    Leftovers

a left over that i grew up with and grew up loving is macoroni and cheese. you can freeze the leftovers pretty much forever. when you're ready to eat them, put the chunk of frozen mac and cheese in a frying pan and fry them up! the cheese browns and crisps. the marcoroni takes on a completely unique texture. it's simply and incredible little treat. this is basically the only leftover that i look foward to.
  2. one thing that stands out in my mind about my last trip to GT was that i didn't even notice the water and wine glasses being filled. and we were a table of three in a corner booth. i have no idea how they made themselves so invisible. glad you enjoyed it. after all of the discussion here over the last 6 months, i'm keen on getting back as well.

    Leftovers

in the event that i actually do put left-overs in the fridge, i carefully seal them in zip lock bags or tupperware. about 2 weeks later, i carefully throw them in the garbage, sometimes with the fouled tupperware.
  4. quite reasonable. i remember one time (my only time) at l'express in NYC (an extremely middle-of-the-road french bistro type of place frequented by late 20-somethings on expense accounts). i had to send back a bottle of red, as it was clearly corked. this caused a fuss and apparently required the attention of 2 servers. they looked so very pained, so i felt the need to apologize to them (i'm not sure why, they just looked like they needed it). the waitress said to me "oh, that's ok, we'll just sell it [the clearly corked wine] by the glass at the bar." :sigh:
  5. indeed. i assume jimmy's has volumes on epidewhosiwhatsits. shall we say 6 pm tomorrow evening, to kick off our research?
  6. it's rarely fair nor prudent to assume *anything* when it comes to reading statistics or studies. anyone who has been involved with compiling statistics or studies would surely agree. statistics are like opinions, with numbers.
  7. i drink a bottle of wine at a time. these studies are somewhat absurd. if you have your one glass of red per day at the smokey pub, surely you're defeating the purpose.

    Wine Prices

bad merlot drinkers! bad *bad* merlot drinkers!
  9. i got the impression while talking to jhlurie and the perlows that sunday march 31st was being seriously considered for a NY dinner. i just want to make sure that everyone knows that this is easter.

    Bukhara Grill

i'm confused. is there still a "bukhara" on 48th street? if so, it's not related to the one on 58th? if not, is the new place as good as either the old bukhara or the new bukhara?

    Rao's

i think we'd all be curious to know how you got a table at Rao's.

    Bukhara Grill

ahhh! i thought that name sounded familiar. it's on 48th around 3rd or so? i've heard good things about it and have been meaning to try the lunch buffet.
  13. yes, the contrast in texture was the one thing i thought of while typing. giving it further thought, i think the greasiness of the fritos would play well off of the "clean" boiled flavor of the dog much better than the already greasy flavor of a fried or grilled. if this keeps up, i'll be having 3 frito dogs for lunch tomorrow.

    Bukhara Grill

i'm not sure i'd have the energy to present a coupon to save 2 dollars.
  15. you should seriously give it a try. although i was only about 14 years old when i thought it was really good, i still do think it's really good. i think it works better with boiled hot dogs, rather than grilled or fried. but i haven't put that much thought into that aspect.
  16. while wer're on fritos, i "invented" something called a "frito dog" whilst in high school. a hot dog with mustard and fritos on top. it's really quite satisfying.

    Pizza Stone

obviously i think people care about my pizza. that's probably not the case, but here goes! i made my second pizza today. this one was *much* better than the first. i took a lot of advice from all of the posts, and came up with a very good pizza. thin crispy crust. toppings that weren't overly watery. and a fine looking pie if i don't say so myself. this one, for sure, was just as good if not better than just about every place out there. thanks again for the tips!
  18. dude, i know exactly what you're talking about. we did it with pizza though. ummm, yeah.
  19. i grew up in the 'burbs, but i always assumed "tuna casserole" was a gabe kaplan invention.
  20. i used to love the Marathon bar from mars. apparently, it was taken off the shelves in 1981, which makes me feel very old. and, in my research to find the below picture, i found out that they had a marathon bar in the UK as well, but it was chocolate, caramel and peanuts, aka Snickers.

    Vong

vong is one of my favorite restaurants. it's just a lot of fun i think. the black plate special is very popular. it's 4 or 5 appetizers, all of which are pretty tasty. i can't imagine jean-georges has even seen the inside of the kitchen for years, however they still produce good food consistently.
  22. just to set the record straight ms. perlow, i've been eating thai and indian since your were in diapers. duck tongue, however, is relatively new for me.
  23. i can't get enough of these things. still hoping for the golden ticket. Wonka Bar
  24. that's it. you and me are goin' round and round. you will feel the pain that the garden state can inflict, hardcore.
  25. i ended up at the ubiquitous China 46 again last night. i only mention this because: 1) the owner, cecil, remembers my name as well as mrs. tommy's name, who wasn't even there (i've only eaten here 4 times) 2) we started with duch tongue. the interesting thing about duck tongue is: a) it's a tongue b) it has a bone running down the middle c) it doesn't taste like chicken as usual, cecil brought out a complimentary extra dish. the last time is was fish maw, this time it was that rice "pasta" that a few of us egulleteers had when we met there if i recall. the place rules. but don't tell anyone. our little secret.
