Either I had one of these, or my mother-in-law did.

I'm kinda ashamed. But not really. Captain D's fish and shrimp dinner. It was, in point of fact, not half bad.

Chicken spaghetti. Actually chicken mac, as I had elbow gf mac but no GF spaghetti. Simple. Kinda bland, but comforting. I would have thrown in some peas and carrots, but Child A didn't want them. Quinoa pasta isn't bad at all.

Look in recipe gullet for "Jail Slaw." My go-to for a barbecue side dish.

Exactly what I was going to suggest. Almost an apple-ish taste? Shred it; it makes great slaw.

Even if I didn't make it, I've found a gluten-free sandwich-style white bread that's reasonably good. It's Rudi's, and I picked it up in the freezer case at Kroger. Dang near five bucks a loaf, but when you want tuna salad on toast, like I did for lunch today, it serves well enough. I can see it functioning for BLT's this summer.

Actually, you can. I have been making up dinners (foil containers from Dollar Tree), bagging them, and delivering once or twice a week to an elderly lady with no family who goes to my church. I just call her, tell her I'm leaving them on the porch, put them down, ring the bell and go. Since the foil containers are disposable, no worries about getting dishes back to me. Keeps leftovers from mouldering in the fridge, too.

@SLB, I am so very sorry for your losses. We are only very lightly touched by the virus here in Arkansas; so far, I have lost only one acquaintance, to whom I was not very close. Re: freezer meals. Schwans is good, but some things are a little more highly spiced than some elderly might like. You might check and see if there are any "mom and pop" places nearby that specialize in frozen meals; we have one here, and I patronize it sometimes. They do both plates and entree and/or side-sized dishes for four or eight. Not sure how far away you are from this relative. If you're close, you might make some freezer meals yourself to deliver. I do that frequently with leftovers.

@heidih -- gorgeous!

If memory serves, their heritage hams are cured longer. So yes, they might well be more proscuitto-like.

I ventured forth to Sam's today, as I was down to a single protein shake and those accompany breakfast every morning. Produce and meat seemed well stocked, though they did have limits on meat. I looked and they had flour and sugar, and appeared to have most canned foods. There were paper towels but no TP; fortunately, I'm still well stocked from the giant pack I bought there about the time all this started in early March. No wipes, no Lysol spray. When I picked up my Kroger order on Saturday, I drove past the front of the store, thinking I might dash in and pick up two or three things I failed to order. Nope. I don't think there were a dozen parking places in the lot, and fewer than 20 percent of the people I saw going in and out were wearing masks. Really, people? Decided there was nothing else I needed that badly. Not food, but today I went to Lowe's to pick up hydrangeas, because I wanted to plant hydrangeas in one of my back yard flower beds. Lowe's was covered up -- but at least well more than half the folks in there were wearing masks. Our governor is talking about limited reopening May 4. Not exactly sure what "limited" is going to mean. We have just over 2,000 cases in the entire state, and more than 500 of those are in the prison system. Our new case count is dropping. I'm not giving up my mask anytime soon, though.

Happy birthday, @TicTac! Superb birthday dinner, if you did have to do it yourself. I've got to shake myself out of this cooking rut. If it has not been pre-packaged junk food in the past week, I haven't eaten it. I did at least pick up a rotissiere chicken today, so that'll be tonight with...something.

Never thought about eating carnivores, though, yes, I've eaten pig, both domestic and wild. Wild hog has a very gamy taste I don't care for. I've also eaten bear, which I assuredly did NOT like -- very gamy, and stringy. Have no problem with carnivorous, or fishivorous, fish. There are several wild critters I've tasted and don't much like, among them coon and possum. I like squirrel, which is really just a cute rat with a fluffy tail. Love elk and buffalo. Have enjoyed every game bird I've tried, though pheasant tends to be a little dry. Do not care for reptilian critters -- have eaten alligator, turtle, snake, and none of them did much for me. I do love a good pair of frog legs, though.

Thank you! And wow, that's a superb site. I've bookmarked it and plan to spend several hours on it.

If you are a fan of country ham, they are among the best there is. If you are not, you may not care for it. It is a very salty ham with a strong taste. Haven't looked at the sale, as I am pretty well stocked up, but I find their breakfast slices to be my best bang for the buck.

Sorry. Not eating Black Beauty or Man o'War or Secretariat, et. al. Anyone who wishes to is welcome to my share. On the other hand, will happily eat either Bambi, Bugs or Donald.

At first glance, I thought that flatbread had caramelized banana slices on it, and I was reading eagerly to find out what the cheese beneath them was. Would you share your recipe for Toulouse sausage? It's hard to find around here, and I do love it.

I have never been able to make an omelet worth a flip. So I make frittatas instead.

I confess to being a fan of crunchy tacos. I guess I like the texture contrast.

Somewhat amazed I just placed a Kroger order tonight and got a pickup slot for noon-1 p.m. tomorrow. They had everything I wanted except Lysol spray and rubbing alcohol. Just on a whim, I checked, and they appeared well stocked on flour, rice and dry beans, things that have been in short supply (I didn't need any, but was curious). Made up lunches for the soup kitchen this afternoon, and will go hand them out in the morning. We've gone to sack lunches vs. a sit-down meal for the duration of the virus. Not in a cooking notion tonight. Maybe tomorrow. Maybe not. We shall see how long the potato chips hold out.

Whoa! FIVE fries? Glad to see you getting your appetite back!

Stilly trying to support local restaurants, so we ordered out from a poke place. Unfortunately not terribly good poke.

Go to New Orleans, and a "debris po'boy" is on most menus. Essentially, shredded pot roast in jus or brown gravy.

I have a side-cut, smooth-edge that's branded Cooks Choice. Don't remember where I got it. Works well. I only have to go around once.
