rosalie has a beautiful and super comfy upstairs lounge-ish place. with a fire place, and everything. however, i am not certain if you can eat a sit down meal up there. but it's definitely where it's at.

so, i was looking at my shiny new book, paysages gourmands de france, and noticed a part on fleur de sel (sel de guérande). i got an idea of how they harvest the salt, but i noticed that the harvest fields were not covered... and i thought to myself, man the harvesters must get PISSED OFF big time when it rains. how is this dealt with...?

i believe there might in fact be another st. viateur... i remember seeing two addresses on the bag i bought from them. and i know that there is a st. viateur bagel shop slash breakfast café on monkland near oxford, approx. same quality bagels available there, too. joe

jesus, guys. once, my mother told my sister that my dad was concerned about her swearing. he said it didnt become her. my sister replied (to my mom), "it doesnt fucking become anyone, but everyone fucking does it."

oooh, an honorable mention. that totally wins the war.

well, I DO eat quaker oats from time to time. hee hee. EDIT: and the qualm i had with the service was not with the waitress's uniform. it was her lack of knowledge, confidence, and know how. she could dress the same way and give me great service, i'd be just as happy as if she dressed like an amish, so long as the service is good.

denis is wicked. and to see dave going around to the tables was good to see, too. xuan is right on. and marc wins the war, too. my friend said that the blouse was unbuttoned "down below the place where they normally separate" and to tell the god's honest truth, i didnt notice either. whenever the waitresses walked in the kitchen at mediterraneo, though, i had to put down my knife, or avert my eyes, or else say bye bye to a finger.

just wanted to drop a note to say that i ate at rosalie on friday. after spending a few months working at the place, i decided to go try out the place myself. me and a friend of mine dropped in without a reservation around 6pm, and we were seated no problem. what we ordered: bowl of olives frisée lardons salad, pork tenderloin (me) salad with chevres, tendron de veau (friend) warm chocolate cake (one for the two of us) a glass of wine each. well, my friend claims it was the best meal she's ever eaten. and of course, it is not hard to believe! we had a great meal, my salad was outstanding, with some wonderful mushrooms and so on. the pork tenderloin was of the highest quality. very tasty sauce, and good accompanying apples and cauliflower. i like the way the pork is done now, more than the way it was done when i was working there (cauliflower lyonnaise) i think it looks better and probably tastes better now, too. my friend was pleased with the salad, and was just in heaven with the tendron... so tender! as lesely said in her review, the veal "tender" is so tender, you can pull it apart with a fork. and the sauce was marvellously rich. the chocolate cake... it had us both floored, and my friend claimed it got better with each bite. small qualm: service. perhaps our waitress was brand new on the job or something (i hadnt seen her before, but i've been away from rosalie for over a month now, too). perhaps it was the first job she had in a restaurant. she was extremely hesitant in everything she did, lacked confidence and knowledge... but she was pleasant enough. my friend leaned over to me later on and said, "someone tell her that her shirt is falling off!" later my friend said that she had never seen waitresses with shirts buttoned that low... and proceeded to say that you would never see that in ottawa (where she lives now). the ottawa comment is not hard to believe at all ( i had to get a jab at ottawa in there somewhere ) a visit to the kitchen to see the wonderful men who cooked our food was pleasant. nice to see those guys again, too. kind of miss them now... but im sure i will drop by again sometime within the not too distant future to get a late bite to eat and get out for a brew with the old gang. thanks to everyone at rosalie for the wonderful evening, and the equally wonderful food. ribojoe

when i worked with thibert at ITHQ during last years highlights festival, he used "tabac de cuisine." i do believe it was dried mushrooms powdered. the dish was queues de langoustines with jus de pesil and celerirave enrobé de tabac de cuisine.

maggie, yeah, the staff is still quite crabby. last time i was there, though, i was served by a dude with a shaved head, and i said, Nice haircut (because i have my head shaved too) and he smiled. it was kind of wierd, and i felt all dirty... really, though... they can be quite cranky...

how much danger is there if i go to sleep with my gas on, filling the house, never mind the explosions and all that, but will i fall peacefully to permanent sleep? or will i just wake up with a headache? or what, etc.
-
well, things are all being taken care of... i got my new range (without electric pilot...) and they are going to repair the gas plumbing too.
-
yeah, but they blew up anyway
-
i just put two eggs in a bowl and then in the microwave, thinking they would be poached in a minute and a half... but then after i heard the big explosion, i looked in the microwave, and the bowl i had put them in was empty and the microwave was totally covered in egg.

YAY!!! I found a place on parc avenue which serves milanesa! casa gaucho, it is called. i'll go try it out, and report back sometime in the near future... im so pleased. -
the gas man was here, and all is taken care of. i just cant use my oven until the landlord replaces the gas hose... i got a warning, and the gas company will visit again in two weeks or so. but as for the pilot light, it needed a cleaning. the gas man also told me it is not a huge deal if it goes out and leaks gas for a few hours. they infact put odor in the gas so that we can detect it at all...
-
F*ck that, I'm calling the repairman tonight, and going to sleep at my inlaw's house, a ten minute walk away! thanks for the serious heads up, folks... btw, i went to check the pilot again a few minutes ago, and sure as heck, it went out again... and the landlord wants nothing to do with it... looks like i might have myself a fun little adventure in the next few days, trying to deal with this... as for it being blown out, i don't see anything in the environment which could cause it to go out. there is nothing that would cause an air current or anything like that. you're right, the windows are all closed in this exceptionally cold winter we're having this year. i gotta keep the stove on just to keep me warm (just kidding) joey (hey wow, this is my 69th post

thanks... ill go see my landlord right away. not sure what the laws are for canada (particularly quebec and MONTREAL, where i live, but we'll see). joey

so what you're telling me is that gas stoves always have a precaution that re-lights the pilot... ? it is nigh impossible for a modern, brand new gas stove to lose its pilot...?
