The recipe I use for our Home-style Gyros uses thinly sliced strips of flank steak (marinated for an hour at room temperature in dry red wine, olive oil, garlic, dried oregano, salt and pepper) that are pan fried in hot butter until browned on all sides.

I consider myself the normal one. It is my husband and son who are weird. When eating a plate of food, I will eat some of each item throughout, but they eat only one item at a time, such as green beans first, potato second and finally the meat, no mixing or tasting the other items. So weird!

Help! I've lost my cooking mojo and I want it back!
robirdstx replied to a topic in Food Traditions & Culture
Yes. A couple of weeks ago, I felt like I was starting to repeat myself in the kitchen and was quickly losing interest, but I still needed to feed my husband, so I thought I might experiment with doing each week on a different cuisine. This past week dinners were mostly Italian American, which my husband loves. And now after watching Chef’s Table BBQ and the Taco Chronicles on Netflix, I am back to enjoying cooking our typical Southwest/Tex-Mex dinners. Pork Butt currently in the Instant Pot for Carnitas and Green Chile Rice cooking away in the Rice Cooker.- 114 replies

We have two of these bell crocks. As one gets low, the other gets filled, so the empty can go in the dishwasher. Our house temp stays more in mid-70’s range and these crocks allow the butter to stay fresh for several days without melting into a puddle.

Or you could use the top/tray of your current dish to hold the knife while you are using the butter. When ready to put the butter away, put the knife with the dirty dishes and get a clean one next time you use the butter. That is what we do. We kept running out of knives before we needed to run the dishwasher, so I just bought more knives! 😁

The Cat Who books center on the life of former newspaper reporter, James Qwilleran, and his two Siamese cats, Koko and Yum Yum, in the fictitious small town of Pickax located in Moose County "400 miles north of everywhere." (from Wikipedia) And to keep on topic. Food and other grocery items are also in good supply here. I, too, am now trying to use more of the items in our full freezer and pantry.
