I was ready to add them to dinner, I thought. But what arrived was a rather tiny plastic bag containing tiny “fresh” broccoli florettes. I estimated their lifespan to be already closer to the end than the beginning. Most likely trimmed from whole broccoli stems to improve their optics. So breakfast was steamed broccoli with cheese. There are worse things.
  18. I know you said you would leave the meat for another post, but what about the liver? The kidneys?

    Air Fryers

One of the major differences as far as I can see, is that in the pod type air fryer the fan blows down on the food and is very close to the food. In most convection ovens that I have seen the fan is in the rear wall. The air current from the fan is much more diffused.
  20. You just need a new set of friends of any origin! I am fortunate to be frequently blessed with unexpected food gifts. I unfortunately lost track of my Chinese friends many years ago.

My French is sufficient to understand this. However, curiosity drove me to look it up. Surely it says something about where we are when the one and only result that was returned was a reference to a 1985 crime film called Cop Au Vin. Never mind.
  22. Thanks for this. I had a whole bunch of questions, but I see that they have already been answered. Presumably, they are gutted. Is there any part of a snake that is considered inedible? Cobra hood perhaps?
