Papaya - Ripe? Unripe? Help needed.

That papaya is not ripe. It should be orange/red all the way to the rind when ripe. When it is ripe, it will have lots more flavor. dcarch
  4. This just happened a minute ago. I was gardening outside, taking advantage that it was cloudy. All of a sudden, a big flash and an instantaneous gigantic blast. Based on the blast happened at the same time as the flash, I was probably not far from the thunder/lightning. I could have been deep fried with my tomatoes. When you are gardening, you are in a place where lightning strike happens most likely there. Warning! Google "lighting/thunder" and learn about the dangers and safety considerations. This year, 17 people have been killed already, not counting injuries. dcarch

First, you should get farmers market tomatoes, if you don't have your own garden tomatoes. Don't waste your time with store bought tomatoes. I sliced tomatoes to about 3/8" thick slices, then into the dehydrator (depending on your brand) for about 2 hours. Turn the slices over for another 2 hours. By that time the slices should be about 1/2 the original thickness, soft, tender, but not drippy, with twice the goodness for amazing BLTs. dcarch

Thanks! Yes, the bacon was specially "engineered" for BLTs. High density crispy bacon without taking up a lot of thickness, and square in shape for the sandwich bread. The tomato slices were also "engineered" for BLTs. They were 1/2 dehydrated to be twice as flavorful without dripping all over. dcarch

Thank you. ----------------------------------------------- Warning!! if you are using squash blossoms, be very careful to examine the inside of the blossoms outdoors. If you grow squashes, you probably notice that squash blossoms are very perfume-my and they attract a lot of bees. Half the time you will find bees and other insects inside. You don't want to get stung and have bees inside your home. Agree. Like heidih said. The key is to be very careful in the use of minimum and simple batter. Even so the extreme heat of frying does evaporate a great deal of the delicate fragrance that you can enjoy if you eat the blossom raw. dcarch

    Dinner 2018

Why fry squash blossoms? All you are tasting is mostly fried batter. It is too hot to cook and too hot to fry. So I made a salad, with squash blossoms stuffed with goat cheese. Wonderful floral fragrance if the blossoms are not cooked. Also, garden tomatoes with cold tofu. dcarch
