    Dinner 2014 (Part 5)

I blanched my basil, wouldn't that save it from turning brown?
  2. I think that's one of the prettiest turkeys I've ever seen.

    Dinner 2014 (Part 5)

Patrick, I've never had hen of the woods and I think I should I love 'shrooms. Kim, now I want chicken salad Huiray, you know I'm a sucker for any pasta and yours always looks so good. And that spinach is calling my name. So, my birthday generally lasts about 5 days and Dejah's pasta 3 ways has been haunting me every single day. I had to make a similar dish last night. I have a ton of basil in the garden so I thought I'd make some pesto. I've never made it before. I've had the kind from the grocery store and it was ok. But OMG. Homemade pesto WHERE have you been all my life???? I want to swim around in it. What a difference homemade makes. I need to look and see if it freezes well. If so....hello pesto all winter! Bad thing is, my husband didn't care for it. I think it's such a pretty color. Caprese salad Pasta three ways: Manila clams in white wine, pesto, and my meat sauce with a slice of sour dough I had such a good time cooking the manila clams. I loved watching them open

Thank you so much! We don't travel....sooooo I treat myself....what would I do without the internet?????? Yes, I ordered it online. I get it from www.markys.com . Here is a picture of the whole thing. Now that I think about it, I need to look up Hudson Valley and see if I can order from them direct.... It's on the plate with the toast points. When I was cutting the foie up these smaller pieces were left so I used them. The nice big ones are resting comfortably in my freezer
  6. I don't get out much. I've never seen a dish like that sticky rice. It doesn't fall apart when you dip it or do you place it on your plate and use a fork pouring the sauce over it?

Thank you EVERYONE so much for the birthday wishes. You guys are great Yeah.....I dunno why I didn't force him in to that chore....sigh..... Oh Zingerman's had a 6 flavor array that they sent! I've only tasted two so far--Michigan raspberry and vanilla. They also sent peanut butter, chocolate, mint chocolate and dulce de leche. Yeah, I'm pretty much in heaven

    Puntarelle

Looking at pictures on the internet, your puntarelle looks like what this blog describes. They agree with you that blanching would be the way to go......http://www.daveskitchen.com/recipes/puntarelle-chicory-from-paisley-farm/

    Dinner 2014 (Part 5)

'Twas my 40th birthday yesterday. I only cried a couple times lol. I decided I was going to treat myself to some of my favorite things to eat. Kumamoto oysters I swore I didn't want to have to cook/clean up, but I did it anyway. I'm sitting here looking at a sink full of dirty dishes, but it was worth it Cold smoked salmon, pimento cheese, caviar, oysters, shrimp and foie gras For dessert I ordered gelato from Zingerman's. I had never had gelato before. I liked it!
  11. Although a rice cooker is easy to use, it would be seen as very foreign to my Grandpa.
  12. Wine. Now you're talking my kind of drink
  13. Thanks, Jaymes, you've made my day I like knowing his freezer has some good stuff to eat in there.
  14. Venison chili Looks almost like the stew, but I swear it's chili
  15. I'm going to be worthless on that question too. My Grammy passed about a year and a half ago and after that Grandpa didn't eat very much at all. I think he's eating a bit bigger portions (or at least it sounds like it when he describes his meals to me) so I'm doing a bit bigger but still not the normal portion that most people would eat.
  16. I'd love to see a picture of the final dish
  17. Ohhhhhh those cookies....yum
  18. No wonder we haven't heard from Anna today!
  19. No, I don't have a tree, but if you can grow one down there, I'm sure I can up here......I wonder why no one does around here???? I must get busy and research.
  20. I don't know if I'm the norm, but I don't like to heat it in the microwave because mine gets sugar crystals. I fill up a bowl or my sink with hot water and put my honey container in there for a bit to get it runnier.
  21. *shrug* I just don't store it in there.
  22. I want a gosh dang watermelon peep. Right freaking now. *googling*
  23. Well, I've never had my fish sauce in there and I'm not dead yet I don't like my garden cukes cold.....but we eat the heck out of them so they don't last too long. I rarely buy them in the store.
  24. I never, ever, never, ever, never, never never put tomatoes in the fridge. Never. I don't care what anyone says, they taste funny if you do--funny as in ICKY. I don't put honey in the fridge because it makes it too hard. Let's see.....what else..... avocados onions zukes taters soy sauce fish sauce bread (if I can help it...but I do put it in sometimes) apples bananas I personally hate watermelon if it's cold That's all I can think of for now
  25. Venison stew which I stupidly forgot to put some zucchini in.
