  1. yea go for it..it would be pretty cool to see if we could influence a products return. It would be easy enough for the company to do as they still make the other flavors of Krunchers. If we go for it, I will mention the e gullet effort in my column and maybe some readers will write in too! They appear to have very limited distribution - Chicago and the surrounding area. What we need to do is create a national clamor for both a product and brand-name most of the nation has never seen or heard of before. And not only bring the product back but compel a national roll-out. That would be cool.
  2. That's an lousy picture, no doubt, but I'd still say she's quite appealing from that photo alone. I'd be happy to have her scramble my eggs.
  3. Fink Bread is gone? When did it go out of business?
  4. Yes, NYC. I'm thinking about joining the Burger Club but I'd have to come out of my cave first and I'm not sure I'm ready to yet.

  6. Why do the cashiers do that? Were they taught to do that? Plus the receipt in the middle like a chinese puzzle torture, like Squeat mentions, making it even more difficult! What is the logic? I guess that it's supposed to expedite the transaction, but then it slows down and frustrates and confuses the customers (unless we are the few exceptions who fumble with this conglomeration.)
  7. Fink may be gone but at least there's Fink's Funky
  8. Where's the beef? Advertising Age lists this as one of the top 100 ad campaigns of the Century. And one of the top 10 slogans. I want my Maypo!
  9. That sounds really good! I'm going to have to write to them and implore or demand that they bring them back. And that they distribute them in NYC!
  10. I wonder if anyone got a reply from Krunchers...I think it would be cool to kinda freak out the staff there by sending a bunch of e mails...can you imagine them scratching thier heads going.....hhmmm...what brought this alfredo thing on...maybe we should bring it back. It would be a cool "experiment" to conduct and see the power of "e gullet".... The Zagat thing made me chuckle! Please someone describe the Alfredo taste. I'm intrinsically curious but also if I'm going to email and ask them to bring it back I wanna know what I'm asking for.
  11. Those are great photos! Thanks for sharing this! There are also photos of other edibles like Pocky and other packaged goods. Also vending machines, signage and lots of other neat stuff. What a find! This is most fascinating:
  12. Small chain stores and mom and pops often have shopping carts from major chains. Sometimes the names are spray-painted out (but still visible) but often not. I always wonder how they come into possession of these carts. Sometimes the chains themselves have carts from other chains and I wonder why there's not a standing reciprocal policy to pull them out immediately and return them to their rightful owners.
  13. Wow. Those jingles and taglines are son insidious that I'd swear it was only yesterday that I heard them all the last time. Of course some of them have been resurrected more recently, so it hasn't been that long ago for all of them.
  14. I just checked, it's "If you think it's butter, but it's not, it's Chiffon." It was the tag line for the Mother Nature ads.
  15. I did a search but I guess I didn't have the correct parameters because I either came up with too many irrelevant responses or nothing. I've read a fair amount about grinders elsewhere and the comments are either about expensive machines that I can't afford or else they seem to conclude that any blade grinder will work. I'm looking to take one step up from the cheapest blade ($15-20) to about $30 give or take and I'm looking for guidance within this very narrow price range. I'm planning to use a French Press. This is all new to me. Thank you.
  16. My only experience with grinders was the Krupps or Braun blade grinder my parents had. I remember that I could never, ever clean all the coffee out and I'm pretty sure it always smelled like rancid coffee. That's why I thought it was worth spending some more to be able to clean it. Thank you for confirming that impression.
  17. Same thing here. At least at the store without quarter thingies, the places with quarters people are more likely but not always inclined to return them. This is an aspect of (American?) (NYCmetro?) human nature I cannot understand. The stores make it as easy as possible with the outlying corrals. There are numerous similar examples in the public arena. Long time ago I worked at Jones Beach during the summer. The #1 task at the beach was removing the endless quantities of garbage that people left behind. I went through the five stages of grief: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. I used to be disgusted. Now I try to be amused.
  18. Manhattan Clam Chowder Hot and Sour I've probably never had better'n canned Progresso and mediocre-to-middling Chinese take-out versions of these two and it will probably be revelatory if I ever do, now that I'm becoming more cognizant of differences in the quality of ingredients and in the taste of things. But that's probably true of 99% of everything I've ever eaten.
  19. Plop plop fizz fizz, oh what a relief it is Two is twice as many as one
  20. Yes and yes! Didn't Goodman's also have a comparably catchy slogan? I, er, resemble the name Goodman's so I should know (just googled and came up blank.) I'm pretty sure they're still (or again) running variations on "higher authority." Higher Authority I learned something new! You don't have to be Jewish to love Levy's You don't have to be Jewish to love Levy's I wish I were an Oscar Mayer Wiener.,....
  21. I want to purchase a coffee grinder and and my initial intention was to buy the cheapest possible. However, after reading numerous reviews on Amazon I decided that it was worth the extra 10 dollars or so for the KitchenAid BCG100ER Blade Coffee Grinder. (I figured out how to do the egullet -> Amazon link! ) The KitchenAid gets almost unanimous rave reviews and most importantly the bowl and blade are remvoveable for cleaning, unlike the cheaper blade grinders. But there are also a few other units at the same price and my conundrum is which one would be best. There's the Cuisinart DCG-12BC Grind Central Coffee Grinder which also has removeable bowl and blade. But it's gotten only one review, although it is a rave review that says this unit surpasses the KitchenAid. Then there are also two burr grinders for the same price that get decidedly mixed reviews. My thought is that its better to buy a better-quality blade grinder than a low-end burr grinder, but I'm not sure. DeLonghi DCG4T Deluxe Burr Coffee Grinder with Timer Black & Decker CBM7B SmartGrind Deluxe Coffee Bean Burr Mill I'm intending to be grinding for French Press coffee, but may want to use other methods. Any advice or tales of experience with these machines would be appreciated. Thank you!
