  1. I just could not stand the anticipation I tried another can : this is made w Wickson Crab apples . 7.4 % EtOH Im not a good descriptor of flavor , ie Vanilla is , well vanilla. ( the good stuff ) this is Crab Apple. if youve tasted ripe crab apples , its righ there or crab apple jam , but not sweet , right here it is very nice. hopefully the last can today. what a very nice find., all these are
  2. Im placing this here , as its a Discovery and a Trip. a very short trip , 1.5 towns over. https://www.stormalong.com/ I discovered some of these Ciders @ TotalWine very recently. they have been in business 10 years or so , and are almost in my backyard. along with https://jacksabby.com/ , one town west home of the delicious Hoponius Unioon Im really set for Local cider // beer. I programed into the ' GPS Display ' the address. I would have never found the place otherwise. In MA there is the TurnPike ( AKA ' Pike' ) its a highway that charges tolls , even though its been paid for many times over. Its my understanding the tools support distant relatives 3d cousins , 4th nephews etc relate to the various Finance Committees of Mass.Gov. youdont take that here : you take this : this is a bit of the better stretch. you get here that's all there is . the cider is made in Leominster , not here no hours , no phone . but the very pleasant fellow i met said there might be some one here , most days , early afternoon Inside : they have it seems versions that are available at TJ's, mentioned before , and Total Wine. those come from more common local ( MA ) apples . Ive posed a few Ive tried. they also have here , versions from more rare apples , harvested in smaller quantities. they have dryish and mid- sweet range of each . they make versions , that are not really different than the main stream exclusively for CT. , from the common apples . different can is all they also make apple berry blends , blueberry , cherry etc they sell in N.E. , and NYC. I asked about that for @weinoo the fellow was not sure , but though NYC TJ's had berry versions , etc but the TW items were also sold in various liquor marts. they also sell in Chicago. so I was pointed to the rare apples , sold at Farmers Markets not TJ's nor TW don't get me wrong ,the stuff @ TW , based on your ' dryness preference is excellent. I got 24 cans , 6 sets of four : decided to try today , so far : this is a dry cider aged in whisky barrels for 10 months. EtOH 8.3 % dry , pleasantly tart , noticeable char and whisky aroma right off the bat. subtle , but right there. delicious . @Duvel would be all over this. these versions are a bit pricier , being limited editions w rare'er apples . 24 cans cost me ~ $ 3.00 a can . maybe a bit less . most cans are 12 oz , two ro so 16 oz. what a wonderful find for me. although you might not be able to get those versions if you live in NE , CT or NYC try some , noting the dryness level on the back. not only did AAPL go up a bit in the last few days ( I own a handful of shares ( and this post is brought to you on an iMac I get to drink Apple Cider day to day ! Ill post the other 5 here as I try them. Cheers !
  3. if this thin TJ's vanilla wafer were used for communion wafers they would ' Pack the House ' any denomination what so ever . you could make one up ,
  4. @weinoo don't know about TJ's NYC , re : prices . Id find out if your Local has ' yellow ' tags for exclusives ( cheaper ) and ' white tags re ' more expensive that Total Whine . look for the HH , id say , but it might be a NE item ? one nice thing about Stormalongs : on the back of the can there is an indicator of Dry // Sweet : they mention the apple types , but please who remembers what a Baldwin apple taste like ? and their description : leave a lot to new desires : mo oak whatsoever . apparently , the place is very near to me this one: https://www.stormalong.com/cider/mass-appeal was a bit sweet . however , ice cold , w a bit of added selzer to cut the sweetness , one of those little umbrellas a small plastic ' sword ' w stabbed pineapple , cherries , mango etc on a hot humid day : would do very nicely. https://www.stormalong.com/ is very near me OIll have to stop by. take some pic. etc
  5. Ive been looking into hard cider recently , and have come up w some refreshing results , both at Totl Wine and Trader Joes. TJ's has a yellow label system for items exclusive to them , and a white label for non-exclusive items. the white label items are usually cheaper @ totalWine. Tj's is excellent . dry , but not bone Sahara dry. $ 9.99 12 12 Tj's also have Stormalong , 12.99 4 cans the same at Total wine 11.99 https://www.totalwine.com/search/all?text=stormalong this is dryer , and quite crisp. tried this from TW today : this is very dry and quite tart . for some reason @ TW $ 9,99 4 cans this is very interesting . its unfiltered , and resembles cider you purchased at an orchard that you then let ferment at room temp , to your desired dryness . thus , you might enjoy the orchards best , w some sweetness , by refrigerating before the natural yeast give up and die. this version has a little sweetness left to it. not too much , but not bone dry as I like the natural orchard stuff. there are many more brands in my area than there were 5 0r so years ago . one brand , Angry Orchard I don't care for at all . it taste a bit soapy to me. so TJ's exclusive for most of the time , and an occasional storm along , but from TW mot TJ's
  6. also this AM @ TJ's spotted this : salted and spiced calamari is one of my very favorite dished in Chinatown. used the sir fryer , from frozen : plated dip was mayo and a good portion go green tabasco . these were crispy , batter not too thick but a bit chewy. in Cginese restaurants thy end up w a bit thinner better , and very tender , guess that' a good thing , or Id have these twice a dat.! Ill try the other 1/2 pack in a pre-heated AF. I use the AF with a cold (room temp ) start. either way Ill have them again. just as well they turned out this way or there would be big trouble here.
  7. Went to TJ's this AM. they were out of the sourdough rye cris. but they had these : enabled by @Maison Rustique, I snapped up pack. they are delicious. they remind me of the cookie Lorna Doone's : but thin and crispy. dangerous items to have around.

