  3. which restaurants stock pile bottled water, dry goods, candles, blankets, and batteries? which restaurants have bomb shelters?
  4. I had an outstanding meal at Le CC+P last night. Keeping in mind, I am an employee there, but it was quite the experience to go and eat the food that I make on a daily basis. Tasting a sauce at the stove in the kitchen over and over again in a night versus sitting in the dining room with the ambiance, the lighting, the music, the waiters, the wine... a completely different feel to it. While I was well acquainted with all the flavors and dishes that came to the table, it was all just distantly familiar, as eating it at the table in those ultra comfortable seats and the unbeatable atmosphere (the room was jam packed full) made it a whole new experience. I know the food of the kitchen, but not like i knew it last night. I understand what Chef meant when he said "it's important that you come to eat." We were treated like royalty, but it was clear to me watching the outstanding wait staff work the room, that they treat everyone like royalty there. Phillippe kept our glasses topped, sometimes several at a time, and the pairings were outstanding. Particulary the Straw Wine and the Gnocchi dish and the Kobe and Solaia. Hurray! Thanks to all the staff at the Club for their outstanding work, eating there last night just gave me so much more confidence in the work we do, I understand why it is a destination restaurant. I don't think I've ever had such a solid meal like I did last night. This is a restaurant that knows exactly what it is doing and what it wants to be, and clearly, with a full dining room every night, the clients know that very well. I don't think I need to say it, but if you haven't been yet, get down there and eat some good food. You won't be disappointed.
  5. be careful you don't spell it as "poontang" too
  6. expensive ones at that place on maisonneuve and drummond
  7. i saw a sign outside PRONTO GASTRONOMIA on sherbrooke and prince albert that said "Les Truffes Blanches D'Italie Sont Arrives!"
  8. last year the restaurant where i was working at was buying them off serge...
  9. So there is a bunch of Americans who come to a St. John's restaurant, and they see "Cod tongues" on the menu. One of them gets the waitress and asks, "excuse me, what is this 'Cod tongue'?" The waitress says "Well, you know the cod...?" (he nods) "... Well, that's their tongue."
  10. It's "O! Very Wise One, Supreme Overseer of Faubourg Phad Thai (medium spicy for here, just water thanks)" to you, buddy.
  11. christ, the renovation was a long long time ago. looks like you should check your information for updates more often, harrison. they also have like the worlds largest dollarama next to it.
  12. if that's the case, it must have closed really really recently, as i was there on sunday for an excellent shrimp pad thai. don't go to the restaurant across the street. the waiter there is absolutely insane. and i mean that seriously. anyway, the food is better in the faubourg.
  13. I saw a new place on my way home from work this evening. Ariel, in the old location of Les Caprices de Nicolas. Anyone know when it opened? Or eaten there? What's the word?
  14. tell him to go to kuujjuaq and ask for some igunak.
  15. casa greque, baby. prince arthur street. byo and terrasse, all in one. you even get peruvian pan-flute bands from time to time.
  16. it is also a traditional Labradorian treat. my ancestors have been making iron toast for centuries, always on cotton setting. i think i know the fish you're talking about, francois, but i can't remember the name in english. I think some of them flew all the way up to goose bay once. yeah, snowshoe up hill 30 miles all the way up to sea level to get to the st. lawrence.
  17. I think Johnny Depp did that in Benny and Joon. but he was making grilled cheese sandwiches.
  18. geez, a lot happens when you're out doing a service! what just happened?
  19. i figured it is time to start this thread about the service part of the restaurant industry. where did you have great service in montreal, or in eastern canada? i'll start by saying that the waitstaff at Europea has always been pleasant, confident, and competent each time I've been there. keep this thread in mind when you get great service...
  20. im glad to see that others also feel that beauty's is overrated. it's decent bacon and eggs, but give me a break, coffee is not included, and 2.50 for syrup? sheesh. overrated greasy spoon, for sure.
  21. oh god, not the avenue. you wait in line for attitude from teh wait staff and over priced eggs. go to style a few blocks further east. DO NOT go the avenue. Reservoir's weekend breakfasts win the war on drugs.
  22. La Paryse makes their poutine with grated cheese. While it is good, it's not poutine if it doesn't have the curds on it. Certainly, though, La Paryse has the best burger in town, hands down. no doubt about that. Everyone goes to La Banquise for poutine. It's on Rachel near St. Hubert or Christophe Colomb or something like that.
  23. ... and besides all that, a fat sandwich wins the war on drugs.
