let's just say i like the sex pistols more than chinese food generally speaking. number 1 though? pu-leeze.
-
ummm, no? well, yeah! i mean, how else can you get that think sauciness that i suppose doesn't exist in lo mein (i don't remember the last time i've had it, so i'm probably thinking of something else). damn you people, you *know* i don't know anything about chinese food! why am i ever here?!?!?!?! i'm going back to the other thread to argue about Never Mind the Bullocks with Wilfrid.
-
Wilfrid, no corn starch?
-
oh jeez, here we go again. ok, how about this: i'm going to Los Dos Rancheros for 2 dollar tacos and chicken mole tomorrow night. you're all welcome to join me. there. dinner planned. now back to the discussion on Bid.

tommy liiiiike. thanks for the leg work yvonne!
-
hehe. thanks for the info. i'm very intrigued. i can't believe i've never heard of it. i'll probably mention it to mrs. tommy and she'll say something like "oh yeah, i've been there a bunch of times. it's very good."

steve was just kidding. it's just that he's not very funny. :wow:

is this a standard chinese place? i drove past and it's in a huge old house. doesn't look chinese at all. what's the story with the menu? how long has it been in ridgehood?
-
i was there once. it sucked. to be fair, i was not into wine as much back then, but i get the impression that CA well well represented. well, well, well represented.
-
cool. thanks. unfortunately, it just became so late that i can't stop there tonite. maybe i'll get there some other time. zagat's seems to like it. wilfrid must be wrong.

mirachu doesn't seem to be on any database other than rail paul's and wilfrid's!!!
-
and here i was packing up for a quick drink at marichu when wilfrid comes and blows that out of the water! i hope whatever place we choose for the 100+ dinner has a well soundproofed private room. i can imagine that things could get a bit loud.

now that you mention that, i remember talking to the sommelier at Babbo (NYC) about this. in fact, when he opened our bottle, i saw him scurry away. he came back and said that as soon as he opened it he could tell it was off and dared not present me with a taste. that's the way it should be done.

actually, my suggestion was more in the interest of collating what we already have, which doesn't seem like much. i don't recall even 2 people deciding on the same place yet. i'd hate to post a date and a place and be the only one who showed up. as with wilfrid, count me in for all three.

one of my favorite slices in NYC is at La Bellezza, a non-descript place with no tables on 49th btwn 3rd and lex. crispy crust. not too thick. not too thin. it's really quite good. i think they have another location in the 30's on the east side. Click here for their website, which may or may not be very exciting (i haven't seen it)

this seems like it's becoming a mess. maybe an organized approach is in order? it seems that we can't pick a date until we see who's interested. and it seems that we can't figure out who's interested until we get a price-point and restaurant. not to mention borough. perhaps if we put together a couple of informal lists, as a foundation for a decision. one could be people who'd be game for anything so long as it's not over say 40 bucks a head. another for people who wouldn't mind something like 60. and a third group of people who would enjoy something like a Bid experience. once we see where the interest lies, we can make a decision on which "type" of dinner to even attempt to plan first. at least we'll have a bit of focus then. then again, i'm a complete twit, so don't listen to me.

cafe matisse, nice job thereuare. i would recommend it as well (BYO). i would stay away from the Palms for two reasons: 1) personally, i think they suck. overpriced. amatuerish service. 2) more importantly, they are not a uniquely Jersey experience. i think liza lives in/spends time in NYC, and could probably get better any time.

i would love to know what/where pinxtos is and what basque wine and food is. yes, i'm ignorant. sounds like it might be cool though (pinxtos, not my ignorance).
-
i don't think i've ever heard of it. where it be?
-
ridgewood isn't far and has many restaurants including: latour - rosie thinks it's great, i thought it was pretty good (BYO) 28 oak - rosie thinks it's great, i think it's pretty good. (BYO) zarole - rosie thought it was not even ok, i think it's pretty good but pricey (BYO) additionally, little saigon in nutley for better vietnamese than you'll find in NYC. (BYO) rebecca's in edgewater which rosie loves and i thought was pretty good. it's generally accepted as outstanding (BYO)

well bloody hell just go to china 46, silly!

northern or southern bergen? it's quite big, even by car.

i was actually asking if he tried them after you, to make sure you weren't completely out of your tree. i don't think it's general practice in the US to have the sommelier taste the wine before the customer. however, i have had many verify my suspicions with either a whiff or a sip. i figured that after the second bottle yours would have started to confirm as well, and he quite possibly did with the boss-man.