@BeeZee the TJ's smoked trout is quite nice . hopefully , you have tried the canned lightly smoked salmon nicely complementary to the trout.
  9. odder then odd. what does it mean the spices can be individualized during the buying process ?' so , the idea is : on your Smart Phone , ( iPhone , please _) the is a Spice App , while in front of the Spice Rack you select ' oregano ' and the jar of oregano ' light up ? somebody had been hitting The Dispensary too often Id think.
  10. impressive price .
  11. APO seems to have many problems . for that amount of money , Id be very cautious. look for a CSO , if you can find one. a shame they stopped making them.
  12. @lemniscate ill look for them salty ?
  13. @Kim Shook PL is lean , and thus might cook up on the dryer side if not careful. SV solves that problem , and will get you the tenderness you are looking for ( time related ) and the doneness you prefer ( bath temp related ) do the loin SV TL also works well SV do not over cook either 'conventionally. grilled rare TL , bit of quick char on the outside cooled , and sliced thinly makes a mighty fine sandwich.
  14. @snowangel looks sensational left-overs : Hash , sandwiches , inc. C.B. Dip C.B.eggs Benedict Vac and freeze in good sized chunks. use room temp for sandwiches.
  15. @FauxPas think of the savings if you keep there C.O.you have. you might be able to buy a scallop , or escallop and a half . if you are lucky.
  16. @weinoo congratulation on your fine work in Portland ME never had tautog . duck looks excellent. I personally enjoy eG'rs 'doing it right '
  17. @Maison Rustique trying the vanilla version next .

    Food recalls

This in the NYTimes, yesterday : https://www.nytimes.com/2024/06/10/well/live/fda-microdose-chocolate.html ''' t’s not clear why the bars might have sickened consumers. Diamond Shruumz has marketed the chocolates as “trippy little squares” and calls the chocolate a “microdose,” referring to a term for a small amount of a psychedelic. But the company has said the bars do not contain psychedelic substances, including psilocybin, the hallucinogenic drug found in so-called magic mushrooms. Instead, Diamond Shruumz says its products have “nootropic and functional mushrooms,” like Lion’s Mane, Reishi and Chaga mushrooms. ,,, '''' “Our initial belief is that it’s something else that truly isn’t psilocybin but close enough to give that effect, which is why it’s being marketed as a microdosing edible,” said Dr. Steven Dudley, director of the Arizona Poison and Drug Information Center. '' '''' Mushroom chocolates have grown more popular in recent years, as companies capitalize on a wealth of research around — and consumer interest in — psilocybin '''' ,,,, There is little regulatory oversight of these chocolates, which sometimes contain psilocybin or other compounds that can induce a psychedelic effect. And most of the products are not independently tested to confirm what they contain — which makes it all but impossible for consumers to know what they’re getting in a mushroom chocolate bar. ''' ,,,, “It really worries me from a public health standpoint: Trying to commercialize these with no regulation whatsoever means you might have all kinds of things being placed into these kinds of products,” ,,, ,,,, Some bars branded as “mushroom” chocolates may contain psilacetin, sometimes called 4-AcO-DMT, a compound that produces similar effects to psilocybin ,,, etc.
  19. its on the dry side , w a bit of sweetness , but not too much. TJ's also sells Stromalong : its a bit drier , quite tarty. 6 pack of HH's is 9.99 4 cans of the above is 11.99 stormalong ( at Total wine ) sells an un filtered , vey much like aging your own. @mgaretz where did you get those bangers ? Ive never had the type of banger here like the ones Ive had at B&B's all over GB and Ireland. Id love to find them these were finely ground a bit like weiswurst , but the light brown in color, rather than grey they were consistently the same all over GB. in B&B's
