  1. I could just keep on responding with "yummm". I'm blown away by all the wonderful cakes and confections and stuff. Want to make it all.
  2. Not too much different from cakes, but just to fill out the list...coffee cakes and muffins.
  3. That pancake fairly jumps off the screen with supreme deliciousness.
  4. Curls, Deensie bat, Kim, PanaCan...and going back...it all looks so good. I'm going to go for the corn popsicles next, probably with blueberries because a) I have no blackberries and b) neither blueberries nor blackberries are intense so I hope that one is somewhat interchangeable with the other.
  5. Happy Anniversary to you both and many more! I don't know the equivalent in Spanish of "doo doo doo doo" but along comes your meatloaf recipe. Haven't made a meatloaf in more years than I can recall and have been thinking about it on and off for two months now. Now we will have meatloaf this week. Thanks. Am loving the blog, sir and madame.
  6. The kitchen cabinets which were in the farmhouse when we moved in are now in the cellar holding a thousand disparate items, from laundry soap and Javex to emergency supplies and shoe polish and my knitting needles, massive etc here. Ed's favorite department store is our local Habitat for Humanity/Restore and he has picked up two additional sets of cabinets for peanuts, one for his part of the studio in the Drive Shed and the other in the Drive Shed proper for storage of who knows what.
  7. Just able to get online today. Wonderful blog so far. What I expected it to be...full of interesting information. Thanks. EatNopales.
  8. Hooray for EatNopales!!! And good for me to guess it on the first photo!
  9. Ended up in agony for more than 24 hours after working with Poblanos without gloves. I've worked sans gloves many times before with no reaction. Something was obviously different either about me or this batch of Poblanos. If you get into trouble this way, Google 'hand pain from hot peppers', etc and you'll find a lot of information and different substances to put on your hands which work for some....AND NOT OTHERS. I'm glad that vinegar worked for Southwell, but it did little for me. Nor did milk, cheese, alcohol, etc, etc, and etc. What helped was two stiff drinks, and a sleeping pill. And time, mostly just time. ps. Oh, forgot to add: NEVER AGAIN WITHOUT GLOVES. What on earth do all those cooks do where there aren't gloves to use????
  10. I've used bulk store basically unnamed cocoa powder and not had any gritty problems with it. I think it was dutch process, but not certain. Could it be some other ingredient in the recipe? I've use basically DL's recipe for Aztec 'Hot' Chocolate but with a cornstarch base.
  11. I've had it downloaded for just over 24 hours now with ostensibly no problems.
  12. What a slew of posts, all interesting. I love, love, love Heidi's Turkish coffee grinder. Lovely. And Chris, if you ever get near me or I to you, you can have my collapsible pan for sure. Hmmm.... Seriously, I have dog friends from both DE and NJ who are coming this weekend. Either set could take it back and mail it for me in the States if I packed it. If you would like this, please PM me your actual address. And Andie, you never fail us!
  13. Thank you teonzo for alerting us all to this book. I've downloaded the first two sections and will work at it bit by bit until I have it all. Thanks.
  14. Thanks for the good wishes. I never made the cake...made the old tried and true Double Chocolate Mousse Bombe from One Cake, One Hundred Desserts with five kinds of chocolate. Delectable. Maybe the 'Chocolate Banded Ice Cream Cake' next year.
  15. Thank you Andie. First laugh of the day watching that video!!
  16. Oh my, this sounds good. Candied chiles. Of course, we are terribly limited as to what we can purchase fresh in my area of the far frozen north. The Jalapenos which we can buy are often quite mild so I could keep an eye out. I am just about to churn another batch of my version of DL's Hot Aztec Chocolate as soon as I get off the computer. The last batch of ice cream for the Dog Weekend coming up on Thursday. Mark Bittman has a recipe for Chocolate Tofu Puddingand I've used ground Ancho in that.
  17. I have been using Andie's recipe for about a year now, and it's a house staple ...except for the fresh tomatillo part. Poblanos, which we can finally get from a local store, and tomatillos...either from NJ, Toronto or canned. Plus the other ingredients of course.
  18. Gotcha. We cannot get Hatch chiles here except in cans (phooey). No wait, we can't get it in cans either...those must be brought back from the States. Such purity is impossible. Ah well...
  19. Wonderful. I envy you. And I can't wait to read what delicious dishes you make with them.
  20. Exquisite. I am so in awe of your rose. And your very first.

    Lunch! (2003-2012)

Well if you happen to be in my neighborhood anytime soon, stop by and share some pancake! My sorrowful point might be that where I live, you can't get food like that. No way, no how. Never. Lucky you. However, with my new-born obsession with cooking, and more to the point, cooking Mexican and other Hispanic/Latino/etc dishes, at some point I will no doubt make some of those dishes. Still working on just the simple ones.
  22. Just reread the topic. Jump ahead one year and one month. This is a truly puffball rich summer. So much rain. We have found and given away a number of puffballs in the last few days. Beauties all. Lazy as I am and overwhelmed by other stuff, I decided to just slice and roast the puffball in olive oil and herbs and then freeze it. We fried and froze the one from the last post in 2010. Not a good idea, the slicing and roasting. As I attempted to fold in the olive oil, I ended up with a bowl of crumbles basically. Here's a before and after roasting photo. Bowl is 5 /34 " X 16 " across...BIG bowl. Soup, egg foo yung, enchilada stuffing (along with meat, peppers and other bits)and it will be gone.
  23. C'mon Andie. Go for it. Get it, try it and report back. Personally, I loathe the texture of hard-boiled eggs, but DH loves them so I make them for him (and the pups).
