  1. THe dish you describe (blue, walnuts, bourbon) was also offered to me when i went to the montreal outlet on monday evening. but of course i opted for the roast beast, which was fine.
  2. so wait a minute here. is it a food crime? akin to eating the roquefort before the brie de meaux? akin to using the napkin as a bib? akin to ... blah blah blah.
  3. and if breaking dry pasta is a food crime, why is it so? thanks, joey
  4. oh for chrissakes, its GARLIC CLOVES!!! AAARRRGH!
  5. If you get up to labrador, i can't recommend any good restaurants, mainly because there arent any, but my aunt shirley makes an incredible smoke salmon and char jerky... id make a special trip there just for that. oh yeah, and in st. john's, be sure to pick up some turtle cheesecake icecream at moomoos on kings road, just below rawlins cross. most decadent ice cream i have ever eaten. i was passing through st johns on my way to goose bay once. i had a one hour stop over in st johns so i took a taxi from the airport to moomoos and got some ice cream, and brought it home with me in my carry on, next flight. worth it! be sure to check it out.
  6. Oh Im dying. This is da bomb! Its almost as nice as Lychee's menu last summer, Square of Lamb, and Veal Chop of Milk, Soft of Grape, The Pan of Dough of inspiraton according to my humor, etc etc etc. I love stuff like this.
  7. is cocagne gonna serve lunches, too?
  8. I second malcolm here. A visit to Toronto is incomplete without my street vendor hot dog. It's like a visit to Montreal, for my dad, is incomplete without a smoked meat sandwich from Schwartz.
  9. and in montreal we cant get no hotdogs, and everyone complains about it. i want hotdogs!
  10. reverendtmac, your purity reference makes me think of my great grandma suzie. she always had purity peppermints! thanks for the nostalgia! purity makes all kinds of stuff, eversweet margerine (this is what i grew up knowing as BUTTER), purity syrups for sweet drinks, instead of koolaid, hard-tak for fish and bruise, purity crackers... ha! good stuff, kind of.
  11. dk, i can think of worse places to get breakfast. place milton anyone? ill stay home for my eggs and coffee, thank you very much. perhaps ill try beauty's soon. as for N.D.G. i think breakfast is No Damn Good over there, tried benedicts, and st viatueur. while acceptable, nothing great.
  12. In Kuujjuaq (I lived there for a few years), there is what they call a community freezer. It is a program set up to keep the hunting and sharing tradition alive. The community pays hunters to go out and bring back meats, which they just put in a big freezer room. The meat that is gathered can then be taken at leisure by the Inuit of the community. (I believe it is "illegal" for "non-Inuit" to take meats). The butchering is not what we would consider professional, in the least. Also the storage conditions are quite different from our standards here in the south. Howver, you can get some great stuff there. Same thing for fish. I have pictures, but dont know how to post. anyone have any clues how i could do this? So, I know its not a restaurant, and I know its not Montreal, but if you can get yourself to Kuujjuaq on First Air (got an extra $1800 to throw around?), and you can make friends with someone who can get meats... there you go! joey
  13. i love this internet chat forum arguing! you guys are hilarious!
  14. what kind of drugs are we talking about here?
  15. cinghiale, you can get a great poutine at au pied du cochon, on duluth and st. hubert thereabouts. its open on sunday nights. grab a seat at the bar, too. you get to watch the cooks right in front of you. bon appetit! (EDIT): emphasis on how good the poutine is at Au Pied du Cochon.
  16. wow, man. just go if you like it and dont if you dont. didnt your mothers ever tell you to not say anything unless you have something nice to say? no need to slander and bitch and complain. constructive criticism is cool, though! this is classic internet chat forum stuff. the stuff dreams are made of!
  17. wow the gullet is getting fun!
  18. hear hear. i was at anise on my anniversary, too. the folks in the kitchen knew it was our anniversary (we mentioned it when we reserved) and they wrote "happy anniversary" on our dessert plates in chocolate. cute. thanks for the great review... makes me want to go back soon! if only i had another 300 dollars to throw down.

  20. HAHAHA!!! Gift Steaks dot com. HA! thanks chopper, i needed a good laugh!
  21. yoshi is open now, i walked past last night and the curtains are down.
  22. ID, I like getting my freaky on at Mile End Bar. It's where it's at, for brews and for beats, too.
  23. there is also YOSHI sushi, which will be in that space between the Med and Buena Notte, where BAILA was before...
  24. a few precisions on the truffle menu which i ate last night: the predessert was not in truffle oil. it was a fruit salad crumble, topped with coconut whipped cream. pineapple, mango, pommegrenade. the dessert number one was indeed the olive oil financier, but the marmalade was not truffled. this plate was one of big contrasts. quite a bitter marmalade, and a sweet cake. warm and cold; cake and ice cream. delicious. and i like id's description of the cheese course: truffle parmesan fondue. my friend and i ate this one without saying a word. words are not necessary sometimes, they get in the way. my favorite dishes were the "fake" ravioli, which was very playful. the salsify and truffle, playful again; i soaked up every bit of truffle butter i could with my bread.
  25. what are the dates for the truffles? i knew it was coming up, and i was thinking it would be good to get a dose of truffles in before the christmas season.
