  1. I've got Sharrow Bay, Holbeck Ghyll, Samling and because the photo's look so good and they've ditched the painful food descriptions I've booked L'enculme. And one question. On my way North to Keswick, does anyone have strong opinions whether Churchmouse Cheese shop is better than the Teebay Services cheese range? (can only stop at one).
  2. Hi Nathan, looks great but still no sign on Amazon UK. Am sure I was the first to ask for a signed copy on the Sous Vide thread, any resolution there?
  3. got a preference on which you enjoyed more?
  4. Was distinctly underwhelmed by the Pulenta La Flor, it tasted indistinguishable from the many Oz Cab Savs that are on the market here in the UK. But enjoyed this thunderous tipple last night. I beseech you to track a bottle of Benegas Libertad Malbec down.
  5. drank the Pulenta Cab Sab pictured above last night. It is now by far my favourite Cab Sav, what a find!
  6. Find myself in Moscow for next couple of weeks and surprised to find Suntory Whisky, Suntory Old Whisky & Nikka all Malt. As a neophyte to these Japanese brews anyone got any strong opinions?
  7. Had the Pulenta Gran Corte last night and excellent it was too. Puzzled as to why it needs a triple thickness bottle that weighs 1.2kg empty. At 15% ABV was very alcoholic and as I became more addled, I started trying to compare it to the Bressia Profoundo that I had last week. I think the Bressia was marginally ahead, can't quite tell you why.
  8. taken, nabbed and willfully abducted by these fantastic wines I returned like a crack whore to source early this morn. Bought three more I haven't tried. A Pulenta Cab Sav, a Bressia Syrah & a Pulenta La Flor Cab Sav too. They had sold out of the Bressia Profoundo, which was a real shame, that wine will stay with me a long time. Currently got a Pulenta Gran Corte 2006 soaking up the o2
  9. last time I went I had just read similar gush by Coren Junior giving the place 10/10. Those expectations quickly dissoloved like cake in rain. I know some people love the place, but count me out.
  10. To those of us in the UK, who are looking at schnaffling some Japan Whisky, Oddbins has a dicounted bottle of Suntory Yamazak 12 year old. Is this a good drop to start with? http://www.oddbins.com/products/productDetail.asp?productcode=77937
  11. I've thought about L'enculme but on reflection just couldn't justify going back there. Am at least going to head to the Samling, on David's advice. There are Booths in Kendal & Keswick, but any food outlets other than the Westmorland services & Churchmouse cheeses in Kirby Lonsdale I should be aware of?
  12. Is Soya oil used instead of EVOO?
  13. Oh dear! Enjoying this Don Tiburcio rather too much for a Monday night. Am mitigating its effect with surprisingly good array of Scottish cheeses.
  14. Updated opinions please? Got a week in the Lakes in a cottage in Keswick area soon. Thinking a Sunday Lunch at Sharrow Bay, anyone been on a Sunday? Then lunches at Gilpin Lodge & Holbeck Ghyll, thoughts? (prefer lunches) In between wandering up fell & slobbing about down boozer. I am also cooking so any specific Delis anywhere? Has Hipping Hall recrudesced?
  15. Has anyone ever successfully recreated Kewpie? (it gets more expense by the day in the UK)
  16. I seem to be the only one obsessing about Argentinian wine, on here! More wine Katie kindly recommended. The Don Tiburcio is breathing and I am wondering how it will compare to the strong fruit ripeness of the Clos de los Siete. Loved the Bressia Profoundo on a hot Saturday night (yes the English do have a fleeting summer). And even found myself searching for flights to Mendoza; Santiago in Chile is nearer and cheaper than B.A. but is it easy to cross into Argentina?
  17. had the Clos de los Siete 2006 whilst watching Argentina in the football world cup last night. I Really rated it, so have ordered bottles Don Triburcio and Juan Benegas (thanks Katie) which I await with some excitement. I see Bressia also do a Royale a sparkling wine, has anyone tried that?
  18. Edmund, am a long way from LA, I am in the North of England. I am fortunate to be just 40minutes away from one of the best (if not the best), independent wine shops in the UK. There's a 3rd room (the one displayed is all Fench) following on that is well stocked with the recommendations you've all kindly made. Katie thanks for that, am definitely on the hunt for the 2007 Pulenta XI Gran Cabernet Franc though google tells me theren't any in the UK. Has anyone had the Bodega Benegas Juan Benegas and how does that compare to the Don Tiburcio? .
  19. WOW, metaphorically kissed clenched finger tips over the Bressia Monteagrelo Malbec last night. What a fantastic bottle of wine! Thanks for pointing me in it's well deserved direction. Recently a mate bought a St Emilion Grand Cru for idiocy-inducing-large-cash that wasn't good enough to keep the pallete let alone the mind alive. For that underserved sum he could have bought a few bottles of this without the punch on the wallet and the epic buyers remorse. Any more recommendations please keep them coming. Katie did you get to keep the wines in the presentation box?
  20. I've been down the booze shop today too (if only egullet inspired costs were tax deductible) Couldn't find the Pinot Gris mentioned but did get a Sauv Blanc and a 2006 Clos de los Siete
  21. Apart from the Pinot Gris, any thoughts on good whites?
  22. You discuss chocolate tempering too?
  23. Did I just read the words.....ice cream? ....You mean cooking the egg custard at a correct temp below coagulation?
  24. Nathan, I am definitely in the market for the book, is there a website with previews anywhere or is there going to be? I've seen some video of your lair/kitchen what's the most exotic piece of equipment used?
