  6. Looking forward to reading about your travels (and food).
  7. I don't use the seal button? Sorry for the dumb question. I've only used it once and that was to seal chicken thighs in a marinade.
  8. That sounds soooo good!
  9. Someone wanted to be helpful so the baugette i wanted for tomorrow was purchased today. @rotutsso my goal was to vacuum seal it in my new spiffy chamber vacuum sealer and stick it in the freezer until tomorrow. I am following @Kerry Beal's suggestion and they are in the freezer now. Since said person bought two baugettes, I want to seal the second. Try as i might, i can't find anything to tell me what buttons to push. Kerry, can you please advise?
  10. I tried vacuum sealing a baguette last night. It did not go well. Can someone please tell me how to do this without totally squishing the bread?

    Panettone

I was at Costco today and saw this. Seeing as they were minis and came in various flavours, I bought one. For the price, I don't expect them to be top-notch ones, but at least I'll get an idea of what they are like. Hopefully, I'll like them better than my recent try for the first time in my life pop-tarts. Nah, nothing could possibly be as bad as those pop-tarts.
  14. Smart move.
  15. John came home the other day with 2 packages of pop tarts, s'mores and strawberry with icing. Tried a s'mores and couldn't finish it. Neither one of us could. The rest went in the garbage. When we go to a regular grocery store, we usually buy groceries for the food bank. The strawberry ones will be part of the next lot. Turns out I haven't missed a thing.

I see Costco has started carrying it. A question that has often baffled me is why would anyone buy it 2 months before Christmas? Do you freeze it? If so, why not wait until a day or two before Christmas so it's reasonably fresh? Assuming it hasn't sat on a store shelf for weeks, that is.
  17. It's a good thing if you don't like canned gravy.

I use a serated vegetable peeler.
  22. I have the same model as @TdeV, the Zojirushi BB-PAC20. I have had it for probably 10 or so years. I use it a fair bit, mostly to mix and knead the dough which, when the dough cycle is complete, i will bake in a regular oven. If i want bread for stuffing say a chicken, i'll bake the loaf in the machine. That said, i will also make bread by hand. It depends on the mood I'm in. My first bread machine was a Panasonic which I bought in 1982. It was one of the first mass produced bread machines for home bread making. That one could only make 1 pound loaves but I loved that machine. @TdeV Did you ever try making the sourdough?
  23. Eh?
  24. The butter tarts are missing!
