International Aisles or Shelves in Grocery Stores

Well in one of our grocery chains the coconut milk is in the aisle with the drink mixes! Coconut cream? Coconut milk? What the hell? -
Wish I could discipline myself to do this. It would be a bit challenging now that I must rely on others to do my grocery shopping but not impossible. If I thought I could make meals like yours I would give it a lot more effort!

I could manage to ignore the chickpeas if I were gnawing on a couple of those lamb chops!

I will have to up my game or I will bore even myself. But first I will need to put in an order for some groceries. So tonight it’s the same old same old more or less. To ease @rotuts fears, the Spam was the reduced sodium kind because they didn’t have the real McCoy in stock. served with some of my favourite brown sauce (HP) on the side.

If it wasn’t for those chickpeas…… This would be close to perfection.

I shall be most interested to hear what you think of this book. I am trying to rebuild my very badly damaged bank account else I might’ve bought it!

International Aisles or Shelves in Grocery Stores

It makes more sense to me to group things according to the cuisine. So for instance the soy sauce, the mirin, the dashi powder and even the sake, where allowed, should cosy up to one another on the shelves as they do in the dishes where they are used. I would hate to check four or five aisles to find all of these ingredients. As a sidenote at least one of our Asian grocery stores segregates according to country. There is a Filipino section and a Japanese section and a Korean section but there’s no section called Western or European or Chinese. The Chinese can be explained in that what isn’t labelled otherwise is Chinese since it is run by Chinese people! Should I picket them and insist that there be something labelled Western?😂 -

I would never have thought of that. Thank you.

How about popping the tomatoes into Asian pear sleeves and then into pantyhose and tie the ends. The tomato snake can then nestled into a hard sided container. I dare you to do this in New York City and not get laughed out of existence. But I bet it would work. 😂😂😂 Edited to add: it is best if you step out of the pantyhose before attempting this.

Hell! I would’ve licked it clean had I been there.

Fabulous blog. Please send some of those scalloped potatoes my way. Can’t wait for your next one.

Breakfast from the box. First some skillet toast. Then when it reached an appropriate degree of doneness I turned it over and added some rinsed, canned salad shrimp. Then I turned down the heat (this thing is amazingly responsive, but of course it is induction) and scrambled a duck egg. it’s a bit like having a mini flat top.

I am no linguist but my understanding is that yaki can mean grilled, roasted or cooked. I have to guess that context makes the difference. I believe @liuzhou is a linguist but that doesn’t mean that he is fluent in Japanese or can translate one language to the other In this case. But there are enough people around that I’m sure somebody will pop in and tell us what yaki means.

Tried both. Just don’t get it. But then I don’t get caviar, foie gras, or truffles.

I really tried to like Lebanon bologna when we were down in Lancaster but I just can’t do it.

I do like mortadella although I’ve never had the Italian kind.

Thanks. Sometimes I think I’m just talking to the wind so it’s nice to know I’m amusing somebody! Edited to add I am looking at, studying and weighing up recipes/methods for making takoyaki although it won’t be tako because I’m not going to find any octopus around here but there’s a very legitimate ebiyaki (shrimp) I understand. But I admit to being quite intimidated by the whole procedure. Pumping up my courage.

Not going to apologize. It’s my toy. It’s my morning. And it’s my breakfast.😂 I wanted to fry an egg in one of the hollows of this plate. But I also wanted to fry up some pepperoni. The ideal configuration is not available – – that would be one or two hollows/cups and the remainder a flat griddle. But I wasn’t prepared to dirty another pan just for a few slices of pepperoni. So in they went. Egg and pepperoni onigirazu. As I suspected, the perfect sized egg to fit my rice sandwich.

Almost but not quite. At first I believed it was fitting Then closer examination shows that it is hung up on the tracks for the shelf. I tried using it as a shelf but again it is just a tad too short so that it is unsafe and will not remain in place. So the final answer is no it will not fit.

I bet I could’ve done that but I didn’t.

Between you and Chum I am totally exhausted and that’s just reading about what you’re both up to.

Nope. The broiling took place in the Cuisinart steam oven.

Onions and mushrooms sautéed in the Box, piled onto a toasted English muffin, showered with some grated cheddar and broiled until the cheese melted. Nothing missing in the umami department!

Maybe @Kerry Beal will be up for it. I’ve never seen her turn down a challenge.
