  1. My mom has this cookbook! I remember reading the title as a kid and thinking it was going to be some awesome fairytale book or something, but turned out to be just boring recipes.
  2. I do love me some pepper Spent forever in may trying to find a small pepper mill with metal insides, even at the kitchen stores I went to, for some reason none of them had what I wanted. Ended up with a small peugeot that I've been very happy with. Except now I'm going through pepper like never before I've never seen the point of salt mills though, it's not like the salt is going to lose any of it's saltiness over time or anything....am I missing something?

    Asian Markets

I live near several ethnic markets and have fallen in love with them, even though I know I haven't taken advantage of them as near as much as I should. One thing though: I find that produce I buy from the ethnic markets or smaller stores doesn't last very long, which for me is an issue. So unless I have a use for something the same day or the next, or it's something I can't get elsewhere, I'll stick to the farmer's market for my produce. Of course as was mentioned, you can't get citrus fruits etc that are grown in Canada, but they seem to keep pretty well anyway, so it's less of an problem.

    Dinner! 2007

^ I am so making those. Maybe tomorrow; I'll need to go out and get some berries... For dinner I made falafels, which I'd never done before because I'm acared of frying things, but they (it? Whatever.) turned out awesome. Pita, tomato, cucumber, tahini. Mmmm And for lunch, inspired by Little Miss Foodie's & saucée's chowders, and the fact that I got the most amazingly sweet corn at the market this morning, I made chowder. Just potatoes and corn, but it really hit the spot.
  5. Oh man. I mean, I like butter and all, but...guhhhh. I'm not sure I could eat those.

    Dinner! 2007

Quiche I had spinach, cheddar cheese, and tomatoes to use up, and I'd just bought a dozen eggs, so I let my coworkers hound me into making piecrust for what turned out to be a pretty decent quiche. Took the picture right after it came out of the oven, which explains the poofiness. It settled down as it cooled a bit.
  7. Great thread I really enjoyed hearing about the classes and the seminars you organised.
  8. I'm gonna have to go with those saying they prefer a normal BLT. Nothing against eggs or cheese, but it just seems overkill.
  9. When I was little I thought at one point that girled cheese (grilled cheese) was for girls only

    Dinner! 2007

I was at a barbeque basically all afternoon today, so I wasn't prepared to eat an actual dinner, but my roommate was making soup and she opened the cupboard and there was peanut butter on there, and a lightbulb went on in my head. So I made peanut and celery soup (you know, like ants on a log...but liquid. And without the ants). The celery...wasn't really there, unfortunately. I was using up the last of a head that was just past the point of where I'd want to eat it raw, so I might try again with more celery/something else. Would celery seed or celeriac add more of that "celery" flavour? I've never used either. It was pretty decent tasting though. I added curry powder and cayenne pepper to it, and the peanut butter gives it a richness that means I think I'll be eating smaller size servings No pictures because it's not particularly photogenic.

You can get ground rosemary; I've seen it at the bulk store. It's powdery and green.
  12. Mmm, meringue. Everything looks so awesome. One question though: isn't a kilogram rather a lot of wild strawberries? Aren't they....really small? Excuse my ignorance
  13. I love the "creme brulee" idea...really tempted to try that some time. Especially since I know exactly where the closest loblaws is
  14. Hmm. I move around a lot, and I'm normally only cooking for one, so my spices are made to take up little space and travel well: The two empty ones have since been filled. The boxes (there are 2) are the watchmaker's canisters from lee valley, and the names are written on the bottom, in case I forget what's what There's also the handy side effect of forcing me to refill the ones I use pretty often, so they stay relatively fresh.

    Dinner! 2007

Hi everyone Sorry for the blurry pictures, my camera is out of batteries and I forgot to charge some On Saturday, we had a 1/2 can of coconut milk to use up, and I had gotten some nice cilantro and sugar snap peas at the market, so I made coconut saffron rice and shrimp and vegetables in a sort of jury-rigged coconut chili broth. With lots of cilantro, because I love it. Then yesterday after reading Domestic Goddess' post I got a hankering for something mexicanish, but I had no tortillas. Fear not! I just made some. They're a little shapeless, but tasty anyway Inside went beef with lots of cumin and some other stuff, tomatoes, more red peppers, garlic scapes because I had them, cheese and of course more cilantro.
